1st race – (3) Red Knobs has been racing in stakes and will welcome some class relief here in a claimer. (5) Mugsy Malone won easily at Laurel and should do just fine in a tougher field. (2) Totalizer missed by a neck, though the distance is a question mark. Betting strategy: 3 to win, place. Exacta box: 2-3-5.
3rd race – (8) Partyline rallied for second last time and can work out a winning trip here. (6) Sweet Lady Ivanka could perk up on turf. (4) Quick Romance has some speed and could be troublesome on the front end. (2) Sunroof was no factor in a graded stakes but fits better here. Betting strategy: 8 to win, place. Exacta box: 2-4-6-8. Doubles: 2-4-6-8 with 4-6-8-10.
4th race – (10) Bourbon On Fire (C) dropped from 3-1 to 2-1 and finished a distant second. Could improve off the Asmussen claim. (6) C J All the Way returns to a claim and should be the main rival. (8) Scratchoff adds blinkers and could be more competitive. (4) My Favorite Uncle may benefit from the turnback in distance. Betting strategy: 10 to win, place. Exacta box: 4-6-8-10.
6th race – (8) Unifying was second in her debut and should graduate in this spot. (9) Savage Darling is a firster from McPeek who deserves attention. (4) Sirius Light is worth a look moving over to the main track. (3) Titled Lady is a firster who could be a factor. Betting strategy: 8 to win, place. Exacta box: 3-4-8-9.
8th race – (4) Ari Oakley posted a game neck victory last time and can make it two in a row here. (3) Altered Shot was no worse than second in her last five starts and should be the main rival. 2^nd race [Alw 10000s, 6F] – (7) Greeley and Ben gets enormous class relief after running fourth in the Bold Ruler (G3) last time at BAQ. He may be 8 years old but ran well in all three starts this year winning a $40,000 claimer at Saratoga and then getting second in a Laurel Park allowance. (6) Scilly Cay won for a $10,000 tag by more than 11 lengths last time on the front end and was claimed. (5) Easy Day ships up from Parx Racing where he has been in excellent form for Scott Lake and was third at this level a few races back. (5) Girl of Tosconova returned from a four month break in her first start after a claim and ran fourth behind the top choice. She has four career wins and two were at Aqueduct. (4) My Sweet Wife was a winner for a $25,000 tag in a N3L condition. (1) Vegas Weekend was third in the same race as the top two, in what was her second start following 10 months off. She improved her speed figure and her finishing position.
4^th race [Md 20000, 6F] – (9) Psychic Income was claimed for $40,000 two races back, moved up to a maiden special weight, and now moves to the lowest level in his fourth start. (7) Super Quality set the pace going a mile and now also makes the drop to $20,000. (6) Sean the Hammer comes back from a six month layoff where he missed the win by a neck at Belmont Park at this level. (3) He’sgottashortfuse returns to the barn of Jimmy Ryerson. He has some early speed and a second at Monmouth Park for a $25,000 tag two races back.
9^th race [Md Sp Wt, 1 mi TURF] – (5) Siege of Boston (A) takes the blinkers off after a trio of second-place finishes including his last start earning a career best speed figure. In that race he was wide the whole time and was probably best. (6) Celestial Moon will make his second career start for Bill Mott after running fifth at 9-1. (7) Indemnify gets blinkers on in his fourth start for Chad Brown after a pair of seconds and a third, all as the odds-on favorite. (8) Aruba will make his third start following an eight month layoff and an improved recent race.

This Thursday, the Pakenham Racing Club will host a meeting on its turf circuit for the second time in just under a week. The track is currently rated as a Soft 6, but with warm weather forecasted on Wednesday and Thursday, we expect to see an upgrade into the Good range come raceday. The rail will be in the 7m position for the entire circuit, and the first of eight races is set to get underway at 1:30pm AEDT.
Best Bet: Outback Action

Our best bet of the day comes up in the opening leg of the quaddie, where we are siding with the Peter Moody-trained Outback Action. This lightly raced four-year-old gelding has won two of his first five starts to begin his bright career. The son of Better Land has been good this preparation, winning his first-up start over 1200m at Moonee Valley and finishing fifth over 1200m at Sale, where he stepped up to Benchmark 70 grade for the first time in his career. Luke Nolen will ride this gelding on Thursday after riding him at his last two starts, and he will now know that this guy has to lead to give him the best chance of winning. If this galloper can jump from the barrier quickly and find the front, we should see him getting back to winning ways.

