Al Cimaglia: Meadowlands Late Pick 4 Analysis

    November 26, 2022 | By Al Cimaglia
Tonight, marks the end of the Grand Circuit season and the Meadowlands has a 14-race, star studded card scheduled. There will be eight big money stakes which include the final race for the great Bulldog Hanover. The 0.50 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 10. The sequence has a $75,000 guaranteed pool with a 15% takeout, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

    Race 10

4-Bulldog Hanover (1/5)-Understandably this will be the last race for the amazing Bulldog Hanover, although I wish it weren't so. At the top of my list of all-time greats is Niatross and Somebeachsomewhere. Bulldog is in the conversation for all-time greats and with a clean trip he should post his 28th win in 36 starts. As has often been the case we will be watching the timer to see how fast Bulldog can go.

    Race 11

4-Ammo (3-1)-Last week my take was this Joe Holloway trainee would race well but not win. The winner Combustion had a qualifier the week before, took advantage of a nice trip and was a little better down the lane. Dave Miller accomplished what was needed, and he usually seems to save something for a Final. Should be a bigger threat to win tonight with a recent start under his belt.
5-El Rey (6-1)-This is another who comes off a solid prep for the Final and was flying late with a 54.1 last half. Zeron will have this Alagna pupil cranked up a bit sooner and could catch the leaders if there is an honest pace. Looks worthy of a swing, should be a solid price and will use over Combustion (6) who tries Lasix for the 1st time.

    Race 12

4-Mark Witha K (9/2)-Has raced near the top of the stack in both recent tries here but faded in the late going versus better. Should fit nicely with this crew and Miller can work a smooth trip from this starting sopt.
6-King Triton A (7/2)-Aussie invader was just edged out at the wire at PcD in his 1st US start. The Jen B trainee now tries Lasix for the 2nd time and shouldn't have any issues on the big track. Did post a 151.3 qualifier at M1 with a 26.4 last panel on 11-12.
7-Literl Lad Hanover (8-1)-Was behind a wall of horses down the lane last week and had nowhere to go. Drops to a more comfortable spot and Siegelman should be more aggressive. Came a close 2nd in 149.3 in the previous start and best to respect chances versus this group.
8-Rockin The Aces (3-1)-Has been in the hunt but couldn't close the deal versus better. This is another who drops to a spot to shine, and Dunn can have the 5-year-old in the mix at the wire.

    Race 13

1-Control Heaven (7/2)-Lands in the softest spot in quite a while and was Tetrick's choice over the 2-6-8. Has sub 1.50 speed and my guess is the pedal will be down and will try to make every call a winning one.
3-Letsgotobrazil A (3-1)-This looks like the main player, has won 2 of 5 starts at M1 and can get the job done coming off cover. Won, then finished a close 2nd last week here and was the betting favorite in both starts. Todd McCarthy will steer again, won't offer any value but could be sitting on a big try.

    0.50 Late Pick 4

    4/4,5/4,6,7,8/1,3

Frank Carulli: Laurel Park Pick 4 Analysis Saturday, Nov. 26

      November 26, 2022 | By Frank Carulli
LAUREL PARK LATE PICK 4 ANALYSIS
      Saturday, November 26

Laurel Park will serve up a post-Thanksgiving Day feast with three, $100,000 stakes races on its Saturday, Nov. 26 card. Players at 1/ST BET and Xpressbet will play for an additional $5,000 in the Hit & Split promotion in this sequence. The stakes drew an average field size of 12 and are part of a 50-cent Late Pick 4 that looks like this:

LRL 6th race (2:56 EST) -- Get through this crowded field in the $100,000 Safely Kept Stakes and you could be on your way to a lucrative Pick 4 payout. LAST LEAF won three consecutive minor stakes – two at today’s 7F distance – but finished out of the money in a pair of graded stakes since then. She met the likes of multimillionaire Echo Zulu, multiple G-II winner Wicked Halo and multiple G-I-placed Tarabi and should sit an ideal trip with first-time Lasix. DIVINE HUNTRESS, the closest pursuer of millionaire and 1-to-5 winner Matareya, finished second in the Grade I Acorn Stakes but turned in a dull follow-up try around two turns at Charles Town. NOVEMBER REIN stalked a contested pace 4-wide after a bumpy start, got first run on the favorites and dug in for a 19-1 upset against NY-breds in the Iroquois Stakes. She will retain plenty of betting value in this spot. SWAYIN TO AND FRO won ‘in hand’ and ‘ridden out’ and handily during a 6-for-9 run on the main track this year. She ran on short rest when third in an allowance but starts fresh today.

LRL 7th race (3:27 EST) -- NIMITZ CLASS has five wins in his last eight starts on conventional dirt and overcame a stumbled start to finish second in the 7F Concern Stakes at Laurel, finishing ahead of Scarmouche, who came back to win three in a row, including the G-II Gallant Bob at Parx from post 13. UNDERCOVER KITTY has shown steady progress, could be well-suited to stalk a fast pace on the cutback from several long-distance tests and should be used as a price play in the $100,000 City of Laurel Stakes. RADICAL RIGHT will be undervalued after he benefited from a fast pace to win back-to-back allowances, but he could sit a similar trip and is hard to leave off the ticket in his current form.

LRL 8th race (3:58 EST) -- OURNATIONONPARADE won the Maryland Million Classic in his first start at 1-1/8 miles and first for a high-percentage new-acquisition barn. He patiently tracked the pace while 4-wide, cruised past the longshot leader on the final turn and widened when asked for stretch run. He is today’s solo play to make it five wins in a row in the $100,000 Richard Small Stakes.

