Seoul Saturday: Race-By-Race Preview (September 24)

Saturday’s racing is at Seoul with 10 races from 10:45 to 18:00. Jockey Moon Se-young is suspended this weekend but there is a return to action for Jo Jae-ro, who has completed his national service. Here are the previews:

    Seoul Race 1: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 60 Million

Juvenile maidens in the opener with nine of the twelve racing for the first time. As so often though, experience gets the nod and (9) CRAZY LOVE is the top pick and warm favourite. She’s the only one here to have raced twice and she improved to 2nd in her latest start over this trip on August 13th when on pace throughout. Her times have been good, and a similar run will win this. (1) YONGAMREX ran pleasingly enough for 5th of eleven on debut on August 21st. He should have come on for that run and with some natural improvement can get closer this time. The pick of the first timers is probably (8) CHROMITE. He stopped the clock in a fair time in a tight finish in his trial and bringing that form to the races will see him in the placing hunt. (11) GEUMSEONG TALHWAN won a trial, albeit not a fast one, and that entitles him to some interest here. (2) BLOOMING STAR another who hinted at ability in his heat.
Selections (9) Crazy Love (1) Yongamrex (8) Chromite (11) Geumseong Talhwan
    Next Best 2, 4
    Fast Start 1, 8, 9, 11

    Seoul Race 2: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 60 Million

More juvenile maidens, this time with eight of the twelve stepping out for the first time. This time we break the rule and side with a newcomer in the shape of (4) LUCKY SUN. He sat handy in his heat before running on well to cross the line in front in a fast time. A similar performance will be enough to win on debut here. (2) TAKE MUSIC led for much of his debut, ultimately weakening to 7th in the closing stages but in a fair time. He should be better for that run, is drawn well here and can be in this a long way again. (1) CHEONJON CHAT has raced twice, running 4th of twelve in the second of them on August 27th. The times haven’t been fast but if he shows similar improvement again, he can be in the mix. Returning to the first-time starters and (6) BEST SUN and (12) JANGHEUNG CLASS, the latter whose trial wasn’t as bad as the slow time suggests, could make an impact first-up.
Selections (4) Lucky Sun (2) Take Music (1) Cheonjon Chat (6) Best Sun
    Next Best 12, 7
    Fast Start 1, 2, 5, 9

    Seoul Race 3: Class 6 (1200M) Allowance / KRW 40 Million

    (2) WONPYEONG TOWN will be hot favourite. He has shown steady improvement across three starts so far, all of them over 1000M and culminating in a runner-up finish in a fast time on August 21st. The additional furlong should be no problem and the inside gate means he can be on pace again and this time lead all the way. (6) GUKDAE CLASS comes in off an improved 3rd place over this distance on August 20th when ridden on pace for the first time having been painfully slow away in his opening two efforts. Expect similar tactics here and potentially a similar or better result. (8) SARANG DAMOA has been much improved since returning from six months off in July, registering a 4th and a 2nd. Third-up today she could be peaking. (7) POWERFUL HWASEONG and (10) LUXSEN among others in at least the placing frame.
Selections (2) Wonpyeong Town (6) Gukdae Class (8) Sarang Damoa (7) Powerful Hwaseong
    Next Best 10, 3
    Fast Start 1, 2, 6, 10

    Seoul Race 4: Class 5 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million

Fillies only here. (10) SAENAE QUEEN made all to win in fine style on debut over 1000M on August 20th. She comes up in class and distance, and isn’t favoured by the draw, but she has firm claims to measure up in this company. (3) RAON GIANT was a good winner on debut over 1000M in July before running 4th on her first try at this class and distance on August 20th when settling handy to midfield and then running on. The Musket Man filly draws well here and may start as the betting favourite. The other main player looks set to be (7) AL SIMON. A winner at this distance at class 6 level two starts back, she ran a more than creditable 5th on her first try at this class on August 20th. She can settle handy or midfield and can play a big role here. (4) HWANGGEUM DALBIT can be forgiven her latest couple and given another chance here and along with (1) WILD RUNNER, who also had a disappointing day at the office last time, is a place chance.
Selections (10) Saenae Queen (3) Raon Giant (7) Al Simon (4) Hwanggeum Dalbit
    Next Best 1, 5
    Fast Start 3, 10, 11, 12