In the third race of the day, the Julius Sandhu-trained He’s A Legend looks to be a good bet at his third start of his career, after finishing third in a strong form race last start. This son of Snitzel has only had the two starts in his short career, and in those starts he has only raced on a Heavy track, finishing second and third, but overall not looking very comfortable in the rain-affected going. Craig Newitt has ridden this galloper at both of his starts so far and has pushed forward on each occasion, so if He’s A Legend jumps well from barrier one on Thursday, we could see him take up the lead and kick away on the bend in a bid to break his maiden.

Horse Racing picks for Delta Downs race track on Thursday, November 10: Diablo Cat is a live 'dog

8:15 pm Delta Downs (Race 6) – Bordeaux Red 15/1 (1-star play)

Race 6 at Delta Downs is an open looking $35,000 Allowance over 7 furlongs on the dirt and an outsider who can hit the board at big odds here is Bordeaux Red who is lightly-raced and could have more to come. He finished third in a Maiden on his only start at this course and should strip much fitter for two runs in his grade at Louisiana Downs recently so it would not surprise should he make a bold showing from stall four.
8:43 pm Delta Downs (Race 7) – Fish N Chick 3/1 (2-star play)

A field of 10 fillies and mares go to post for this five furlong Claimer and they all have to go some to beat the filly in stall nine, Fish N Chick, who has won in this grade and has been running well in recent starts. Her last three form figures read 322 with her latest run being over an extended six furlongs at this course, whilst giving the impression this step back to five furlongs will suit, and I like her chances in this.
9:11 pm Delta Downs (Race 8) – Diablo Cat 6/1 (1-star play)

The penultimate event at Delta Downs is a very competitive Allowance in which a case can be made for most of this field but it can pay to side with Diablo Cat who is a two-time course and distance winner. Donald Melancon’s Chestnut gelding should be on the pace early here under regular rider Daniel Flores and if they get out of the gates and into a nice rhythm on the front end then his rivals could all be playing for places.
9:41 pm Delta Downs (Race 9) – Confess 5/2 (2-star play)

Confess is likely to go off favorite for the finale at Delta Downs, which is another Claiming contest over an extended six furlongs, and it’s clear to see why as he ran with great credit when finishing mid-division over course and distance last time and he should come on from that. He is the oldest horse in this field but with that comes experience and on his best form he can have a big say in this weak contest which looks there for the taking for him.

Aqueduct Horses in Focus for Thursday, November 10

RACE 3: SUSPENDED CAMPAIGN (#2)

Three of the major players in this race faced in the Oct. 28 race at this level. Blue Paynt (#6) achieved the best result that day, but she also looked like the weakest of the three contenders coming into that affair. It’s possible that she’s just improved off the trainer switch to Mertkan Kantarmaci, brother of former trainer Ilkay. However, she also got a pretty good trip last time, despite a mildly slow start. Vegas Weekend (#1) has the best overall credentials, but it feels like she could go favored here off past accomplishments. She was pretty dull in that Oct. 28 affair and may not be the same horse since returning from a lengthy layoff. The horse who might have run best in that common race is Girl of Tosconova (#5), who was buried inside taking kickback for much of the race, and was tentatively ridden when pinned to the rail in the late stages. However, she has the same rider on board here. I’m going in a different direction with Suspended Campaign (#2). The lack of pace in this race is a concern for her, since she does her best running late. However, I don’t want to get too caught up in pace scenarios with a filly who has run well going a mile over this Aqueduct course before. I won’t be too hard on her for a couple of losses in the mud earlier this year, since she’s better on dry going. She returned from a layoff last time with a solid effort behind the superior Tizzy in the Sky, doing well to be the solid allowance performer Wasp. This is a drop in class and the price should be fair enough.

