Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks
Keeneland - Race #5
Picks Notes
#8 Aztec Nights She should appreciate getting back on the grass after the modest main-track try last time out, and think she should be in line for a nice trip tracking the pace with this group. Interesting on the drop.
#5 Heavenly Sunday Not sure what she beat at 7/5 in the debut run at Horseshoe Indianapolis, but she darted clear easily after pressing the splits. Interested to see how she stacks up here.
#3 Murky She was sharp on the pace in the debut win at Kentucky Downs, but I worry she's going to take a bit too much cash while stretching out and meeting some other potential forward players. Capable.
Race Summary Aztec Nights looked good in the debut win at Saratoga, but she hasn't come through with big efforts in stakes company and on the dirt in a couple follow-up starts. Wouldn't be a shock to see her bounce back here.
Keeneland - Race #6
Picks Notes
#2 Scarlet Stripe Hoping she's just playable enough here as the likely second choice, and I think her established sprint form gives her the slight edge over the talented second choice.
#4 Sunny River Seems like one of these two should be able to land this, but this one is cutting back around one turn and will have to finish from a bit off the splits while giving the top choice a big jump.
#8 Fiddle Nothing wrong with her form on the turf, and they'll see what she can do on the main track in this third start. Wouldn't argue too hard with anyone landing here and trying to beat the chalks.
Race Summary Scarlet Stripe and Sunny River both figure to get bet while bringing solid form with them, but the former moved up really well in that second career start and should be well in front of Sunny River into the turn.
Keeneland - Race #7
Picks Notes
#2 Satin Doll She might offer an okay, mid-range kind of price in here, and I'm hoping the pace will be fair enough to give her a chance to come rolling late. I liked her debut and am hoping she can bounce back here.
#6 Key of Life She's sure to get bet as the deserving choice in here after rattling off two powerhouse wins in a row, but I do have a mild concern that she has progress very quickly through those last couple starts, and maybe she's sitting on a step back here? Something like her last leaves the rest playing for second.
#3 Baby Got Backspin She is still eligible for the maiden ranks, but she's not a bad fit in here off the trio of runner-up finishes to open her career. She's one of many who will need a misfire of some sort from Key of Life, but she's a logical contender if the chalk doesn't deliver.
Race Summary Satin Doll, like the rest of them, will have her work cut out for her while facing Key of Life in here, but I think she's capable of something better than she showed last time out in stakes company at Del Mar. Better here at a price?
