    By: Aaron Halterman

It’s time for another great weekend of racing! For the free pick 4, we will head to Belmont at the Big A for the Late Pick 4 on the card. We will also have full card selections for Keeneland and Santa Anita Park for the paid Rockets, so be sure to check those out. Let’s GO!

Below is our free late Pick 4 for Belmont at the Big A:

Belmont at the Big A October 7, 2022

    Race 6: Claiming

#7 Principled Stand drops down to the claiming ranks today after running decently against allowance runners in his last few starts. #8 Not Phar Now moves back to the turf today, which should help his chances. He was close at a similar level over the turf two starts back.

    Race 7: Starter Allowance
    freestar

#4 Reckless Spirit usually shows up with a solid effort against this class level. He has been close in his last three starts against similar horses. #1 Hard Rye Guy runs first off of the claim for Camejo today, which usually leads to an improved effort.

    Race 8: Allowance Optional Claiming

#5 Baby Yoda gets class relief back to the allowance ranks today after struggling against stakes company last time out. #1A Bourbon Calling runs second off of the claim for Jacobson after a decent second place showing last time out at Parx in an allowance event.

    Race 9: Claiming

#3 Romanosa will drops down to claiming company today after back to back poor efforts against allowance runners at Belmont Park. #1 Quick Power Nap goes for two straight in this spot after defeating maiden claimers at Saratoga lat time out. She also runs first off of the claim for Rodriguez.

Cranbourne night racing tips & quaddie picks | Friday, October 7
        October 6, 2022 10:42 am.

        What Cranbourne Races
Where Cranbourne Turf Club – 50 Grant St, Cranbourne VIC 3977
        When Friday, October 7, 2022
        First Race 5:40pm AEDT

        Visit Ladbrokes

The Cranbourne Turf Club will be hosting its annual Pinker Pinker Plate meeting on Friday night with a massive nine-race card to open the night racing season. The track is currently rated a Good 4, but after a day of rain on Wednesday and 5-10 millimetres of rain predicted on Friday we could be on a Soft-rated track by the time the first race kicks off at 5:40pm AEDT. The rail will be in the true position for the entire circuit.
Pinker Pinker Plate Tip: Nerve Not Verve

The annual running of the $100,000 Pinker Pinker Plate over 2025m will go at 8:45pm, where we will be siding with the Michael Moroney-trained Nerve Not Verve. This seven-year-old mare was very good in defeat at Moonee Valley over 2040m in the Group 3 JRA Cup behind Desert Icon on a Soft track. This daughter of Shocking is very good on Soft or Heavy ground, recording four wins and seven minor placings from 19 starts on rain-affected going. Barrier 13 doesn’t worry us because there doesn’t seem to be much speed in this race, so hopefully Jamie Kah can get this girl to jump and sit on the speed or even lead. With Kah sticking with this girl from last start, it fills us with more confidence that Nerve Nor Verve will be ready to win.

Best Bet at Cranbourne: Blazing Burj

Blazing Burj was very good but also very green on debut at Geelong on September 15, but we fancy her chances over 2025m in race two this Friday night. The Mick Nolan-trained filly warmed up late in her debut run over 1733m and wanted to lug in as she was put under pressure, eventually just missing by a head to Mornington Mask. This daughter of Pride Of Dubai showed that a Heavy track won’t worry her, and if we are on a Soft track early in the program, she may enjoy that even more. Michael Dee has chosen to stick with this filly, and considering he witnessed her antics first-hand last start, he will be proactive and hopefully get this girl into the winner’s circle for the first time.

Next Best at Cranbourne: Thought Provoking

Lining up in race six over 1600m, the Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr-trained Thought Provoking will be second-up this preparation after she finished fourth over 1420m at Flemington on September 18 on a Heavy 10. With three wins and two seconds from seven starts, this lightly raced mare will be looking to add to that winning record in a race that looks easier than her last start. Jordan Childs will take the ride on this daughter of So You Think, who he has a very good relationship with, recording two wins and a second from three rides last preparation. If this five-year-old gets any luck in running as she rounds the turn, her turn of foot should put her right in the picture to take out the fourth win of her career.

Port Macquarie Cup Day racing tips & quaddie | Friday 7/10/2022
          October 6, 2022 11:17 am.

