DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Wednesday, February 1, 2023
            DRF Staff

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook; something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day's action.

12:10 GP 1st PILLBOX (#4, 7-2) ran sneaky good in debut on dirt now switches to grass and is kin to a couple of previous inner winners. Lures Irad. Might get brave if setting up shop on front end on the stretch out. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

12:58 TAM 2nd DRILL'S VALENTINE (#6, 5-1) didn't break all that well in that last one but she showed late interest and she galloped out nicely past the wire; makes her third start off the extended layoff and may be set for her best today. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

1:08 GP 3rd ISLAND MAGIC (#2, 7-2) back in familiar hands, defeat DRINKS ON ME rather easily two back, might just do so again with the right trip. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:08 GP 5th CRIMSON PRINCESS (#10, 9-2) finished strong after some early issues, getting shuffled back to last vs. same kind in turf bow. Galloped out like a gal who'd prefer more distance. Might offer a little value in wide open mix. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:47 TAM 6th A PERFECT SET (#9, 20-1) is certainly a bit of a reach, coming off a 5 Beyer, but she had a legit race flow excuse in that race and the sprint two back was a race that came up fast; worth a shot against a seemingly average field. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:50 TUP 2nd COASTLINE HOTTIE (#3, 8-1) is by a 1 for 2 debut sire. Her dam went 19-3-5-4 and earned 54K. Both sibs won including a multiple winner of 65K (stakes winner). Lots and lots of works can only help. The leading rider gets a leg up which is a plus. This filly is a February bred so she has an age advantage over most of these. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:15 TAM 7th PAPA JIMMY (#8, 10-1) was well off the board in his latest but that was a dirt sprint, and the turf route he was in two back wasn't all that bad an effort, as he showed some late foot while not being asked, as it was clear he wouldn't get a check; no threat in prior turf try back in December but he ran into some traffic early and was caught off the pace in a race where the speeds ended up dominating. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:45 TAM 8th LORD BERRIER (#7, 6-1) was never able to threaten in his latest but he also didn't really have all that much room to run, as he was stuck down inside the entire trip, and the fact that he galloped out with some purpose suggest he didn't get to show his best late kick there; worth another chance at a decent price. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

5:16 TUP 7th STANFORD INDIANS (#10, 8-1) has beat zero home in his two starts to date but still resides in a 24% barn. This guy is stuck outside but he showed speed last out and now adds more ground. He has to gun, right? Team Silva Jr is 29% sprint to route. We like that this horse puts races together for the first time. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

5:44 TUP 8th TOP REFERENCES (#5, 8-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Scott Ehlers).

              (Wednesday, February 01, 2023)

              Race 1: #9 Heavenly Thought, #11 Travel Glory, #7 Viva A La, #6 Euromissile
Race 2: #5 Loyal Ambition, #8 Fortune Triple, #1 Dazzling Fellow, #3 Glorious Lover
Race 3: #10 Packing Monkeyking, #4 Baby, #3 Villa Fionn, #7 Young Life Forever
Race 4: #5 Copartner Fionn, #4 Chill Chibi, #2 Viva Popcorn, #8 Packing Succeeder
Race 5: #3 Solar Partner, #5 Mr Fun, #2 Kokushi Musou, #8 Oversubscribed
Race 6: #1 Tianchi Monster, #9 Samarkand, #4 Rocket Spade, #2 Prime Minister
Race 7: #7 Righteous Arion, #3 Mega Bonus, #5 King Eccellente, #2 Compassion Super
              Race 8: #9 Sugar Sugar, #5 Humble Star, #11 Howdeepisyourlove, #1 Adios
Race 9: #3 Armour Eagle, #7 Gold Gold Baby, #1 Excellent Peers, #11 Science Patch

              Race 1: Bowen Handicap
#9 Heavenly Thought is improving with each run this season, suggesting that a win is just around the corner. He draws ideally here and should get his chance to roll over the top of this group. #11 Travel Glory has shown he is capable of winning. Still, he’s yet to do so but is favoured with no weight on his back from gate one. #7 Viva A La has caught the eye of Alexis Badel. He improved last time out and does appear capable of taking another step forward here. #6 Euromissile is racing well and is worth consideration.