RACE 8: BLAME IT ON MARY (#7)

The early pace in this race could depend on Towering Orbit (#3) actually getting out of the gate, something that she’s struggled with in her last few starts. She was able to rush up after a slow start last time, but that could be difficult breaking from an inside draw. Both halves of the Christophe Clement entry would be hoping for some pace to develop. Derrynane (#1) comes in with more impressive credentials, but she’s been off form in her last few starts against open stakes foes. This is a significant drop in class for her, but I’m skeptical that she she’ll deliver a top performance. I would actually prefer her stablemate drawn on the AE list, Kokopelli (#1A). I admit that I’ve never been this filly’s biggest fan, but I thought she ran better than it might appear last time when closing into a slow pace in a race dominated up front. Yet there are others to consider who figure to be more enticing prices. Palace Gossip (#6) is a candidate to appreciate a turnback in distance after trying to stretch out around two turns in a pair of starts at Saratoga. I did expect her to run better the last time she sprinted in July, but perhaps the return to her preferred 6-furlong distance will suit her. My top pick is Blame It On Mary (#7), who may not get the respect she deserves due to her muddled form lines. However, if you ignore the dirt races and a strange race in July at Saratoga, all of her only turf performances make her a major player in here. She put in the best effort of her career to win over this course in September, and would be competitive here with a similar effort, even as she steps up to a tougher level. I also like that she’s drawn well outside of some other speed in a race that may not feature as fast a pace as it appears on paper.

RACE 9: SEIGE OF BOSTON (#5)

I see two legitimate win candidates in this maiden special weight event that closes out the day, and I much prefer the one who figures to be a bigger price. Indemnify (#7) may take more money given the power of his connections. He’s been the odds-on favorite in all three starts, twice as part of a coupled entry. However, he’s failed to get the job done for Chad Brown, and it’s usually a red flag when horses continue to lose at short prices for this barn. Last time out he finished behind today’s rival Seige of Boston (#5), and there’s no doubt his Jimmy Toner rival ran the better race. Seige of Boston was breaking from the outside post position in a 10-horse field, and his rider never made any attempt to get near the rail. He raced 4-wide around the first turn and proceeded to make his move while 3-wide on the far turn. He actually did well to challenge for the lead in midstretch before getting turned away by early leader Steady On, who came back to win with a 116 TimeformUS Speed Figure. Now he takes the blinkers off, which should allow him to settle a bit better, something that has been a problem for the horse in the past. If he runs back to his most recent performance, I don’t believe Indemnify will be able to turn the tables on him.

#1A Atone has a shot to get loose on the lead in this spot today, while also taking a big drop down in class. He has no excuse in this spot. #5 Lonesome Fugitive also gets some class relief after taking on grade 3 company in his last start. He won at this level two starts back at Monmouth Park.

#3 Merger of Equals has the speed figures to match up with this group today, while she should enjoy the stretch out in distance. #1 Raining Candy takes a nice drop down in class today, while also moving over to the dirt, which might be needed after several poor turf efforts.

Race 8: Allowance Optional Claiming

#1 Derrynane drops back down to the allowance ranks today after several close finishes against stakes company. She also will be facing New York breds for the fist time since her debut race. #3 Towering Orbit was close at this level last time out, losing by less than a length. Look for another solid effort today.

Race 9: Maiden Special Weight

#5 Siege of Boston has finished second in three straight starts coming into this race today. It could be the right spot for him to break through with a win. #7 Indemnify has looked like the horse to beat in three straight starts; however, he has come up short in all of them. He once again looks tough in this spot.

Al Cimaglia: Rosecroft Raceway Potomac Pace Pick 4 Analysis

Rosecroft Raceway has a big 14-race card ready to begin at 7:15 EST. The headliner rolls in Race 11, the Potomac Pace Invitational with a $125,000 purse. The 0.50 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 9. The Pace is the third leg, and the sequence will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 9

2-Arts Attitude (5/2)-Winless in 8 starts this year, came off the bench on 10-13 and has raced well after an initial break in stride. This is the 4th start for the Andrews barn and it looks like a prime spot for the 1st win at RcR and the 1st picture of the year.
3-Bonnie Ben Rockin (3-1)-Was off almost 3-weeks before the last start and was handled conservatively. Stayed inside until the last 1/4 and rallied to finish 4th. Maybe it was the game plan for that night, but this should be different. No one is going off at 1/5 in this field and controlling the mile.
8-Turn Me Loose (10-1)-Makes the 2nd start for the Kiel barn and raced much better than the line looks on 11-3. Lagged the gate by a couple of lengths at the start, then was parked for 5/8's of a mile and still went by 2 horses down the lane. Should be a large price.

Race 10

4-Fantastic Voyage (3-1)-Tries hard and now drops to a more comfortable level. The Callahan barn has been cold but may have found a beatable field.
6-Costello (9/2)-Will need a better trip than in last but comes off a game try. Left and was jammed up at the start, then pulled 1st over, ended up following dull cover and needed to go 3 wide down the lane to finish 3rd. Will respect chances off that effort.