    Seoul Race 5: Class 5 (1300M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million

While he doesn’t exactly win out of turn, (1) HOEDURYEONG has probably earned the right to favourite status here. He is super consistent with eleven top five finishes and has posted fast times, including the fastest of any of these over today’s distance by some margin. He draws well to sit just off the speed here and can win. Should he find one too quick again, it might be (5) YAMUJIN WANGCHO. Still a maiden after ten attempts, he comes in off three consecutive runner-up finishes, the latest of which was at this class and distance on August 21st. He draws better today and can go close again. Another non-winner of plenty is (4) MAIN OF KING but he too has his fair share of near misses. They include three runner-up finishes from his last four starts, but he looks nicely in again under an apprentice who knows him well and another placing looks on the cards. The up in class (11) CLASSIC STAR – who does know how to win – along with (8) THUNDER FLASH look the best of the rest.
Selections (1) Hoeduryeong (5) Yamujin Wangcho (4) Main Of King (11) Classic Star
    Next Best 8, 2
    Fast Start 4, 6, 8, 11

    Seoul Race 6: Class 5 (1400M) Allowance / KRW 40 Million

Tricky race but the step up to 1400M may suit (5) WORLD KING MAN. His win was at 1000M at class 6 level, but he has finished off his two tries at this class in good style and the additional furlong should see him powering home. (7) BLUE HAMMER is a class and distance winner already and has run consistently good times at this distance. He races for the first time in eight weeks, but an apprentice jockey takes a full 4kg off his back and he should be firmly in this. (11) SEMYEONG GANGJA was sent off as the longest shot on the board at her latest outing on August 28th but defied that to run an excellent 2nd at class and distance. She is yet to win from eighteen starts and probably won’t here either, but she looks a solid place chance again. (1) THE FIGHTING and the up in class (4) GEONGONILCHEOK are among others in the frame.
Selections (5) World King Man (7) Blue Hammer (11) Semyeong Gangja (1) The Fighting
    Next Best 4, 12
    Fast Start 3, 4, 10, 11

    Seoul Race 7: Class 4 (1400M) Allowance / KRW 60 Million

    (12) TROTTING RILEY notched his third win from six starts making all over class and distance on August 27th. He comes up 4kg in the weights here and must contend with the widest draw, but he has strong claims again. The other standout is (7) SINUI HANSU. He was a winner over this distance in a super time at class 5 level two starts back before running 4th over 1300M on his first try at this class on August 28th. He comes up 3kg in the weights from that but should be competitive here. (2) DIA KEY could only manage 6th behind Trotting Riley last time out but two starts back was a class and distance winner and he can be given another chance today. (11) HANGANG CHAMP and (1) DANGCHAN SERYEOK among others in at least the placing frame.
Selections (12) Trotting Riley (7) Sinui Hansu (2) Dia Key (11) Hangang Champ
    Next Best 1, 9
    Fast Start 3, 9, 11, 12

    Seoul Race 8: Class 4 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

    (2) SUPERDIA returns to action for the first time since May and comes up in class having won back-to-back races, both at this distance. She performed well in a trial three weeks ago and from a good draw can be competitive first-up here. (1) ULTRA KING had a hard time when slowly away from a wide draw at his latest start back in July. He has had a couple of months off since and from a much better gate today and back in trip for the first time in a while, he can go closer. (9) GEOSEN DOLPUNG enters off a solid 3rd place at class and distance last time out when totally unfancied. He doesn’t come up at all in the weights and from a similarly wide draw, he can go close again. (12) GLOBAL MAGIC and (4) DOUBLE BLACK are the others logical place chances.
Selections (2) Superdia (1) Ultra King (9) Geosen Dolpung (12) Global Magic
    Next Best 4, 11
    Fast Start 1, 2, 4, 9