              Race 2: Morrison Hill Handicap
Angus Chung gets another chance aboard #5 Loyal Ambition. Expect this horse to lead as he did last time and with gate one he should be able to do so easily. He’ll take running down with the 10lb apprentice claim in use. #8 Fortune Triple is racing well and did manage a close-up third last time out. He can improve once more. #1 Dazzling Fellow is racing with plenty of merit in this grade. Strong booking of Hugh Bowman ensures his chance. #3 Glorious Lover is improving and has shown he has what it takes. Keep safe.

Race 3: Oi Kwan Handicap (2nd Section)
#10 Packing Monkeyking has the class and ability, however, he just needs to know how to use it all at once. Last start he let rip like he was going to win but instead managed to cause a bit of interference. Even still, he’s worth taking another chance on as he clearly has the ability. #4 Baby does some of his best racing under Karis Teetan. He’s drawn ideally. #3 Villa Fionn can contend. Expect he takes closer order here from barrier two. #7 Young Life Forever is racing well and can fight out another finish.

Race 4: Oi Kwan Handicap (1st Section)
#5 Copartner Fionn was solid over the closing stages last start. Expect he can take another step forward here and his pairing with Hugh Bowman is a big plus. #4 Chill Chibi caught the eye on debut when flashing into second at 60/1. He draws a touch more awkward this time but his first-out effort is hard to ignore. #2 Viva Popcorn loves the course and distance. The 10lb apprentice claim from Angus Chung will help. #8 Packing Succeeder is next best. He was impressive on debut when third.

Race 5: Stubbs Handicap (2nd Section)
#3 Solar Partner rattled home to finish an impressive third last time out. He can take another step forward here and he’s favoured with Silvestre de Sousa retaining the ride. #5 Mr Fun is racing well and can reverse his fortune after finishing 11th last time out. He’s much better than that and it clearly isn’t a worry as Hugh Bowman is with him again. #2 Kokushi Musou was sharp when second last time out. #8 Oversubscribed can mix his form but does boast a powerful finish on his day. He’s closing in on another win.

Race 6: Volunteers’ Challenge Cup Handicap
#1 Tianchi Monster steps back to Class 3. He does some of his best racing in this grade and his effort three runs ago over the course and distance – and in this class – was excellent. #9 Samarkand has mixed his form so far but there must be a certain level of expectation regarding him as he’s been well backed on occasions. #4 Rocket Spade can take another step forward here. Hugh Bowman sticks aboard; he’s a winner in waiting. #2 Prime Minister has claims. The inside draw bodes well for his chances.

Race 7: Stubbs Handicap (1st Section)
#7 Righteous Arion is doing everything right except win. He’s proving to be quite a consistent customer and the inside gate should ensure his chance. #3 Mega Bonus will need to cross the field if he is to lead again, which he may well do. The 10lb apprentice claim will be a big, big help. #5 King Eccellente is in a rich vein of form with two wins from his last two starts. He gets another shot in Class 4 which could prove decisive over the concluding stages. #2 Compassion Super can go on with it again. Next best.

Race 8: Tin Lok Handicap (2nd Section)
#9 Sugar Sugar rises to Class 3 but he has shown previously that he does appear capable of competing in this grade. Expect he can do exactly that here with the light weight and inside gate. #5 Humble Star appears to have a nice future and the booking of Silvestre de Sousa bears close watching. #11 Howdeepisyourlove is in superb form. He was competitive last start at his first try in Class 3. He can take another step forward here with his development. #1 Adios knows what it’s all about. He’ll be fighting out the finish.

Race 9: Tin Lok Handicap (1st Section)
#3 Armour Eagle was strong through the line last start when winning in this grade. He draws ideally here and if he gets a cheap run throughout then he should get every chance to go back-to-back. #7 Gold Gold Baby is looking for a fifth win this term. He draws the right gate and his rise looks far from over. #1 Excellent Peers has to overcome a wide gate and hefty weight. This will challenge him but Zac Purton is the one aboard. #11 Science Patch has the right form and he should get the right run. Next best.

Free Horse Racing Tips Today – Wednesday, February 1, 2023

We have studied the form from all races across the country for Wednesday, February 1, and provided our best horse racing tips.