          What Port Macquarie Races
Where Port Macquarie Race Club – 283 Oxley Hwy, Port Macquarie NSW 2444
          When Friday, October 7, 2022
          First Race 1:15pm AEDT

          Visit Ladbrokes

It’s Port Macquarie Cup Day on Friday afternoon and we’ve got a competitive eight-race card to dissect as we add another contender on the list of hopefuls for The Big Dance on November 1. We currently sit on a Soft 7 track, and with some rain forecast across the region on both Thursday and Friday we think it’s likely to be racing on the Heavy range come raceday. The rail sits in the true position for the entire circuit, and we think it will be an advantage to those runners more towards the speed when turning – particularly early in the card. The first race is scheduled to jump at 1:15pm AEDT.
Port Macquarie Cup Tip: Quality Time

We don’t like using the ‘M’ word very often, but boy does this guy look hard to beat. Quality Time, trained out of the Chris Waller yard, comes to the Port Macquarie Cup in outstanding form after back-to-back dominant performances at Canterbury on September 7 and then at Rosehill on September 24. He was ultra-impressive in the latter, putting his rivals away with ease over the 1900m, and although it was a BM88 field, it had much more depth than what he’ll be seeing on Friday afternoon. He’s very adaptable and can do it on all conditions, so expect Tommy Berry to dominate his opposition from the front as he did against main rival Caboche last time. This Amaron gelding clearly has the most upside in the race and should have very little trouble kicking clear at the top of the straight with the relatively light 56kg. Expect an impressive display.

Best Bet at Port Macquarie: Charmmebaby

Charmmebaby returns to the Bob Milligan stable after spending last preparation with Lawrie Mayfield-Smith, and she looks to have turned the corner as a mare. She comes here first-up after an incredible run of form up in Queensland in some very tough races, even winning second-up at Listed grade against the likes of Kubrick and Kirwan’s Lane over the mile. She was also competitive against Group 1 company in the Tatts Tiara over 1400m on June 25, beaten 3.4 lengths by a smart multiple Group 1 winner in Snapdancer. She’s only had the one trail at Taree on September 13, but it was more than enough to say she’s come back in outstanding order. Zac Wadick takes the ride after trialling on the mare by Charm Spirit, and we expect him to find a midfield sit with some cover. On class alone she’s got to be figuring somewhere in this field at a great price with online Bookmakers.

          6yo Mare | T: Bob Milligan | J: Zac Wadick (62kg)

Best Value at Port Macquarie: Kedah

This Kris Lees-trained mare by Per Incanto looks ready to run a bold race third-up. She’s went well in tougher grade against Hope In Your Heart at Group 3 level last time, only beaten 3.25 lengths on September 16, and finds a much easier task here. She doesn’t mind the soft conditions and profiles well third-up with a record of seven starts for two wins, plus we get arguably the best wet-track jockey in NSW on board with Jason Collett taking the reins. He will sit Kedah around midfield with some cover before peeling out late down a deteriorating track, which should put the pair right in the finish for the second leg of the quaddie.

Trainer Gavin Smith holds a strong hand in this contest and can saddle the first two past the post. I’M IN LOVE is having her first run for the yard. She was outrun late when third over 1800m on the Turffontein Inside course last time. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. If settled into her new surroundings, she is capable of shedding her maiden tag.

                    Race 3: KHAYA’S HOPE (2)
Jockey: K de Melo – Trainer: G Smith

KHAYA‘S HOPE is one of the better bets on the card. He has good consistent form lines to his credit. He was running on when second over 1200m against older rivals last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He has cracked a good draw of two and may be rewarded for consistency.

                    Top Bet For Today

                    Race 4: SANTA THERESE (1)
                    Jockey: R Fourie – Trainer: A Greef

SANTA THERESE was given a peach of a ride when winning her last start over 2000m on this course. She has won three times, finished second once and third once from as many starts over this C&D. Richard Fourie retains the ride and despite her big mass of 62kgs, she should notch up her eleventh career victory.

                    Race 6: ANGEL DEB’S (4)
                    Jockey: L Mxothwa – Trainer: D McKenzie

Trainer Duncan McKenzie holds a strong hand in this contest and can saddle the first two past the post. ANGEL DEB‘S showed good speed in her last start over 1200m on this course, but was caught in the shadow of the post by Stolen Kiss. She was reported to be coughing that day. She shed her maiden tag under Luyolo Mxothwa and back over the 1000m, she may be the one to side with.