    Seoul Race 9: Class 4 (1700M) Allowance / KRW 60 Million

    (6) COMPLETE TIME tackles two-turns for the first time having won three from seven so far, including her most recent two, the latest at this class over 1400M on August 13th. She comes up 4kg in weight for that but can be on pace again and has every chance of leading all the way around. Also up significantly in weight is (1) RUNNING NUMBER ONE. That’s because of a class and distance win on August 21st when he made all. That weight is offset a little by a much better draw and he should be in the hunt here. (7) DOUBLE EDGE ran in all three legs of the Triple Crown series earlier this year and while he didn’t meet with success, he returned to shallower waters to run 3rd at class and distance on July 17th. With a couple of months more to have recovered from his early season exertions, he could be ready for a bold showing here. (3) YONGAM BOSS has won his latest two and like Complete Time comes up in weight and in trip but should be competitive. (4) DREAM SPEED another placing hope.
Selections (6) Complete Time (1) Running Number One (7) Double Edge (3) Yongam Boss
    Next Best 4, 11
    Fast Start 3, 4, 6, 11

    Seoul Race 10: Class 3 (1800M) Allowance / KRW 75 Million

    (9) WONDERFUL K comes up in class having made all to win over this distance on August 27th. The set weight conditions aren’t in his favour, but he can measure up in this company. (7) LUCKY HOON returned to action on August 28th following seven months out. He ran a solid 5th over class and distance that day and should benefit for it here. (2) MUNHAK MOON has solid form at this level and while he carries his fair share of weight here, he draws nicely and can be a danger. (12) SKY DOLPUNG is another who has to carry plenty, but he comes in off a win and a runner-up finish over this class and distance and while he also must deal with the widest gate, he can go close. (8) QUICKSILVER KITTEN beat Munhak Moon as the pair of them came home 3rd and 4th over a mile at this class on August 21st. This is his first time around two turns but having appreciated the mile, it’s not impossible he may like today’s extended trip too.
Selections (9) Wonderful K (7) Lucky Hoon (2) Munhak Moon (12) Sky Dolpung
    Next Best 8, 10
    Fast Start 5, 6, 8, 10

Belmont At Aqueduct - September 24

        September 23, 2022

Today’s NY Hot List races to watch – Saturday, September 24, 2022 – Belmont at the Big A By Matt Shifman and Bob Ehalt

Hot List Key: A: A preferred horse to watch B: Secondary horse to watch *C: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 1st through 3rd *D: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 4th or worst * - 4 or more betting notches if 11-1 or more.

1st race [NY, Md Sp Wt, 1 1/16 mi TURF] – (6) Excursionniste (C) was bet down from 8-1 to 6-1 and finished third at Saratoga. In his prior start, he was moved up to second by disqualification. (8) Silent Running was second at Belmont in June and then stepped up to try a NY Stallion Series stakes race at Saratoga. (5) Uragano pressed the pace, had the lead, and ended up second in a maiden claimer last time. This is not a strong field of maiden special weights. (1) Dreampoint had lots of tries to break his maiden, but he has a bunch of top three finishes.

2nd race [Clm 35000 N3L, 1 mi] – (3) Arrio (C) has been away since December when he was claimed out of a similar spot. On that day, he was bet down from 7-1 to 5-1 with past wins on the turf and the dirt at Laurel Park. (7) Kinetic Sky ran his first start this year at Saratoga last month in an allowance race for Brad Cox who drops him into a claimer. (4) Spectatorless is projected to be the pacestetter and returns from a July layoff. (5) Corkman was third last time in a starter allowance at the Spa. He is a past winner at Aqueduct going the one-turn mile.

3rd race [Athenia (G3), 1 1/16 mi TURF] – (3) Love and Thunder (A) was blocked down the stretch and had to alter course in the De La Rose at Saratoga. She got up for third once she found running room. (5) Kalifornia Queen will make her 2022 debut for Chad Brown after facing graded stakes company last year when she hit the board three times at three different tracks. In Germany, she was a Group 2 winner. (4) Tass is projected to be on the lead in the Athenia after a win in a stakes race at Colonial Downs last time. Rider Jose Lezcano excels on the turf with speedy runners. (1) In a Hurry won the All Along at Pimilco just two weeks ago with a front-end effort for Shug McGaughey after training at Fair Hills recently.

11th race [NY, Md 40000, 1 1/16 mi TURF] – (5) Capital Gal (B) was steadied back to last at the start, raced wide, rallied for fifth, and now drops in for a tag for the first time. (11) Latest Edition (B) will be the second choice if she gets into the race from the Also Eligible list. (3) Jannie Mae is projected to be on the lead in this field. (9) Oak Loves a Fight was third and second at this level in her last two starts. (4) Mouly was claimed from her last race and gets blinkers off for a low-profile trainer who is having an excellent year in New York.