A pinch and a punch for the first day of the month would certainly be better than the kick in the guts we copped Saturday.

Three scratchings on race morning after many hours of pouring over the form, then a $1.60 pop scratched behind the gates, which just left us with Forbidden Love, in the feature Expressway Stakes.

If 4 out of 5 failing to make it to the gates wasn’t bad enough, the dual Group 1 winning mare that was the hope of the side went awful, pulling up 4 out 5 lame and has since been retired to stud.

That is racing as they say, and they are on again next Saturday, but in the meantime we will do our best and hope for a change of luck at a respectable midweek card across the three eastern state meetings of Canterbury, Warnnambool, and Doomben.

We have made five selections in total and are confident that we have found you some winners! So, read on below to find our best horse racing tips for this Wednesday, February 1.
                Canterbury, Race 1 – 4. The Little Pumper ($2.25)

The +8m rail and a very gloomy forecast for Sydney leading into the Canterbury Park meeting tells us race fitness and on pace runners are key here.

This 2YO Shalaa colt gets two big ticks there after two solid runs to kick off his career.

Raced handy then knocked up late on debut over the 1000m in the Inglis Nursery. Then a vastly improved effort at the 1200m last start when looking to lead all the way.

He was in it for a long way, and up for the fight when challenged. Just claimed late, but a decent margin to third and beyond.

Tim Clark reunites here and there is no better front running rider in the business than him.

Expect this to be a trying 1200m, and he has a distinct edge over his rivals here in terms of race fitness.

                That should prove the difference.
                The Shark’s TipLogo

                4. The Little Pumper ($2.25)

                Canterbury, Race 2 – 6. Alfano ($4.60)

Just hoping he can land a bit closer from the good draw and over the 1580m trip here, and think he can power over the top of them late under the light weight.

He has finished off strongly his last pair after doing a bit wrong in the run. Has to handle the jump from 1200m to a mile on a testing track, but it is a soft mile at Canterbury and he should get a smoother run from the gate, and there aren’t many riding better in the country than Tyler Schiller at present.

The top weight looks hard to beat, but leaning toward the Alfano at the weights, ahead of it, and the stablemate.
                The Shark’s TipLogo

                6. Alfano ($4.60)

                Warrnambool, Race 2 – 1. Credible Analyses ($4.80/$1.95)

Prepared to take a punt on the top weight being able to roll the Oaks placed race favourite first up.

There is no doubt Queen Air is a talented filly but I thought the Moroney runner was very good on debut before producing a sound effort 2nd up in a hot race.

This gelding was never on the track from a bad draw for Nolen when having his first start. I doubt that will be the case here for Johnny Allen from the gun draw.

He’s by globe trotting middle distance star Highland Reel, so the 1300m first up suits, and he meets a very moderate field at set weights after going very close from just two tries.

Not much in it outside the top 2 in the betting. The Moroney stable strike at 22% when they venture to The ‘Bool, and nobody knows the joint better than J Allen.

Can get it done at odds.
                The Shark’s TipLogo

                1. Credible Analyses ($4.80/$1.95)

                Canterbury, Race 3 – 1. Hollywood Hero ($4.20)

Happy to carry the weight here with James McDonald up.

This horse should have won on debut after apprentice rider Dylan Gibbons elected to hand up the fence and allowed other runners to cross him down the back, only to find himself held up at a crucial stage in the race.

A rookie error you won’t get from J-Mac. Expect he’ll cross and sit outside the 7.

                Can atone.
                The Shark’s TipLogo

                1. Hollywood Hero ($4.20)

                Doomben, Race 8 – 1. Head Legislator ($8.00/$2.75)

He has the top weight for good reason.

Would absolutely demolish this lot if he is anywhere near right and a luckless run first up after a year off tells you he might not be that far away.

He was quite fresh there, and raced handy, but just had nowhere to go late over the unsuitable trip.

The 1350m is his ideal distance range having won his maiden over 1300m and recorded a hands down victory over the winner of the $2 million Invitation, Promise of Success, at 1400m.

He also went within a length of Wisdom of Water in the Wyong 3 & 4YO Guineas and that horse is multiple stakes placed in the Sunshine State as well as a winner of a million dollar race on the Gold Coast.

