#7 CARPE FORTUNA (ML=5/1)
#11 SHES'A PERFECTLADY (ML=5/1)
#13 WOODBINE WAY (ML=8/1)
#4 BLEU BALLON (ML=8/1)
CARPE FORTUNA - The horse with the top average class rating in turf events is usually a solid play. This pony fits the bill. This filly seems to run pretty good after a layoff. I just may give this one a shot. Should rebound off last race where she did run out of the money, but was within 5 lengths at the finish line. A repeat of that recent effort on January 23rd where she earned a speed figure of 94 looks good enough to prove victorious in this affair. SHES'A PERFECTLADY - Comparing how the horses in this field have fared under similar conditions, I see this one has the highest speed fig for the distance-surface. WOODBINE WAY - This thoroughbred has shown the capability to win on different racing tracks. Making the move from Del Mar for today's event, I have to believe she's ready to run. This trainer brings horses to the grass conditioned to win, winning over 20 pct of the time under similar conditions. Could be an overlay in this race at odds of 8/1. Finished seventh in last race at Del Mar but was close at the end. Two starts back coming off a brief layoff at Del Mar the animal looked good, but turned in a clunker the next time. This time I like the ability to bounce back off that dull effort with another nice event. BLEU BALLON - This filly has the top turf rating in her last race. It doesn't take a college grad like The Brain to figure this here horse has a good chance. You always have to be on the lookout for bankroll building jock/trainer duos; we have an instance right here. Ran a nice speed fig of 97 on Jul 18th. Followed it up with another Equibase speed figure of 94. Either effort is good enough to win this affair. McCarthy has this horse racing well coming into today. Three strong Equibase speed figures in most recent events make me say this thoroughbred will be tough. Ran a fast time for the last quarter on Aug 14th at Del Mar. Anything close in this event should get the job done.
Vulnerable Contenders: #9 GILLIAN ELIZABETH (ML=3/1), #12 TOM'S BEAUTY (ML=6/1), #6 SECRETS TOLD (ML=6/1),
GILLIAN ELIZABETH - Can't wager on this vulnerable equine in today's sprint of 6 1/2 furlongs. Hasn't even finished in the money in a sprint race recently. TOM'S BEAUTY - This filly hasn't had any positive outcomes in sprint contests in the last couple months. SECRETS TOLD - This filly is always in the mix, but just doesn't finish on top. Hard to wager on her on the top end. Doubtful that the speed rating she recorded on July 30th will be enough in this race.
STRAIGHT WAGERS:
Go with #7 CARPE FORTUNA on top if we're getting at least 5/1 odds
