        # 9 SEE OUT 5/1

        # 10 BOFFO KID 9/2

        # 2 KISSES FOR HANNAH 15/1

I lean toward SEE OUT here. Has to be considered - I like the figures from the last contest. Must be given a chance given the class of races run lately. He has been racing well recently while recording strong Speed Figures. BOFFO KID - This gelding has some longshot angles I like to play. Overall the speed figures of this racer look quite good in this race. KISSES FOR HANNAH - Has very good early lick and should fare solidly against this group.

          #7 RAISE A SPEIGHTS (ML=7/1)
          #2 SCINTILLIO (ML=8/1)

RAISE A SPEIGHTS - This gelding is at the top in earnings per start. Take a long look at this thoroughbred in the saddling enclosure. Just see his recent speed figure, 76. That one fits in this field. SCINTILLIO - This one has increased his speed figs in each of the last two races. That kind of progress is telling me this horse is ready.

          Vulnerable Contenders: #4 BROWN DELIVERS (ML=7/2), #8 BET ON BITZ (ML=6/1), #3 ELEAZAR (ML=8/1),

BROWN DELIVERS - This gelding is always hitting the board, but just doesn't win. Tough to play him on the top end. When scrutinizing today's class rating, he will have to garner a better speed rating than last out to be competitive in this dirt sprint. BET ON BITZ - Unlikely that the speed figure he recorded on Sep 17th will hold up in this race. ELEAZAR - This less than sharp equine hasn't been close at the finish of late.

          STRAIGHT WAGERS:
#7 RAISE A SPEIGHTS is going to be the play if we are getting 7/5 or better

            # 3 SARAH'S CANDY 6/1

            # 1 LATE DATE 5/2

            # 4 SWEETER THAN HONEY 9/2

I back SARAH'S CANDY here. The Lasix change (with second time Lasix) may spark a turnaround for this filly. She should have a strong showing versus this softer field. LATE DATE - With a reliable jockey who has won at a very good 17 percent clip over the last month. This has to be one of the top selections. This filly ought to be given a chance just off the earnings per start in dirt sprint contests alone. SWEETER THAN HONEY - The big drop in class can only help this one this time out.

#2 NEW WAYS TO DREAM (ML=8/1)

              #9 POSH PLAYDAY (ML=3/1)
              #1 ROYAL ENGAGEMENT (ML=4/1)

NEW WAYS TO DREAM - Filly's finish positions keep getting better with each race. Maybe today's the day. I took a look at this filly's finishes. She's almost always in-the-money. When the real racing starts, this filly should be finishing best of all. I like to play this handicapping angle, a horse coming back off a sharp contest within the last 30 days. Recent speed figures show solid pattern of improvement. LINGUISTIC - Hamm has this filly signed up for the perfect affair. POSH PLAYDAY - Walker and Wismer partnered up are a horse gambler's friend. This filly is in fine form. Finished first on September 14th. A repeat of that last race on September 14th where she earned a speed rating of 90 looks high enough to win in this affair. ROYAL ENGAGEMENT - This filly is the longer price of the 'split' entry from the barn of Hamm. I just may give this one a good shot. Should improve off last race where she did run out of the money, but was within five lengths at the wire. Another way to judge class is earnings per race entered. This animal has the top in the field. I think she'll be close at the end.

Vulnerable Contenders: #4 TODO SOLA (ML=6/1),

TODO SOLA - When any horse improves so much in the slop, I have to be uncertain about her next race out.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - POSH PLAYDAY - This noble animal looks good with such a big gap in the spread of the TrackMaster Power Rating between her and the second-rated horse.

              STRAIGHT WAGERS:
Have to go with #2 NEW WAYS TO DREAM on the win end if we get at least 5/1 odds

Belmont at the Big A Hotlist - October 7

                  October 6, 2022

Today’s New York Hot List races to watch – Friday, October 7, 2022
By Matt Shifman and Bob Ehalt

                  Hot List Key:
A: A preferred horse to watch B: Secondary horse to watch
*C: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 1st through 3rd
*D: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 4th or worse
                  * - 4 or more betting notches if 11-1 or more.

1st race [NY, Md Sp Wt, 1 mi] – (2) Chulligan (A) raced greenly in his debut as the favorite for Christophe Clement and finished second ahead of a horse that came back to win his next start. (4) Atlanta’s Acuna was sent off at 5-2 for his first start and ran just behind the pace most of the race a couple lengths behind the winner. (1) Quick to Accuse pressed the pace in his debut and finished in fourth behind the top choice. (6) Mr. Marlin has made two starts for Barclay Tagg both at Saratoga.

3rd race [Clm 35000 N3L, 6F] – (1) Daufuskie Island drops back into the claiming ranks following a brief layoff. He won a starter allowance against open company at Belmont Park in July. (6) Quickflash will also return to claiming races after running third in a second-level allowance for NY-breds two weeks ago where he finished third. He was second twice the last time he was in for a tag. (5) Cousin Andrew moves from turf to dirt and goes back in for a tag where he was a winner in July at Saratoga. (2) Risk Profile ran twice at Saratoga and was third in that pair of open company allowances.

4th race [Clm 30000 N2L, 1 1/16 mi TURF] – (9) Gooch Go Bragh (C) was second in a similar spot in July beating a horse that came back to win his next start while getting bet down from 8-1 to 6-1. (4) Ginnsu Warrior (B) was under heavy restraint, had to steady, and finished fourth in a similar spot at Saratoga. (7) Fast Gordon pressed the pace in his first start of 2022 which came after a year off in a tough field for a $50,000 tag. (3) Fieldstone has a third and then a second at this level in a pair of races at the Spa.