That all augurs well you would have to think for a Class 2 race at Doomben during the week.
                The Shark’s TipLogo

                1. Head Legislator ($8.00/$2.75)

Best Bet – 4. The Little Pumper (Canterbury, Race 1)
Next Best – 1. Head Legislator (Doomben, Race 8)
Best Roughie – 1. Credible Analyses (Warrnambool, Race 2)

Racings heads to Canterbury Park Racecourse on Wednesday afternoon for a competitive seven-race program. The rail moves out +8m the entire circuit after the course has seen plenty of racing over the past month or so. The track is currently rated a Good 4; however, there is some rain forecast in the lead up, so there’s a possibility of a downgrade. The first race is set to get underway at 2:20pm AEDT.
                  Best Bet: Hollywood Hero

Hollywood Hero should be a big improver here second-up for the Bjorn Baker yard, and we’re happy to make him the best of the day in the third race at Canterbury. His first appearance had plenty of merit with a perfect run in behind the speed at Canterbury on January 1 and was hitting the line strongly. It was a perfect ride by Dylan Gibbons on that occasion and we think fitness was the only thing that meant he went under by a length behind Toronomica. He’s had a month between runs and an impressive tick-over trial in between that suggested he can go well again on Wednesday afternoon. James McDonald takes the reins this time and despite the wide draw, should be looking to be positive on this son of Sacred Falls to find a good position before getting bye some unraced contenders that has upside as well. We’re thinking Hollywood Hero has plenty of upside as well.
                  Best Bet

                  Next Best: Beauty Crusade

Beauty Crusade is another maiden galloper that looks ready to win on Wednesday afternoon after two outstanding efforts in his opening campaign. Ron Quinton has been placing this three-year-old gelding really well with two strong maidens at Wyong and Randwick respectively; and now finds a softer maiden to break the duck for this son of Invader. His effort behind Pink Baroque really caught the eye from well back in the field to hit the line full of running. Stepping up in trip to the 1580m looks ideal and from a nice draw should see Beauty Crusade get his best opportunity to find the winners enclosure this preparation. Andrew Adkins has taken him around on both his race starts and elects to stick, for good reason too, because this looks his chance to get a good run-in transit to break through.

                  Best Value: Recommendation

The final race on the program looks like a very competitive BM64 and we think the form of Recommendation reads very well for this. The first-up run behind Think About it at Warwick Farm on January 11 was a tough front running effort, clinging on for third position by 1.5 lengths. The winner subsequently has been to the races and won in Saturday company, so the form has seemingly stacked well moving forward. The more we look at this race, the more it becomes apparent there’s a severe lack of speed in this contest, so the wide barrier for Recommendation is of no concern for punters. Tim Clark will be looking to ping the lids and lead them all the way to finish off the Canterbury program and we’re getting a good price with online Bookmakers to find out.

The solitary Wednesday afternoon meeting in Victoria will take place at the Warrnambool Racing Club, which will host a very competitive eight-race card from 2:30pm onwards. The track is rated a Soft 7 after the Warrnambool area received 10mm of rain on Sunday; however, there is good weather forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday, so we should be racing in between the Good 4 and Soft 5 range come race day. The rail will be out in the +9m position for the entire circuit.
Best Bet at Warrnambool: Queen Air

Three-year-old filly Queen Air returns from a three-month spell for Lindsay Smith. This daughter of Toronado finished her spring campaign running fourth in two Group 2 races, the Fillies Classic at Moonee Valley and Wakeful Stakes at Flemington, before finishing third in the Group 1 VRC Oaks. After running in a three-year-old maiden at Geelong on debut, this filly has not raced out of Group level, meaning that this three-year-old Maiden Plate on Wednesday is a massive drop in grade, when compared to her last three runs. Even though 1300m will be short of her best, we get the feeling that Lindsay Smith is sending this girl to Warrnambool to take care of her maiden and then push onto better things in the autumn. From barrier four, Jarrod Fry should look to jump and stay out of trouble mid field, before getting to the outside to prove too classy for this field in the concluding stages.