LRL 9th race (4:29 EST) – ALL WORKED UP has speed, a solid work tab for her return and was last seen fading against runner-up Patria, who won a turf allowance at Aqueduct last Saturday. ART I SOMETHING held second in a turf-to-dirt sprint won by a 4-to-5 first-time starter in MSW company two back. BACKSTREET AFFAIR lures leading jockey Jeiron Barbosa for a 26-percent new-acquisition barn and makes the ticket as a result. KRONE offered only a ‘mild response’ in a well-bet debut and is worth using at an inflated price.

      Suggested 50-cent Ticket

      LRL 6th Race: 1, 8, 9, 11
      LRL 7th Race: 5, 6, 11
      LRL 8th Race: 1
      LRL 9th Race: 3, 5, 6, 7

      COST: $24

        Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

        Fair Grounds - Race #7
#1 Dowagiac Chief He's coming off a string of stakes tries with a few decent runners in the company lines, and he has a chance to be tough here while right up on the splits if somehow the weather cooperates.
#3 Sailing Solo He's a forward threat while racing off the bench, but he hasn't been seen since January 2021, so this is a tough ask off the long break. That said, he could probably control the tempo if they left him in on the main track here -- dirt choice.
#2 Spooky Channel He's got plenty of class to him, but this one-mile trip is probably a bit too sharp for him to show his best. Obvious contender, but I'll let him beat me on class.
Race Summary Dowagiac Chief has some appeal if this stays on the turf with some back running lines that interest with these, and Sailing Solo would be the choice if they left him to race on the main track, as he has some decent main-track far back in his running lines.
        Fair Grounds - Race #8
#5 Tease Me Not He might go a bit under the radar in a spot with some big-name barns sending runners out, and this team has been known to bring a livewire or two over the years.
#8 Vivaciously Firster goes for a top team with a big pedigree out of multiple Grade III winner Terra Promessa, and I imagine the price is going to reflect that.
#6 Bank on It I typically like these second-timers who got a first start at Delta, and this filly turned in a nice finishing effort there at first asking. Barn doesn't hit with a lot of 2-year-old MSW sprint types, though.
Race Summary Tease Me Not might be ready to roll here, and you can get a good look at him on the track and tote ahead of this one. Hoping the presence of barns like Faucheux, Asmussen and Stidham will keep the price honest.
        Fair Grounds - Race #9
#8 Lead Me Price won't be anything here, but I think she's probably pretty tough with this group while turning back on the main track. There are not many with finishing ability lined up today, and she's probably tough to hold off late.
#2 Mrs. Necaise Think she has some price appeal to get in the frame with the top choice, as she ran a couple one-paced races here last season and might grind her way along here to stick for a piece at a nice number.
#5 Honeysuckledelight She occasionally passes a few horses and might be able to come along late for a piece of this, but so far her form has been better at Delta than it has been over the local footing. Capable.
Race Summary Lead Me should be a handful in the finale after trying much better in Kentucky in recent starts, and I'm not sure anyone here can outfinish her if she fires today.

          Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

          Gulfstream Park - Race #1
#8 GRAND ROCK (7-2) Duplicate of sprint debut puts him up close throughout.
#2 RED GUN (6-1) Debuts for high-percentage duo; dam was 20/3-5-4, stakes placed and earned $188k.
#7 GOTTA GO GATOR (5-2) Posted competitive speed figs in MSW ranks but has yet to finish in money.
Race Summary GRAND ROCK chased the MSW-dropping winner through fast fractions in his debut, then backed up readily going a route of ground in his second start. He takes a magnified class drop in a suspect field and can use his speed well from an outer post. Bet to win and place.
          Gulfstream Park - Race #2
#7 ROYAL KITTEN (7-5) Delgado claim won the front-end battle but lost the war to a deep closer at 3-to-5 odds.
#2 BOBBY’S GIFT (9-2) Overcame wide trip to edge away at 7F off similar rest between starts.
#6 FULTON STREET (5-2) Has speed and a recent win at this level, needs alert break with new pilot.
Race Summary ROYAL KITTEN added blinkers, emerged from a three-way battle with the lead on the final turn and led until the early trailed caught up in the final yards. He returns in the same spot for another top-notch claim barn and can reward his loyal backers with a victory. Bet to win and place.
          Gulfstream Park - Race #5
#2 EL DE LEO (6-1) Can use speed wisely with alert start from post 2, offers good value.
#3 BUDDHA BOY (5-1) Beaten favorite at 1 mile 70 yards in debut, steps up off the claim.
#4 WINOOSKI (4-1) Hit board at 22-1 and 33-1, appears rounding to another good effort.
Race Summary EL DE LEO, plagued by wide trips from outer posts, raced close-up from an inner post in a shorter sprint at this level. He doesn’t always break cleanly but, if he does, could land in a pace-controlling role at 7F. Play a 2-ALL exacta.

CF (199) NOTRE DAME VS (200) USC
                                Take: (199) NOTRE DAME
Reason: USC looks to break a four-game losing streak to Notre Dame here on Saturday. Both teams come into this game strong. USC rejuvenated under HC Lincoln Riley and looks forward to next week's PAC-12 Championship game. The Trojans also poised to get into the College football playoff picture. However, standing in their way is their rivals from South Bend, Notre Dame. USC is ranked 6th in the Playoff rankings with two more games before the final four are announced. Notre Dame is 8-3, but after a slow start the Irish have won weight of their last nine games including a big win over Clemson. The Irish are 15th in the Playoff rankings and a win by USC would be bolstered by the Irish ranking. Notre Dame has beaten the Trojans four straight, but his is no longer Brian Kelly's team. The question is whether USC is looking past the Irish to next week's PAC-12 Championship in Las Vegas. USC had their hands full last week with rivals UCLA, just getting by the Bruins, 48-45. This looks to be a great game and for me, I'm taking the points with the Irish. Your free play is on Notre Dame.