                    Value Bet For Today

                    Race 8: MISS VENEZUELA (8)
                    Jockey: M Mjoka – Trainer: J V A Strydom

MISS VENEZUELA showed good improvement in her first run for the in-form Jacques Strydom yard. She was running on when second behind Hereinafter over 1000m on this course, two weeks ago. She won her only attempt over this C&D. The cheekpieces have done the trick and she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.

                              RACE 1: MR. MARLIN (#6)

I expect Chulligan (#2) to attract plenty of support as he makes his second start. This $825k son of Justify is out of the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint winner Bar of Gold, so he’s obviously bred to be a good one. However, he looked very much like a work in progress on debut at Saratoga. He didn’t seem to be engaged early in the race when dropping to the back of the pack, and only got involved until the very late stages. However, that was a race that featured a strong pace, so he was basically picking up pieces at the end. He has a right to improve on the stretch-out to a mile, but I’m not keen to pick him at a short price. I’m more interested in runners coming out of a different race. Atlanta’s Acuna (#4) took plenty of money when he made his debut late in the Saratoga meet, but also ran a like a horse who needed the race. He broke a step slowly, rushed up to chase the pace, and then hung on his left lead while lugging in through the stretch. He strikes me as one that will improve with added ground, though I could also see him preferring turf eventually. My top pick is Mr. Marlin (#6). He finished behind Atlanta’s Acuna in that Sep. 5 affair, but he didn’t seem to put forth his best effort that day. Breaking from the rail, he just never looked to be traveling comfortably, reacting badly to kickback at a few points. We saw something similar in his debut when he dropped back on the turn before rallying strongly when angled into the clear for the stretch drive. Given that tendency to resent kickback, I like the outside post position for him. He also seems like one that should appreciate the stretch-out to a mile.

                              RACE 2: STEERAGE (#7)

Sinful Dancer (#2) must have been a frustrating project for his prior connections, as he clearly has ability but could just never put it all together. They ultimately gave up, dropping him into a $25k claimer last time. Yet he still failed to get the job done while nevertheless producing a respectable effort. Now goes first off the claim for Mertkan Kantarmaci, who switches him to back to turf here. While he did finish off the board as the favorite in his lone prior turf attempt, he got off to a poor start that day and didn’t run as badly as it seems. He’s still hard to trust as the favorite. The same goes for Martinez (#3), who showed some improvement off the claim for Rudy Rodriguez last time. Yet he’s had plenty of chances to break through at this level and just has a tendency to settle for minor awards. I’m trying to beat them with Steerage (#7). He had quite a trip on July 31 at Saratoga, as he was off slowly and then proceeded to get steadied in traffic after rushing up to chase the pace. He was again steadied in upper stretch when attempting to rally. While it may not seem like he improved at all last time, that was a much tougher spot. He was also chasing a fast pace in tandem with Heymackit’sjack, who came back to win. I think he’s capable of better than what he’s shown so far and he’s drawn well outside the other speeds.

RACE 5: BERT BERT BERT (#7)

Central Pride (#4) just seems like a logical favorite as he gets needed class relief while dropping in for a tag for the first time. I’m not sure why they ran him on turf 3 times, as he never showed much affinity for grass. All of his dirt performances against maiden special weight foes suggest he’s good enough to break through at this lower level. He was beaten by superior rivals last time out and actually finished up with some interest, suggesting a mile may be within his scope. However, John Terranova is just 3 for 31 (10%, $0.86 ROI) with maiden special weight to maiden claiming dropdowns over 5 years. I could also consider Midnight Express (#6) from that same race, as he does have some upside. He didn’t do much running after racing greenly early, but he should also appreciate the class relief, and Steve Klesaris does well with second time starters. My top pick is Bert Bert Bert (#7). This colt’s debut wasn’t actually that bad, as he was facing a pretty tough field of maiden special weight foes. He lacked early speed that day but was finishing up with some interest towards the end. He didn’t fare as well in his second start, but he was off for a long time thereafter. Since then he’s returned to run twice on turf for Charlton Baker with little to show for it. However, he’s better bred for dirt, so I like him getting back on this surface. The class relief figures to help, and I think he can finally build on his debut now that he’s spotted appropriately.

