Race 1: Big Wave Bay Handicap

#6 See U Again is racing well and should already be a winner in Hong Kong. He’s done nothing wrong so far and should get every opportunity here under Zac Purton – who on Sunday – collected a treble. #2 Charming Steed is a winner in this grade. Happy Valley suits him and he shapes as the main danger. #8 Vamos mixes his form but is closing in on a first win. If they go hard early on, it’ll suit his chances. #9 Pretty Queen Prawn is coming to hand. A first win in town is very, very close.

Race 2: Chung Hom Kok Handicap (2nd Section)

#8 Hercules is doing a lot right and he should get the run of the race here from gate one. Strong booking of Silvestre de Sousa who will ensure he gets every chance. #1 H Z Tourbillon makes a favourable return to Class 4. He should improve in this grade and has shown previously that he is more than capable here. Chances are #2 Goodluck Goodluck rolls to the front. He can take a bit of getting past at times. #7 Hero Star is chasing back-to-back wins. He appears to have held his condition and does have consistency on his side.

Race 3: Deep Water Bay Handicap

#2 Valiant Elegance can hug the rail and score a dream run throughout. Pace looks to be strong so chances are he doesn’t get a sole lead, however, he might not even need that to get on the board once more. #1 Elon’s best is blistering. Expect he comes from off the pace and he is one who will be suited by the prospects of a hot tempo. #6 Super Vince steps out on debut. Strong booking of Zac Purton first-up for Frankie Lor which commands respect. #7 Awesome Treasure impressed in a recent trial at Conghua. Keep safe.

Race 4: Middle Bay Handicap

#5 Wins All has dipped to a competitive mark. His last run in Class 5 returned a win and the prospects of him getting another here look strong, especially with Zac Purton electing to ride. #10 Day Day Rich trialled up well. He can find the front under Lyle Hewitson who knows exactly what’s required to rate a frontrunner. #1 Goodmanship is chasing back-to-back wins. He won with authority last start and gets another chance in the same grade here. #7 Gold Gold Baby turned his form around last start. The break will have done him a world of good.

Race 5: Chung Hom Kok Handicap (1st Section)

#6 Sight Hero should have won more races last season but unfortunately the cards didn’t fall his way. Still, he’s trialled well ahead of his return and the draw should ensure him every opportunity. #4 Hardly Swears has tumbled down to a competitive rating. Zac Purton’s spotted this and his booking commands respect. #1 Kokushi Musou is chasing back-to-back wins. He has the class edge but in saying this, he also must shoulder top weight. #3 Harmony N Home returned to his best at the tail-end of last season. Don’t discount.

Race 6: The Community Chest Cup Handicap

#2 Big Two is after consecutive wins. He’s been without luck throughout his career in Hong Kong but that could well be about to change. Expect he’s wound up to perform first-up and his class could carry him a long way here. #4 Vincy is back in Class 4 which is a huge plus. He has the class to win this race, however, he is getting on in age as an eight-year-old. #7 Kungfumaster Panda knows how to win at the Valley. He won’t be favoured but has the tendency to surprise at times. #1 Fearless Fire gets his chance, albeit with the big weight.

Race 7: Repulse Bay Handicap

#8 Comet Splendido found form late last season. He’s since caught the eye at the trials and looks big threat as one of three in the race for Danny Shum. A replication of his final run last term could see him go on with it. #3 Romantic Combo is arguably better on the dirt but he has been known to surprise on turf. The inside draw suits him here. #6 Viva Hunter starred with three wins last season. He doesn’t know how to run poorly and Zac Purton’s booking bears close watching. #1 Nothing New has the class, though he does need to offset a hefty impost.

Race 8: Shek O Handicap

#3 Five Elements was knocking on the door all last season. He gets his chance here from an ideal draw which should offer up the run of the race. One to beat. #1 Nicconi County is a two-time winner from five starts. He has a touch of class and did well to cross the line first in a recent barrier trial. #9 Xponential doesn’t know how to run a bad race. He looks wound up and should be fighting out the finish. #5 Beauty Glory is closing in on a first win. Expect he’s ready to fire first-up with Zac Purton engaged.

