This is a play on the SEATTLE MARINERS for our Friday Free Play. Seattle took the opener of this series with a 3-1 win last night with the only scoring coming in the first inning thanks to a three-run home run by Mitch Haniger. The Mariners are a game and a half behind Tampa Bay for the first Wild Card spot in the American League as they are in third place, two and a half games ahead of Baltimore. We are getting excellent value here as the Mariners come in as the underdog despite being in better recent form and not having a big disadvantage on the hill. Logan Gilbert has pitched well over his last two starts after getting smashed against the Yankees in back-to-back games. Seattle has lost five of his last six starts after starting 14-5 in his first 19 outings. Cleveland remains in first place in the American League Central as it is still four game ahead of the struggling Twins which have not lost six straight games. The Guardians have played well on the road as they are two games over .500 and are mostly favored here because of Shane Bieber taking the hill. He has been great over his last five starts with a 1.62 ERA and he faces a strong offense from the Mariners despite a recent lack of production. Seattle is 54-39 +15.4 units against right-handed starters this season. Here, we play on home teams when the money line is +125 to -125 after a game where they had four or less hits, with a bullpen whose WHIP is under 1.20 the last 10 games. Cleveland began a new era in 2022 (no longer the Indians, now the Guardians). Cleveland lost to the Cubs in the 2016 World Series (led 3-1, before losing the final three games) and followed with THREE more postseason appearances in the next four years (exception was in 2019 when the team won 93 games). However, Cleveland would go just 80-82 in 2021. Seattle finished second in the American League West in 2021 with a 90-72 record, just TWO games out of a wild-card berth. That extended Seattle's postseason drought to 20 years, as the Mariners last made the playoffs back in 2001. The Guardians and Mariners opened a four-game series in Seattle Thursday afternoon with BOTH teams squarely in the postseason 'picture.' Cleveland had won 12 of 16 games and at 66-56, owned a four-game lead in the AL Central over the Twins and White Sox. The Mariners were headed 'nowhere' with a 29-39 record through June 19 but then went 22-3 to close the first half to reach 51-42. The Mariners were only 16-15 since returning from the break but at 67-57, owned the AL's No. 3 wild card spot. They are just 1 1/2-games behind the No. 1 wild card team and 2 1/2-games ahead of the Orioles, who represent the 'last team out" (No. 4 among wild card contenders).
Cleveland and Seattle met for the first time this season last night but it's just the beginning of the teams playing SEVEN games against each other in an 11-day span. Seattle opened the series with a 3-1 win. Friday's game will feature Shane Bieber (8-7, 3.10 ERA) of Cleveland against the Mariners' Logan Gilbert (10-5, 3.52 ERA). The Indians are 15-8 in Bieber's 2022 starts, while the Mariners have gone 15-10 Gilbert's starts. That comes after a 2021 season in which the Mariners went 16-8 in his 24 starts. I had Seattle last night but will take Cleveland tonight, as Bieber owns a 1.71 ERA in his four August starts, while Gilbert owns an 'ugly' 7.87 ERA in his four August starts.

ADDICTED TO YOU - This gelding is in good condition. Finished second on August 11th. May be extremely hard to beat this horse on the turf today. Last out scored a nice turf figure, the highest of any of these animals. This horse has increased his Equibase speed figures in each of the last 2 races. That kind of progress is worth taking a look at. YOUR MISSION - This gelding has the top turf number in his last race. It doesn't take a college grad like The Brain to figure this here horse has a good chance. Was in a Maiden Special race at Saratoga in the last race. That event had a class rating of 85 and he is moving down right here. A certain serious competitor. This one has increased his Equibase speed figures in each of the last two races. That kind of progress is extremely important. I like this gelding. Has the uppermost earnings per race in this one. ON PALM SUNDAY - This gelding likes to be near the lead. Today's contest is a shorter distance and should help his chances to win. This gelding is in nice condition. Ran fourth on Aug 11th. Jockey hops right back on after getting to know the race horse by riding in the last race. That's always a great angle. This mount may have too much power on the turf for the rest of the field. When they hit the top of the lane, he could put these away. The outside post didn't help this horse's chances last out at Saratoga. Today's inside post position should be just fine.