Next Best at Warrnambool: Golden Vitrine

The first leg of the quaddie is a Benchmark 64 Handicap over 1700m, where Golden Vitrine from the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace yard will be looking to return to the winner’s circle after he was very unlucky last start at Pakenham. This four-year-old gelding settled in the one-one after jumping well from barrier five, and travelled sweetly to the home turn before he was held up behind slowing leaders, whilst the eventual winner had the advantage of building momentum down the outside in clear air. Once this son of Showcasing got through a gap and started to let down, he sprinted quickly to finish second, but the race winner was already off and gone with the prize. John Allen will stick on Wednesday and from barrier 11 of 11, we should see him settle in the back half of the field on the outside and try to eliminate any chance of bad luck occurring again. If he can find clear air with 300m to go, this guy should go close to recording his third victory of his career.

Best Value at Warrnambool: Cat Empire

In the opening event of the day, John Salanitri will have his three-year-old filly, Cat Empire, return to the races after a six-month spell. This filly has only faced the starter once in her career, where she finished fifth of nine at Echuca over 1200m on July 29. On debut, she settled just behind the leading pair and looked to have something to offer on the turn before shifting around in the Soft ground and losing a few lengths on the leader before rallying late to hold on to fifth place. Since returning from a spell, Salanitri has given this filly a nice trial at Burrumbeet where she settled behind the leader and pulled out on the home turn to finish the trial off under little riding. This daughter of Sebring will enjoy a firmer track on Wednesday and if she can settle close to the speed from barrier five, we could see her break her maiden at a nice price with online Bookmakers.

We’re back racing at Happy Valley on Wednesday night after a two-week break away from the city circuit. It’s a quality nine-race program set for decision, coming off a massive day at Sha Tin with the Stewards’ Cup living up to the hype as Golden Sixty proved he is still the Hong Kong champ. The rail is back in the A position for the entire circuit and we should be racing with perfect conditions under lights. The first race is scheduled to get underway at 6:45pm HKT (9:45pm AEDT).
                      Best Bet: Gold Gold Baby

What an amazing training performance it’s been from Francis Lui to get Gold Gold Baby racing this well. From a horse plodding away in Class 5 to now finding himself a Class 3 contender and on the verge of pressing Class 2 company, this guy has been a sensation this preparation. His pattern of racing is heart-in-your-mouth stuff; however, he has shown staggering consistency running on from the back of the field, including his last-start win on January 4. He got back to last and while he stole rails runs, he didn’t look the winner until the final 100m, producing an astonishing turn-of-foot to score. He gets a 3kg penalty now for that win, but we feel he can get it done from the soft barrier. He’ll be near enough to last again, but now you can be backing him with trust.

                      Next Best: E Legend

E Legend drops back into Class 4 for the first time since June and looks to have found a nice race to get his third career win. The Class 3 performance behind All Beauty on January 4 was strong when sitting up on speed and kicking around the turn, finishing only 2.8 lengths off the winner. He’s been looking for something easier and finds just that now. Despite getting the hefty weight penalty dropping into Class 4, E Legend has looks primed to find the winner’s enclosure here. Zac Purton gets on this Manfred Man-trained gelding by Dissident who can handle the 61kg to lead throughout this 1650m contest.

                      Next Best Again: Packing Succeeder

We were impressed with Packing Succeeder on debut at Happy Valley on January 11 and we think can improve to win second-up. It’s no easy task to race over the 1650m on debut; however, that’s the exact task this son of Pins was tasked with rattling into third placing behind Super Baby. He only saw daylight with about 200m to go and flew down the outside to be one of the clear ‘forgive’ performances, not to mention a real lack of tempo in that race with Super Baby going all the way in front. This time we get Zac Purton on board to offset an awkward barrier, and in a race that should see more genuine speed, Packing Succeeder looks a nice type moving forward that can break his maiden status on Wednesday night.