Australian thoroughbred Tab meetings are today held at Sandown-Hillside, Warwick Farm, Belmont Park, Balaklava and Narrandera.

SANDOWN-HILLSIDE: RACE 5 @ 3:20 PM

PICARONES (10) was back from a long break when resuming here. She ran well, looking in need of the hit out in the last furlong after travelling well. Winner there was smart and while this race is deep in numbers, it lacks the talent that she faced first up. She can beat them. PUCKAPUNYAL (3) ran well when second first up and will improve. She was a winner second up last prep and did that well. SAVONIA (14) is also second up. Nice winner fresh and going to be well fancied for the in-form yard. REPUTABELLE (1) comes across from NZ. May need this one but the blinkers are on and she is under notice.
SELECTIONS: Like Picarones in this.

WARWICK FARM: RACE 5 @ 3:45 PM

WILLINGA RUFIO (4) is a very promising gelding who won his first two starts in dominant fashion before a gallant showing at Rosehill before a spell. He's been given two solid trials to prepare for the 1600m first up and might just be a bit better than these. KOKORO (5) is the main danger. He's won 2/3 this time in and was dominant at Wyong last time out. McDonald sticks with him and he'll be hard to hold out late. GLAMOUR FOX (7) found the line well to place last time out and rates a place chance here again from a tricky draw. SO SNEEKY (8) will find it tough to win but is going okay and is another that can figure in the minor money.
SELECTIONS: Willinga Rufio to win.

BELMONT PARK: RACE 6 @ 4:55 PM

LORD GANNICUS (11) was just beat at Ascot on debut and followed with the Maiden win here bet a 1-2F. He's trialled well for his resumption and is a promising galloper in a top barn. The one they have to beat. GALAXY AFFAIR (9) resumes off a Group 3 outing and has strong back-form in Open 2s. Finally draws a decent barrier and the sharp trial suggests he's tuned up and ready to go. CJP is booked and that's a push. WINNING ACES (1) missed a nose here second-up and keeps the handy 3kg claim. Has the outside gate but can make the finish.
SELECTIONS: Backing Lord Gannicus to win.

BALAKLAVA: RACE 8 @ 3:40 PM

Great edition of the Balaklava Cup with many chances. WINNING PARTNER (2) has won this race the past two years and there's no reason he can't win it again. He struggled at Caulfield last time out behind a very smart horse but was excellent at Flemington prior. Draws very wide but will be hard to hold out. NOT USUAL GLORIOUS (1) is back from a let up and back in trip but racing very well having won three in a row. Would love a heavy track but handles all surfaces. AGREEABLE (6) gets in with 54kg for Jamie Kah. She can mix her form but is right up to these at her best and was good to the line last start. NONAME LANE (5) was just fair two back at Caulfield behind Not Usual Glorious but bounced back with a sharp win over 1050m and will appreciate the extra trip.
SELECTIONS: Winning Partner on top.

NARRANDERA: RACE 5 @ 3:24 PM

RUPP (6) has been knocking on the door of a maiden victory with two solid efforts to start the career and strikes a contest here without much depth. Drawn well for Heywood and hails from a very astute barn. Should be right there when the judge calls a halt. INFILTRATED (11) has been just behind the placegetters in both outings to date and looks to be improving with racing. Should play a role in the finish. PERSUASIVE STAR (3) draws low and gets 2kg off with the claim. In the mix. MY BROTHER BOB (2) disappointed last time but the form prior was very consistent. Top-three contender on best form. The well-related RANSAKKA (5) being best of the rest.

