3^rd race – (3) Tapit Doux was a front-end winner at this level last time. (2) Keepmeinthe Moment won a starter allowance two races back and now drops in for a tag. (1) Loveherheart won a maiden special weight at Santa Anita last year, tried stakes racing, and now drops in for a tag for the first time. (5) Never Sway moves back to the main track where she broke her maiden for $50,000. Betting strategy: 3 to win, place. Exacta box: 1, 2, 3, 5.
6^th race – (9) Gillian Elizabeth has two wins from her last three starts in a $50,000 maiden claimer, a starter allowance, and a first-level allowance. (4) Sweet and Cheeky won her last two starts in a similar spot after a maiden breaker. (6) Founder’s Day also won her most recent race in a starter allowance. 10^th race – (2) Maeve of Connaught will make her American debut after a second and third in Ireland last year. 1^st race [Md 40000, 1 1/16 mi TURF] – (4) Floki’s Flight (B) was rank going into the first turn and went extremely wide. (1) Fazaro got his best speed figure last time when he moved back to the turf, stretched out, and then finished second. (2) Sebaray also ran his best race when he made his first start on the grass and rallied for third. (3) Billy Price will make his career debut for George Weaver whose barn has started to win races at this Saratoga meeting.
5^th race [Md Sp Wt, 1 1/16 mi TURF] – (6) Activist Investing (A) was sent off as the favorite in his debut but lost all chance when a bolting horse forced him to go almost to the outer rail in the first turn. (1) Coach Petro (A) had the lead and finished second in his first career start for Brad Cox well ahead of the rest of the field. (7) Wideright was rank in his first start for Bill Mott, bore out badly, and had to check. (5) Rarified Flair had difficult trips in his first two starts. Last time on the turf at the Spa he finished third after getting blocked heading into the stretch.
8^th race [Lake Placid (G2), 1 1/16 mi TURF] – (3) Eminent Victor (A) stumbled at the start of the Lake George (G3) at Saratoga and was most likely the best horse in the race when she finished second by a nose for Chad Brown. (1) With The Moonlight won the Saratoga Oaks (G3) just two weeks ago for Charlie Appleby following a second in the Belmont Oaks (G1). (4) Consumer Spending won her first two starts of the year in New York stakes and then was third in the Belmont Oaks. She is also from the Brown barn. (5) Dolce Zel is the yet another worthy contender for Chad as she was the winner of the Lake George while overcoming a troubled trip.

MEET THE BEAUTY - This thoroughbred coming off a sharp race in the last 30 days is a serious competitor in my book. Perez comes to saddle up after getting to know the filly in the last event. Strong return on investment for this jock and handler tandem. Dropped in class last race out, and keeps in that lower class level in this field. A good sign this equine is comfortable and ready to go. BE NAUGHTY WITH ME - The jockey and trainer combination have a favorable ROI when they combine forces. Filly is a few starts into a come back here. Should give a nice effort today. Look at this pattern of improvement. 26/48/52 are the last three speed figs. GOLDEN ISLE - Likes to go to the head of the pack and the fact that today is a shorter trip should help. This animal has increased her speed ratings in each of the last two races. That kind of progress is worth taking notice of. FOR EVER OURS - A racer coming back this promptly after a nice outing is a good signal. This filly has higher odds on the morning line than the other entrant from the stable of Barboza. Better watch out for this angle. Filly took a little vacation, but has been racing into shape.

MUGURUZA - When scrutinizing today's Equibase class figure, she will have to garner a better speed figure than in the last race to compete in this dirt sprint. BUNNYNOTBEAST - This filly hasn't had any in the money efforts in sprint contests in the last sixty days. This animal just hasn't looked sharp lately.

GUEST COMMENTARY: Hal - FOR EVER OURS - Posting a better speed rating each of her last couple of events. This filly is a prime candidate to win today.

Spendarella (11) has always been cut out to be an exceptional horse on the grass, being a daughter of Breeders’ Cup Mile winner Karakontie. She won the first three races of her career, one month apart in February, March and April of this year, the latter two stakes races in which she earned 104 and 102 Equibase speed figures, which are exceptional for a three year old filly that early in the year. In the first of the two stakes wins Spendarella led from start to finish beating 10 other horses in the Herecomesthebride Stakes then one month later she relaxed off the pace to draw off late in the Appalachian Stakes. Sent to England for the prestigious Coronation Stakes, Spendarella wasn’t disgraced one bit when second behind the strong four length winner, gamely holding second by a nose and earning a field high 112 figure. She’s been working very well since her return and jockey Tyler Gaffalione, who was aboard for the Appalachian, has the mount so we can expect a top effort good enough to win.

Txope (9) is the biggest threat to Spendarella based on her win when last seen (in June) winning the German One Thousand Guineas and earning a 111 Equibase speed figure right there with the 112 Spendarella earned in the Coronation Stakes. She’s now run 12 times, finishing first or second in eight of those, the last eight being stakes races as well. In training at Del Mar since the end of July, Txope (FR) has put in three consistent workouts on the Del Mar turf and appears to be handling it well. As such, she should be in a great position in the last quarter mile and has a big shot to add to her record in this year’s Del Mar Oaks.

In this full 14 horse field, with no also-eligibles, so barring any horses becoming sick all will run, I wouldn’t argue with cases to be made for many of the others, such as the one-two-three finishers of the San Clemente Stakes last month – Bellabel (2), Sixteen Arches (7) and Island of Love (3) or even the fourth place finisher in the race (beaten just a neck for third), Lady T (13). Cairo Memories (5) is also worth mentioning as she won the Providencia Stakes and Honeymoon Stakes back-to-back before a fifth place finish in the $1 million Belmont Oaks Invitational last month. Just the same, I think if this race was run 100 times, Spendarella or Txope would win about 66 times between them.