Best bets: Excursionniste (1st); Capital Gal (11th). Best value: Arrio (2nd); Love and Thunder (3rd). @NYHotList Saturday Pick 3 Special -- The Saturday Special $1 Pick 3 covers races 1-3 and includes the Athenia (G3)

Keeneland Select Pick Of The Day | September 24, 2022

          September 23, 2022

Race 10 at Parx | Saturday September 24 | Post Time 4:35 PM Eastern

Gallant Bob Stakes | Purse $300,000 | Six Furlongs | Three Year Olds

          Analysis and top contenders:

Alottahope (12) is five for 10 in his career including having won two in a row but substantial margins. He cuts back a furlong after a three wide rally from sixth to win going away in the Hilton Memorial last month and won a stakes prior to that on July 30 by 15 lengths. He can win from just off the pace or mid-pack and his last two efforts earned 105 and 107 Equibase Figures which are the BEST figures earned by any horse in this field in their last two starts. This is known as a “double advantage” and horses with kind of edge win a very high percentage of the time, yet Alottahope opens at 10 to 1 odds. He has gone to post at 4 to 1 or less in nine of 10 races but because of this 14 horse field we may get odds to win otherwise unlikely on this superb sprinter. Although he’s zero for 1 at six furlongs I have no doubt he can get the distance because the dam produced Street Lute, who earned over $600K and won stakes at both five and one-half as well as this six furlong trip

Nakatomi (11) is the other main win contender and like Alottahope is drawn very well to avoid traffic and sit mid-pack in the early stages He won the Bowman Mill Stakes for two year olds in very fast time last October, then took eight months off, returning as if he’d never been way to beat older horses handily in late June. The 102 and 101 figures are just fine for a lightly raced horse who has probably matured since last seen so he is just about as logical to win as Alottahope, not to mention he gets Rosario, who has won at a very strong 25% clip for trainer Ward on 75 starters combined this year and last.

There are a lot of other horses who can run well but I’m going to put them in second position on exacta tickets, with two exceptions. Provocateur (3) has won two of his last four, both stakes, gets Irad Ortiz, Jr. for Pletcher and has a decent shot with a 101 last race figure which if repeated makes him competitive. On the other hand he opens at 4 to 1 odds which are lower than 9/2 for Nakatomi or 10/1 for Alottahope so he doesn’t offer the same value for win bets as either of those two. Also, Lightening Larry (10) can be considered if for no other reason than a very strong 4-4-0 record in 10 starts and a win in the similar Chick Lang Stakes at the distance on Preakness Day with a 104 figure.

          Win bets:

We should consider Alottahope (12) and Nakatomi (11) at odds of 5 to 2 or higher.

Exactas: Box Provocateur (3), Lightening Larry (10), Nakatomi (11) and Alottahope (12).

          Nakatomi (11) and Alottahope (12) over Of a Revolution (2), Provocateur (3), Witty (8), Lightening Larry (10), Nakatomi (11), Alottahope (12) and Scaramouche (14).

            Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

            Hawthorne - Race #3
            Picks Notes
#7 April's Gem Her turf sprint form is pretty solid, and she should be in line for a pretty good trip while tracking the pace. Wouldn't be any surprise if she brings something like that last one in Indiana.
#5 Luvin Bullies She's a pretty reliable finisher, and even if she isn't what she once was, she looks to still have a baseline effort that stacks up okay with these. Looks like an obvious player.
#2 And Isles Think she's a decent enough fit with these off the last couple at Canterbury, and I would want her on the multi-race tickets with this group. Might get a first-over kind of trip.
Race Summary April's Gem can be hit or miss, but her recent turf sprint tries have been pretty good, and I think they might be enough to handle this group at a playable enough price.

            Hawthorne - Race #5
            Picks Notes
#7 Ronstadt He brought a good effort when trying starters on the Kentucky Downs lawn, and he has yet to run a bad race going long on the turf. Lots to like here for a tough barn.
#5 Future Victory He can be tough in here off the claim for a good team, and the recent East Coast form looks like it could be good enough. He figures overbet, but I wouldn't argue much with the overall form.
#4 Clarestown His running lines are a bit all over the place, but there are a few efforts on the page that would keep him in the mix with these, but I think he'll find one or two of these a bit too tough today.
Race Summary Ronstadt brings a good Kentucky Downs try with him to this one, and I'm not sure this is the deepest race for the level. If he's able to handle the Amoss claim, this might be his race.