It is Balaklava Cup Day on Wednesday as racing heads to the Mid North region of South Australia for the Balaklava Racing Club’s marquee day. The track is rated a Soft 5, with the rail in the true position throughout, although with persistent rain forecast throughout the day, it might pay to do the form around a Soft 6 or 7. The day of action gets underway at 11:35am ACST with a small six-horse field in a three-year-old maiden plate.
Balaklava Cup Top Tip – Noname Lane

The Listed Balaklava Cup (1600m) takes centre stage on Wednesday afternoon, and we expect the Will Clarken-trained Noname Lane to leave connections with the major share of the $107,250 on offer. The six-year-old has managed to string together three wins from his last four starts, and based on his last-start victory over 1050m, we expect he will fire over the mile. The Shamus Award gelding won a BM80 over the mile three runs back when getting the upper hand over Skilled Bunch and Somerset Maugham while racing up on speed. We expect to see Todd Pannell to have this bloke settled in the first four having drawn trickily in barrier 18. As long as the pair do not get trapped wide throughout and they’re afforded the luxury of settling outside the leader or in the one-one, Noname Lane has the form and certainly the wet-track record (12: 7-2-0) to be the one walking away with the Balaklava Cup.

The Greg Lesnikowski & Ryan Hannemann-trained Saville had strung together consecutive wins to begin his campaign before heading to a Morphettville BM68 on September 3 where he finished on the heels of the placegetters. Although he ran three lengths off eventual winner Taunting, the five-year-old showed enough to suggest he would take some beating wherever he went. He had won previously when settling at the rear of the field and flashing home on the back of a genuine tempo. With Exalted Maxine and Jacks On Ice engaged in this race, he is sure to gain that over the 1200m scamper. The step back to BMM64 midweek company looks ideal, and under a well-timed steer from Ryan Hurdle, Saville looks a great bet in the second leg of the quaddie. Considering pre-post favourite Nicconi Express has been scratched, the $3.30 with online Bookmakers looks to be a steal.

The way the Peter Hardacre-trained Imposing Suspect broke his maiden at Murray Bridge over 1400m suggested he was one to follow, and we hope he can bring up a second win at start three on Wednesday. The four-year-old gelding had to settle at the rear of the field on August 31 but unleashed a devastating turn of foot down the centre of the track to finish over the top of his rivals. In the end, the win was a soft one, but a repeat effort here on the back of a genuine speed should see this Unusual Suspect gelding prove too hard to hold out once more. As long as Eran Boyd has him in clear air in the home straight, the $11 on offer with online betting sites looks to be a perfect bank-builder.

Our best bet of the day comes up in the opening leg of the quaddie when the Chris Waller-trained Otyrar looks to continue his impressive form. The four-year-old gelding has a win and two minor placings from his last three starts, and having shown he can do it on the back of any tempo, he looks the one to beat in this 2040m event. The four-year-old son of New Approach won at the track and trip two starts back and has not finished out of the quinella in his two starts at the 2000m distance range. From barrier 10, we anticipate James Orman will look to have this bloke settled towards the rear of the field. As long as he gains a tow into the race approaching the home turn, he has the form and ability to finish over the top of his rivals.

Tony Gollan and Ben Thompson will be hoping it is third time lucky this campaign for four-year-old mare Drammatica. The Sprit Of Boom mare has been narrowly beaten at both starts this campaign, most notably when going down by a lip at the Sunshine Coast on August 28. She simply had too much to do on that day, yet showed a win isn’t too far away if she can replicate that form. Despite drawing the widest barrier (12), she will snag back to the rear of the field, but with Outback Playboy set to make this a genuinely run 1050m maiden event, the race looks perfectly poised for Drammatica to flash home late.