                      Best Value: Tianchi Monster

Tianchi Monster is a well tried eight-year-old and we think he can find a win for the first time since May. He’s a genuine Class 3 horse with a record of 29: 6-3-2 in this grade and should be set to run another bold race over this course and distance. His Class 2 efforts at Sha Tin have plenty of merit as well when running into the likes of Packing Treadmill and Tuchel, who both ran exceptionally in the first leg of the four-year-old series on Sunday. Even looking back to his latest Happy Valley performance at this course and distance behind Packing Award, Mr Ascendancy in that field has won the Class 1 Chinese New Year Cup. This guy’s form reads very well, and from a gun gate Harry Bentley only needs to have Tianchi Monster in striking distance to go close.

                        Picks Notes
#4 Laytown He has never been shorter than a mile, but he showed a bit of pace when sent long on the drop last time out, and now he's a turnback player while doubling the tag off the claim. Think his baseline is pretty competitive here.
#10 Nara He hasn't shown much through two starts and has obviously had some issues with just two starts in his 18-month career, and he's back off the break again while dropping in for the first time. Wouldn't be a surprise to see a sign of life today for a team that's better than 40% with these kinds.
#12 Charleston Strong He has already had 10 chances, including a handful with maiden claimers, so he's a bit tough to trust late in here after giving away ground in the stretch call of every race on his page. All that said, he should be in the hunt turning for home and wouldn't be any kind of surprise at a likely underlaid price.
Race Summary Laytown is worth a look while stepping up here, and he might offer a decent enough price in a race where Ward and Maker might dominate the betting. Thinking he get an ok spying trip in this one.

                        Turfway Park - Race #5
                        Picks Notes
#6 Pittore d'Oro Spent a lot of time looking at this race and finding myself underwhelmed with the logical options from the name barns in here, and this filly goes first out for a team that won at $34 with their only similar runner here in the last couple years. Take a look at her on the track and tote, but maybe she's a sneaky player in an iffy race?
#9 Dona Witch Debuter is probably one to watch going a bit longer down the road, but she's got a classy pedigree to her and is meeting a field that doesn't feel like it's the deepest for the local level.
#7 Miss J D No clue which filly is going to show up here, but she's in the mix with these if she can bring something more like her two-back run here in December. Tough call, and I'd want something better than the 4/1 ML price to find out.
Race Summary Pittore d'Oro might outrun her odds at first asking, as she's sure to get overlooked in a race with more obvious players who still have a lot of proving to do. Willing to take a swing. #10 Jenny Lind is another player as she'll get Lasix for this second career start, but the barn is struggling with their local string.

                        Turfway Park - Race #7
                        Picks Notes
#5 Miss Matchmaker Think it's her or potential chaos, but she should appreciate the drop in for half the price after not getting embarrassed in that first try with winners. Looking for someone who can show a little enthusiasm late, and she might have the right move at the right time to land this.
#7 Shadow Belle She should be a big price again in here off a really respectable late effort at 67/1 when stepping to this level last time out, and I think she might be the right one to boost the gimmicks with a logical top choice.
#8 Sis Boom Bob I think her last couple tries may have been a bit better than tonight's price is likely to reflect, and it wouldn't be a shock to see her flash some prompting pace and stick around for a piece here.
Race Summary Miss Matchmaker cuts the tag in half back to the price at which she scored the graduation run, and I think she'll get a good race shape in here to get past the early players in the lane. I'll try to get Shadow Belle or Sis Boom Bob in the mix with her at a price.

#2 SIR ROCKPORT (8-1) Returns to town and preferred distance, too good to pass up at a price.
#4 CARGO SHIP (7-2) Sparred with the favorites, shook clear, held on to enhance solid PN record.
#6 VENOMOUS STATE (5-2) Begins 9yo campaign off freshening and with 20 wins at 6F intact.
Race Summary SIR ROCKPORT, no threat to the front-running favorite in a fast-paced, two-turn sprint at Charles Town, can’t be faulted for his prior four starts at today’s distance. #3 RUN LAURA RUN (3-1) Been picking up checks in short fields, change of tactics could be in store.
Race Summary DENALI RAE rallied 4-wide to finish second on the class drop to this level. She switches riders and should get a faster pace to rally into. Play a 5-ALL exacta.

Race Summary GIVE IT A GO got the jump on the deep-closing winner two starts back to just miss at Laurel Park. He flattened out in a 1-1/8-mile follow-up try. The combination of the class drop and a lively pace scenario should lead him to the winners’ circle. Bet to win and place.