            Hawthorne - Race #8
            Picks Notes
#4 Avasarala She got pretty good here earlier this year, and I'm hoping she can bounce back off the flat run when last seen in June. She was competitive with similar here in May, and she figures for a good trip right up near the top.
#5 Rookery Her better stuff obviously keeps her in the mix, but I worry she might get bet a bit off the Saratoga form, and she may once again be along too late in a spot like this.
#2 Maureenlovesfrank She's got pretty consistent form and now goes for a barn that excels locally with this kind. Think she is the one to beat, but there are a couple other options in here.
Race Summary Avasarala is better than when we last saw her, and she's fast enough to get a good trip near the top. Hoping a little time off gives her the room to bring something closer to her A-game.

              Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

              Pimlico - Race #3
              Picks Notes
#5 TAUBER (8-5) Going well since return, should run past this field as the favorite.
#2 PICKIN SEA GLASS (6-1) Led clear against Tauber at 5-1/2F, could turn tables at 5F.
#8 MAYA PRINCE (7-2) Won off layoff as first-time gelding, trainer-jockey combo is 36 percent.
Race Summary TAUBER is in top form and 3-for-11 on the turf; his rivals are a combined 4-38 on the lawn. He had trouble in 2 of his last 3 starts or could have won both. Play 5-2 and 5-8 exactas.

              Pimlico - Race #7
              Picks Notes
#3 HONEY PANTS (4-1) Troubled third against next-out G-II runner-up, must stay in contact for stretch run.
#8 MISS J McKAY (5-2) Multiple stakes-winning grass sprinter gets speed to run at, must use on all tickets.
#2 CREATIVE CREDIT (6-1) Carried speed to back-to-back stakes wins before tiring in 6-1/2F G-III test.
Race Summary Trainer Christophe Clement sends out a formidable 1-2 punch in the $100,000 Sensible Lady Turf Dash. MISS J McKAY, the morning-line favorite, rallied to win a pair of grass stakes in her last six starts and should get ample pace flow to do it again. But HONEY PANTS offers better value and is the top choice to notch her first stakes victory. She trailed into the far turn and lost momentum when steadied in the Incredible Revenge Stakes at Monmouth, but she made a strong recovery to finish third. She advanced on the rail and had 3-wide aim on trip-sitting winner Bay Storm, who came back to run second in a Grade II stake at Kentucky Downs.

              Pimlico - Race #9
              Picks Notes
#6 SEA FOAM (4-1) Went down fighting against classy fave after 8 months away, can use his speed well.
#8 ROUGH SEA (6-1) Rallied powerfully to win 4 of his last 5 non-stakes attempts, mostly at longer distances.
#1 AIN’T DA BEER COLD (6 Plays to a steady beat, as recent 8/3-2-2 mark at distance indicates.
Race Summary SEA FOAM gave millionaire NY-bred Bank It all he could handle but just missed after a stretch duel in the one-mile Evan Shipman Handicap at Saratoga. The lightly-raced but hard-hitting 7-year-old holds a tactical edge over his main rivals in this spot as he builds on a $799k bankroll. Bet to win and place.

Jeff Siegel’s National Best Plays for Saturday, September 24, 2022

Parx Racing– Eleventh Race – Post time: 5:20 ET
                2-Adare Manor (7/2)

Though she was beaten as the favorite in her last two starts, this talented sophomore filly deserves one more chance to regain her winning form now that she has rejoined the Bob Baffert stable. Second in the Black Eyed Susan Stakes in her most recent start in May, she was given the summer off and returns following a series of spectacular workouts in Southern California before being shipped to the East Coast for this year’s renewal of the $1 million Cotillion Stakes. Drawn comfortably inside, switching to Mike Smith, and catching a field that should allow her to secure her coveted pace pressing trip, the daughter of Uncle Mo offers excellent value at or near her morning line of 7/2.