Race 11

5-Tattoo Artist (2-1)-The question is who will have the lead this speedy Chris Ryder trainee or the morning line chalk Allywag Hanover. They should be racing at the top of the stack and if they easily fall into place 1-2, one of them will likely win. My take is Dunn will find a way to get it done.
6-Leonidas A (8-1)-Remember these fractions, (25.1/52.4) were the panels for the opening half when at the time, this dead game closer won the Pace in 2020. My thinking is for the same to happen tonight, someone must push the pace in the same way. If This Is The Plan launches from the outside like Stars Align A did in 2020 and the pace is blistering Leonidas should be flying down the lane at a price. If not, the one above and Allywag Hanover could be stalking each other and battling for top honors at the wire.

Race 12

1-Can't Beach That (4-1)-Has been on a win every other race pattern and did take a picture in his last start. It should be noted the 2 times this 6-year-old has lost since 9-29 he finished 2nd. This will be the 1st time drawing the rail in a long time, and it shouldn't hurt chances.
4-Wild Wild Western (7/2)-Parker trainee has been facing Open Handicap company at the Meadows and should fit nicely here. Yannick Gingras will be between the pipes and it's likely he will be gunning for the top.
5-Bettor Than Spring (3-1)-Dexter Dunn will do the steering for the Corey Kreiser Nfld invader. This is the tepid morning line chalk and has banked over $158,000 this year. Has been the model of consistency hitting the board in 28 of 36 with 11 pictures. Has the gate speed to be forwardly placed and is usually right there at the wire. Has finished worse than 2nd only two times in the last 12 starts, and this will be the 1st appearance at RcR.

#7 Twelve Sharp She didn't have the easiest go in the debut trip, but she never got involved at all and now returns with a drop in price for this second start. Seems good that Florent signs on for this after the flat try?
#13 Lily's Home She'll need a scratch to get in this one, but she might be a decent enough fit with this kind if she gets to race. The Indiana form is decent and suggests the drop back in for a tag might work in her favor.
#1 Bogey Free She chased briefly in the Ellis debut before going the wrong way, but maybe she shows a bit of pace from the inside and sticks around for a piece while getting in for a tag in this second start.
Race Summary They didn't seem to have high expectations for Twelve Sharp when debuting her for $30,000, and she's down for $20,000 in this second career start after showing little. Maybe the drop, a rider upgrade, and a cleaner start give her a chance to show something quite a bit better this time around?

Churchill Downs - Race #3
Picks Notes
#4 Quick Romance She has never secured a relatively easy lead, and there is at least a chance she does so for the first time with this group. She has obviously been really dicey in the lane through four starts, but maybe she finds an easier lead and doesn't have to work so hard for it today?
#8 Partyline Reliable finisher has carried her races with her to several tracks already, and she might be just tactical enough to adapt to a race that doesn't appear to have a ton of pace in it.
#6 Sweet Lady Ivanka She'd look like a threat on either surface, and she has some proven dirt form if this comes over to the main. That said, she has been landing underneath slices while not really putting a scare into any winners, so I wouldn't want to be here to at too short a price if she starts taking action.
Race Summary Quick Romance has never stayed well, but she has some price appeal here while potentially finding a softer lead than she has been used to arguing for early in her races. Why not?

Churchill Downs - Race #6
Picks Notes
#6 Tamara's Way She'll obviously need better here than she showed in the even run after the tricky debut break, but I love the fact she was back with a solid work just 10 days later and is now wheeled right back to race just a week after that. Crunching the numbers, Bejarano is known to be able to bring a price horse home here at this level, and the barn is 2-for-5 with maiden claiming to special weight risers in the last few years. Lots to like, but also worth noting Keeneland to Churchill horses on similar hikes like this are 0-for-35 the last couple years, so get a price.
#4 Sirius Light She showed a little versatility in her running style in those turf races at Saratoga, and she's probably worth another look on the main considering her only previous start here came in the debut run. Probably the most likely winner here.
#8 Unifying No complaints about the New York debut, and she figures in line for a really good trip while tracking the splits in here again. Dangerous with any upside.
Race Summary I'd expect to see another decent effort from #7 Happysecret, too, but Tamara's Way has some appeal for me while stepping up in class for this one. She's sure to get overlooked.
