World Cup Thursday Free Pick Germany -2.5 -115 vs Costa Rica @ 2 ET - Really like Germany here as a win keeps their hopes alive as they would then advance if Spain beats Japan. That said, the line is just too pricey for me to go to premium level on this one. I do feel Germany will win by 3 goals but would have preferred the ability to get this at a -2 on the goal line. That said, this is still worth a look as Costa Rica just does not have attacking power and the attacking prowess of the favorites will be on full display here and will be the difference. Jack's Free Pick Thursday: Youngstown State -1
The Youngstown State Penguins are off to a 5-2 SU & 5-1 ATS start this season. They did have a bad loss at Navy, but only lost by 7 at Notre Dame as double-digit dogs. I like this team as they are an offensive juggernaut scoring 83.9 points per game on 49.9% shooting, including 38% from 3-point range and 73.9% from the FT line. Northern Kentucky is down this season. The Norse are 3-4 SU & 1-5 ATS this season with two of their wins coming against UC-Clermont and Tennessee Tech by 8 as a double-digit favorite. They did upset Cincinnati at home, but they also lost at home to Kent State by 22, to Florida Gulf Coast by 21, to Toledo by 13 and to UT-Arlington by 4. They haven't played a true road game yet this season despite the awful start.
I don't see how the Norse are going to keep up offensively in this one. They average just 68.7 points per game, shoot 43.2% from the field, 33.1% from 3-point range and only 63.2% from the FT line. The Norse have only been slightly better defensively than the Penguins, too.
The Penguins are 6-1 ATS in their last seven games overall. Northern Kentucky is 1-11 ATS in its last 12 games following a non-conference game. The Norse are 3-12 ATS in their last 15 games after failing to cover the spread in two consecutive games. Bet Youngstown State Thursday.Comment