                *

Churchill Downs – Tenth Race – Post time: 10:42 ET
                2-Home Brew (5/2)

Won the Pegasus Stakes at Monmouth Park two races back like a future star but failed to act on the sloppy going after a poor start and was far below his best form when unplaced in the West Virginia Derby last time out. The son of Street Sense adds blinkers and, assuming he breaks well, should find himself on or near the lead throughout in this year’s edition of the Bourbon Trail Stakes. On pure numbers he’s fast enough to beat this field and at 5/2 on the morning line we’re expecting him to do just that as a strong win play and rolling exotic single.

Al Cimaglia: Mohawk Million Late Pick 4 Analysis

                  September 24, 2022 | By Al Cimaglia

Woodbine Mohawk Park is the home of the Mohawk Million for 2-year-old trotters and tonight is Canada's richest program of harness racing. The card is loaded with big money stakes and includes the Metro Pace for 2-year-old pacers that has a $900,000 purse. The Mohawk Million is carded as Race 10 which also starts the 0.20 Late Pick 4 sequence, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

                  Race 10

1-Oh Well (2-1)-This Muscle Hill colt has won 3 of 5 lifetime starts and the 2 loses came when drawing the 8-hole and having broken equipment. This will be the 1st time starting from the rail, but Tetrick should work a smooth trip. Doesn't need to be on the engine every step of the way to win.
6-Winners Bet (5/2)-This is another talented colt who has hit the board in every start (6-3-2-1). From this post Dunn should be able to come off cover and be there at the wire.

                  Race 11

1-Highlandbeachlover (8-1)-Sluggish starts are an issue and last time that was the case but did perform better than the line looked. Smoked the back half in 52.2 and has the speed to compete with the chalks. Jamieson is steering and maybe a new set of hands will benefit this Auciello trainee.
2-Commanding Officer (3-1)-Set a lifetime mark (149.2) two back and then took a couple of steps up in class. In the next start paced faster (149.1) to just miss by less than a length and finished 3rd. The price should be better than the last 2 starts and looks like a major player again with Dunn steering.
3-Whichwaytothebeach (5/2)-Has been facing better without any success and form has been dull. But drops to a spot to shine and will look for a wakeup call with Mark MacDonald in the bike. Hopefully, the price will be better than the morning line.

                  Race 12

3-Carbine (4-1)-Came off the bench after a 2-month rest and lost by a half-length at M1. Should fit with this bunch, looks like a real threat, and gets the services of Todd McCarthy. The same pilot steered this 4-year-old to victory in his only start at Mohawk.
4-Cold Creek Cabo (6-1)-Set a new lifetime mark of 148.1 in last, steps-up and best to not overlook. This won't be as easy, but the last start made an impression. Left from post 9, wired the field and had the pedal down going 121 to 3/4's with a 27.1 last panel.
5-American History (5/2)-Gets post relief and class relief which should be what the doctor ordered. Now, all that is needed to be a major threat is a decent trip and hoping the Moreau entry won't be bet down.

                  Race 13

2-Legion Seelster (5/2)-It looked like the 2-hole trip would be good enough for a picture last week, but it wasn't. Willing to give another chance, did pace in 149 with a 26.2 final panel and only lost by a neck.
6-Woodmere Stealdeal (4-1)-Comes off a sharp win and set a new mark doing it mostly on his own. Seems to be rounding into form after being off for 14 weeks. This will be his 4th start back, steps-up so should offer a square price and draws well.

                  0.20 Late Pick 4

                  1,6/1,2,3/3,4,5/2,6
                  Total Bet=$7.20

                        #1 BLUEYED PRINCESS (ML=20/1)
                        #3 NO WHAMMIE (ML=6/1)
                        #4 ZIPPITY DAY (ML=7/2)

BLUEYED PRINCESS - This is the only real stalker in the race. Jadoo and Chubb perform well when they combine forces. It's hard to beat a +75 return on investment for a rider and trainer. In this race here, this magnificent animal has earned the highest speed fig at the distance, so I have to give her the edge. Have to give this mare a good chance. Ran a solid outing in the last race within the last month. NO WHAMMIE - Taking this jockey/trainer combination is a smart choice. I just may give this one a shot. Should improve off last race where she did run outside the top 3, but was within 5 lengths at the end. Ranked numero uno in earnings per start. Another indicator that this animal has the class to win today. ZIPPITY DAY - This thoroughbred coming off a sharp contest in the last 30 days is a strong challenger in my opinion. PP lines show this horse with three improving speed figs. Jones should be on a horse ready to go in this event. This thoroughbred may have too much power on the grass for the rest of the field. Turning for the finish line, she could put these away.

