I don't think Mid-American Conference teams get enough respect in non-league matchups like this.
Miami of Ohio is stronger defensively than Marshall, shoots 84.3 percent from the free throw - seventh-best in the country - and is home.
Marshall has failed to cover in 10 of its past 14 road games.
I would make this matchup more of a pick so taking this many points is a bonus and gets me in action here.
The Key: The VCU Rams are going to be one of the best teams in the Atlantic 10 this year. They did suffer an upset loss to Arizona State last night, but that's why we are getting them at such a cheap price tonight as only 3.5-point favorites. They take on a rebuilding Pitt team that was just blasted by Michigan 91-60 last night. That came after getting blasted 81-56 at home by West Virginia the game prior. The Panthers are 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games overall. The Rams are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games off a loss. Take VCU.
Thursday CBB Free play. My selection is on South Carolina State plus the points over Kentucky at 7 pm et on Thursday.
I understand the reasoning behind the line move in support of Kentucky here. After all, most expect the Wildcats to bounce back in a big way off that double-overtime loss to Michigan State in a national spotlight game two nights ago. To me, the call is simple here. In two previous 'layup' spots against Howard and Duquesne to open the campaign, we saw Kentucky allow 67 and 66 field goal attempts - not exactly suffocating defense. At the same time, the Wildcats shot about as well as you could have envisioned, knocking down 34 and 28 field goals in those two games, respectively, yet still won by 'only' 32 and 25 points. South Carolina State has managed to get off 64, 64 and 67 FG attempts through its first three contests, knocking down a respectable 28, 23 and 26 of those shots - all in an underdog role, as is obviously the case here. There's a common opponent between these teams already this season. South Carolina State lost by 25 against Duquesne while as I mentioned, Kentucky won by 25. That alone leads to a severely inflated line here in my opinion. Take South Carolina State.