She already has a win to her name at this track and trip, and having only finished out of the top three once in her six career starts, she clearly has some ability under the hood. The Hillside track at Sandown Racecourse is the destination for metropolitan racing in Victoria this Wednesday afternoon. History has shown that backmarkers should still be able to make an impact with the rail set out 12m all the way around, and with improving conditions forecast leading into the meeting, we could be racing on a better surface than the current Soft 6. We kick off the day of racing at 1pm AEST.
SANDOWN BEST BET: Zouzarella

It has been over a year since Zouzarella tasted success in the Listed Atlantic Jewel Stakes, but Wednesday looks to be the day she picks up a confidence-boosting win. Since that victory, she has started favourite in a Thousand Guineas, where she was beaten two lengths by Fangirl in the Light Fingers Stakes, and then was simply outclassed in a Surround Stakes and William Reid Stakes. First-up this time in, she chased home the likes of Chain Of Lightning, She’s All Class and Kissonallforcheeks when beaten four lengths in the Cockram Stakes. Those sorts of form lines stand out like a sore thumb in a race like this. From barrier 13, look for Brett Prebble to have this girl settling midfield in the moving line before putting away this BM84 field.

NEXT BEST AT SANDOWN: Mahrez

Following a less than ideal run first-up, the Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr-trained Mahrez will be looking to bounce back with a second career win. The four-year-old gelding simply did not handle the Heavy 9 conditions on August 24, so the improving track at Sandown should play into his hands. Considering he was only beaten 2.5 lengths in the Group 2 Autumn Stakes and Group 2 Caulfield Autumn Classic, he clearly has some ability. Despite not winning since his maiden success, he goes up against a bunch of perennial non-winners and should gain great benefit out of a race like this. Mark Zahra will have the son of Iffraaj lobbed midfield with cover, and when asked for an effort, Mahrez should prove too hard to hold out.

SANDOWN VALUE BET: Perfect World

The Anthony & Sam Freedman-trained Perfect World is another one who brings Group form into this Sandown meeting. The five-year-old mare was beaten 1.5 lengths in November last year by Steinem in the Group 3 Summoned Stakes when finishing third, but then struggled to make much of an impact in her short autumn campaign. From barrier 11 with the booking of apprentice Matthew Cartwright, we expect to see the Pride Of Dubai mare settled in the first half a dozen so as to be within striking distance on the home turn. She has a nice enough turn of foot for a level like this, and as long as she can handle the 60kg first-up off a five-month spell, Perfect World looks a great bet with online Bookmakers.

Seven races are set down for decision at Warwick Farm Racecourse this Wednesday afternoon. The track has come up a Soft 5, with the rail out 5m from the 1000m to the winning post and out 3m the remainder. Racing is scheduled to start at 12:55pm AEST with a maiden handicap for three-year-olds, which is where our best bet comes up.
Best Bet at Warwick Farm – Zakiyya

We do not need to wait too long for our best bet of the day as the Chris Waller-trained Zakiyya looks to build on her impressive third-place debut effort. The Siyouni filly travelled three wide throughout and, despite being beaten a touch under four lengths by the impressive Zou Tiger, really knuckled down inside the final 100m to suggest she was one worth following. The booking of James McDonald on Wednesday is notable, and if JMac can have his mount settled midfield with cover, this girl showed enough on debut to suggest this race is well within her grasp. An improving track should only benefit her chances, and with clear air in the home straight, Zakiyya should prove too strong for this lot.

Next Best at Warwick Farm – On The Beach

It is not very often we tip a first starter as one of our better bets, but the way the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained On The Beach has trialled suggests she will take a power of beating on debut. The Not A Single Doubt filly has record emphatic victories at her two trials leading into her debut, and based on her four-length trial victory at Gosford on August 29, she is going to be hard to run down. Barrier 17 is no deterrent, in our eyes, as Tim Clark will look to have this three-year-old lead throughout. As long as she does not need to work too hard to find the lead, On The Beach should be opening her career with a nice win at the Warwick Farm 1100m. Anything better than even money with online betting sites will be an absolute steal come 2:05pm on Wednesday.

Despite that being a maiden event, she showed a really sharp turn of foot upon straightening. With this race expected to be run at a genuine tempo, it shapes up perfectly for Regan Bayliss to have her at the rear field of the field before swooping on some potentially tired leaders. If the track gets upgraded to a Good 4, her chances increase even more, and we expect California Surreal to prove too strong over the concluding stages.