                        Vulnerable Contenders: #7 BLAZING SKY (ML=9/5), #6 GOLDSTORM GLORY (ML=5/2), #5 SMARTY ILLUSION (ML=8/1),

BLAZING SKY - This morning-line favorite may be out of form without any recent drills. GOLDSTORM GLORY - Hasn't hit the board in any short distance races recently. Doubtful to see her doing it today either. Earned a most unsatisfactory speed fig in the last race in a $25,000 Claiming race on August 11th. Improbable to see an improved performance off of that number. SMARTY ILLUSION - This mare hasn't been showing me anything positive in the last couple of efforts. Doubtful for this participant to make an impact with no recent good showings in a short distance clash.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: The Brain - ZIPPITY DAY - My statistics say it usually takes a racer one - Two races after a layoff to get back into proper condition. That's just what we have here, so I have a good feeling for this horse.

                          # 1 YO BRINDIS CAYENNE 6/1

                          # 8 JV PAPP B MOVEN 3/1

                          # 5 BP PAINT THE MOON 5/2

I think YO BRINDIS CAYENNE is a very good choice. Could provide positive gains based on formidable recent Speed Figures with an average of 79. Had one of the best Equibase speed figs of this group in her last outing. Looks to have a quite good class edge based on the recent company kept. JV PAPP B MOVEN - He looks respectable in this slot and I expect will be on the front end or close at the midpoint. The speed figure of 88 from his most recent race looks competitive in here. BP PAINT THE MOON - Has posted solid speed figures in short races in the past. Has solid speed figures and has to be considered for a bet in this race.

                            # 6 CLAYTON DELANEY 7/2

                            # 4 RESULTANT 5/2

CLAYTON DELANEY has a quite good shot to take this race. Seems to have a strong class edge based on the recent company kept. Has formidable speed figures and has to be considered for a bet in this event. With better than average trips to the winner's circle, Payeras will almost certainly have this gelding in excellent position to win the race. BEEF WINSLOW - Had one of the most competitive Equibase Speed Figs of this group in his last race. Has been moving in the most competitive company of the group recently. RESULTANT - Is worth looking at and may be a bet - strong Equibase Speed Figures (87 average) at today's distance and surface recently. Could beat this field given the 93 Equibase Speed Figure put up in his last outing.

                              #2 SONIC SPEED (ML=8/1)

CALL CURT - He'll most likely come from deep to circle the field and should be in wonderful shape to be a winner. Speed ratings on the grass point to this horse as a legit contender. Has the best in the field for this distance/surface. In my opinion, you need 'class' to be successful on the turf. This one has the highest average class rating in the field. I really like that latest race on August 25th at Penn National where he ended up second. COMEDIC TIMING - Rodriguez and Gomez getting together are a horseplayer's friend. Gomez is great in turf routes. This animal should have no justifications if he doesn't win. All systems look good for this gelding. Last prep, 2nd fastest of the day, shows he's fit and ready. I like that most recent effort on August 29th at Monmouth Park where he ended up first. This gelding registered a good figure of 100 in his last race. That speed fig should be lofty enough to score this time around. This gelding has lots of ability on the turf. Could be long gone by the time they come out of the final turn. SONIC SPEED - Coming off a fourth place finish at Saratoga, some may pass this horse. I'm not. He just missed hitting the show spot, and has pretty decent morning odds today. This pony broke from the outside at Saratoga last time out, racing 1 1/16 miles, but is getting a low post position in this race, which should help his chances today.

Vulnerable Contenders: #8 MAGICAL MARRIAGE (ML=7/2), #1 XY TIME (ML=5/1), #6 KING OF HOLLYWOOD (ML=8/1),

MAGICAL MARRIAGE - Should be difficult for this thoroughbred to beat this group off of that last speed figure. Unlikely to improve enough to run a figure anywhere near today's class rating, so put him on the likely underlays list. XY TIME - Don't think that this colt has value at 5/1 this time. KING OF HOLLYWOOD - The young horse will have a hard time beating the older ones this time around. This horse just hasn't looked ready recently.