Keeneland spot plays for Oct. 7 Opening Day
                                Ashley Anderson

Racing returns to Keeneland on Friday, and all meet long TwinSpires is offering the Daily Double Down, in which you get a 50% bonus, up to $50 daily, on all winning daily double wagers if you hit at least two daily doubles on a given day.

To get you ready for opening day on Friday, Oct. 7, we provided a few spot plays for Keeneland’s 10-race card, including the Phoenix S. (G2) and Jessamine S. (G2) in Races 7 and 8.
                                Race 4: 5 1/2 furlongs, turf, three-year-olds

#2 Therideofalifetime (9-2) won by a length at Ellis Park on Aug. 27 when making his second career turf start and trying today's distance for the first time. The Candy Ride colt flashed a 91 Brisnet Speed figure in the $40,000 allowance optional claimer while stalking behind the leaders before rallying in midstretch.

The Bret Calhoun-trained four-year-old earned the second-highest last race speed rating among the field, behind only #10 One for Richie (3-1), who's a main-track-only entrant.

Calhoun is a 21% winner with horses that won their last race and a 20% allowance winner, while jockey Reylu Gutierrez is winning at a 22% rate paired with Calhoun the last two months.
Race 5: Seven furlongs, fillies and mares

#1 Golden Sights (6-1) ran one mile on turf in her last two, finishing second in both allowance races by less than a length. The Goldencents three-year-old will cut back to seven furlongs, a distance from which she has one win and a second in two career tries, and will return to the track where she broke her maiden in a seven-furlong sprint on Oct. 15 of last year.

Trainer Brad Cox, who ranked second in wins during Keeneland's spring meet, is a 23% winner with horses transitioning from a route distance to a sprint and a 30% winner switching from turf to dirt. Florent Geroux, a 20% winner paired up with Cox the last two months, will stay in the irons.
Race 7: Phoenix S. (G2), six furlongs, three-year-olds and up

#5 Sibelius (5-2) scored back-to-back victories at today's distance by a combined 11 1/4 lengths in his last two races, with a 105 Brisnet Speed figure two back in an allowance optional claimer and a 106 Speed rating in the Lite the Fuse S. on Sept. 10, good for the highest last race speed figure among the field.

The Jeremiah O'Dwyer pupil moves up in class in his second graded stakes try and posted a sharp, 34-second three-furlong workout ahead of this event, a Challenge Series qualifier for the Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1).

The Not This Time four-year-old also has one win from one start at Keeneland and will keep rider Junior Alvarado in the saddle.

The pacesetter has good early speed and with a clean break can pull off a slight upset of #2 Special Reserve (2-1), whose recent speed figures at today's distance pale in comparison to those of Sibelius.
                                Race 8: Jessamine S. (G2), 1 1/16 miles, two-year-old fillies

#12 Towhead (9-2) set the early pace in the one-mile Juvenile Fillies S. at Kentucky Downs on Sept. 3 and just missed by a nose to City of Light filly Chop Chop, who is undefeated in two career starts. The Malibu Moon daughter was nine lengths in front of the third-place finisher, C C Cruise Control, who re-opposes here.

Towhead has yet to break her maiden, but the chestnut has a chance to improve in her return to 1 1/16 miles. The two-year-old flashed a 96 Late Pace rating last out, and her 95 Speed figure is the highest last race speed figure among the field by 11 points and the fastest turf speed rating among today's rivals.

Tyler Gaffalione, who was the leading jockey at Keeneland last fall, will retain the mount in this a Challenge Series qualifier for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies' Turf (G1).

#5 Blind Spot (15-1) is an intriguing longshot to consider as well. The Saffie Joseph trainee won by three-quarters of a length in the one-mile-and-70-yard Our Dear Peggy S. on Gulfstream's Tapeta on Sept. 17 and will try grass for the first time. Joseph is a 13% winner in graded stakes and an 18% winner with shippers, while jockey Edgard Zayas strikes at an 18% rate on turf and has won 24% of his last 76 races paired with Joseph.

Blind Spot's dam, Your Flame in Me, is also a multiple stakes winner who has produced six winners, including three on turf and one stakes winner, from seven starters.