9th race [Clm 30000 N2L, 6F mi TURF] – (11) Union Dolly (C) was bet down from 9-2 to 5-2, broke awkwardly in last, and rallied to get second. (8) Smokin’ Hot Kitty broke her maiden for $40,000 and then tried a starter allowance. This N2L is an appropriate level. (5) Aunt Virginia broke her maiden on the turf and then was second in a NY-bred allowance that came off the grass. (3) Romanosa drops out of a pair of open company allowances where she was well bet and were her first American starts.

Best bets: Chulligan (1st); Daufuskie Island (3rd). Best value: Erin Go Bragh (4th); Union Dolly (9th).

                  No.

                    Hot List Key:

A : A preferred horse to watch B: Secondary horse to watch
*C: Went down 2 or more betting notches in the final 3 minutes and finished 1st through 3rd

                    * - 4 or more betting notches if 11-1 or more.

2nd race – (2) Misread returns to action after some promising efforts in the spring and looks best here. (3) Magical Act is a firster from Cox who should be a threat. (7) Scripps is a Brisset firster who seems talented. (8) Seabrook is another firster who seems to have some ability. Betting strategy: 2 to win, place. Exacta box: 2-3-7-8. Doubles: 2-3-7-8 with 1-3-4-7.

3rd race – (7) Key of Life (C) was bet down from even money to 3-5 and posted a maiden victory. Can beat winners here. (3) Looking for Hope was an impressive winner at Gulfstream and should be the main threat. (1) Crackalacking might appreciate the shorter distance here. (4) Twice as Sweet will appreciate a return to dirt. Betting strategy: 7 to win, place. Exacta box: 1-3-4-7.

7th race – (5) Sibelius exits two impressive wins and can make it three in a row here. (8) Long Range Toddy might wake up in this spot. (6) Necker Island will be a big threat in the final furlong. (1) Sir Alfred James should benefit from a rail trip. Betting strategy: 5 to win, place. Exacta box: 1-5-6-8. Doubles: 1-5-6-8 with 6-9-12-13. Pick 3: 1-5-6-8 with 6-9-12-13 with 2-4-7-9.

8th race – (6) Happy Gal was disqualified from second last time at Kentucky Downs but can bounce back here with a smooth trip. (12) Towhead fits in nicely here but drew a tough post. (9) Recognize has speed and could be tough to catch here. (13) Tax Implications can be a factor here if she escapes the also-eligible list. Betting strategy: 6 to win, place. Exacta box: 6-9-12-13. Doubles: 6-9-12-13 with 2-4-7-9.

9th race – (4) Raging Sea was a game debut winner for Brown and has the breeding that says she will handle two turns. (9) Fun and Feisty was a stakes winner at Churchill Downs and should be the one to fear. (7) Essaouira broke her maiden around two turns and figures to be a top contender. (2) Chop Chop won her two starts on turf and judging by her works should handle dirt as well. Betting strategy: 4 to win, place. Exacta box: 2-4-7-9.

                    No.

                      Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

                      Gulfstream Park - Race #1
                      Picks Notes
#5 BIG SAVE (7-2) Took money, appeared to need race, might not need another in longer sprint.
#1 FORTHELOVEOFART (9-2) Casse firster has solid work tab, sire was a multiple graded stakes-winning router.
#4 ADIOS PAPA CHICO (5-2) Chased 7-2 winner, inched closer late at 6F, beat seven first-time starters.
Race Summary BIG SAVE, forced in and relegated to the back of the pack in a well-bet debut, gained on the inside and raced willingly in the stretch. He was no match for the experienced top pair but can turn the tables on morning-line favorite ADIOS PAPA CHICO with expected improvement in his second go-round. Bet to win and place and play 5-1 and 5-4 exactas.

                      Gulfstream Park - Race #7
                      Picks Notes
#1 PERFECT PICTURE (5-1) Rough trip in repeat try, has speed and rail and improved form, price goes up.
#6 BARONE CESCO (3-1) Chased 4-wide, took aim at top pair in stretch, settled for third.
#2 PARTNER’S HOPE (2-1) Sat golden trip to beat ‘Picture’ off the claim, set to join $100k Club.
Race Summary PERFECT PICTURE was bumped at the start, dueled hard between rivals to mid-stretch, then steadied when tiring while trip-sitting winner PARTNER’S HOPE passed by. He dug in to win at this level from post 10 two back and can use his speed well from the rail in this field. Bet to win and place.

                      Gulfstream Park - Race #8
                      Picks Notes
#1 GRAN SLASH (4-1) Shook hard duel in maiden romp but not in follow-up stakes, today’s Best Bet.
#2 EYES ON THE KING (7-2) Took the money and ‘powered clear’ in final sixteenth in debut.
#5 ROLLING ON (5-2) Ran away from five first-time starters, the closest two of whom had troubled starts.
Race Summary All seven Florida-bred 2-year-olds in this $75,000 optional claimer won early, many by open lengths. GRAN SLASH caught the eye as today’s Best Bet. He had no breathers until he pulled away at the top of the stretch is his maiden claiming victory two starts back, then dueled again through a :44.89 opening half-mile before he was wrapped up in a 7F sire stakes race. Bet on him to win and place and play a 1-2 exacta box.
