NHL | Bruins vs Oilers

Monday NHL Free play. My selection is on Edmonton over Boston at 8:35 pm et on Monday.
While we certainly won't make a habit of it, we'll fade the red hot Bruins on Monday as they continue their western Canadian swing in Edmonton. Boston has won six games in a row including two straight to open its current road trip. I do think the Oilers match up well against the Bruins, however, noting that Boston hasn't won consecutive meetings against Edmonton since 2018 (the B's won 3-2 the last time these two teams met in December of 2021). The Oilers have actually taken three of the last five matchups between these two squads going back to the 2018-19 campaign. Edmonton inexplicably turned back to the struggling Jack Campbell in goal on Saturday and paid the price in a wild 6-5 defeat in Columbus that did see the Oilers erase a 4-0 deficit. We should see All-Star goaltender (I do use that term loosely) Stuart Skinner back between the pipes on Monday. While Edmonton is just 14-16 on home ice this season it has actually outscored opponents by an average margin of 0.3 goals per contest. While we generally don't see the Bruins fall into many flat spots, I do think this is one of them as they come off an off-day on Sunday before opening this back-to-back set in Alberta (they'll play in Calgary tomorrow night). Take Edmonton.

This is a play on the IOWA ST. CYCLONES for our Monday Free Play. Iowa St. was atop the Big 12 for most of the season but it has fallen hard with three straight losses and has gone down in five of its last six and seven of its last nine with identical records against the number. The Cyclones are not in jeopardy of missing the NCAA Tournament but they need a quick turnaround to close the regular season and make at least a small run in the Big 12 Conference Tournament to get some momentum heading into the Big Dance. The loss against Oklahoma dropped them to 13-2 at home with this being their final home game of the season to get right. West Virginia is another team that has been struggling and because of a poor start, they are playing themselves out of the NCAA Tournament as they have lost four of five and while the loss Saturday against Kansas by a bucket was a quality defeat, a loss is a loss and that one hurt. The Mountaineers fell to 2-8 on the road and while they still have a solid No. 27 NET ranking, they are just 4-12 in Quad 1 games with those being the fewest wins in the conference as well as the most losses and that is hard for the committee to overlook. I'll take my chances with Baylor as a slim 1-point road favorite against Oklahoma State. This to me is just too good a price to pass up on the Bears. Yes, Baylor is coming off a big home win against Texas and had lost their last two on the road by double-digits at Kansas (71-87) and Kansas State (65-75). I don't see this team having a letdown with just two games left in the regular-season. Baylor is 11-3 since Jan. 7th.
They did come up short in a similar role in their last road game at K-State, as they were a 2-point road favorite in that game. Prior to that game, Baylor had won 4 straight on the road when listed as a favorite or a dog of fewer than 4 points.
Nothing against the Cowboys, but they aren't on the Wildcats level. Oklahoma State has not played well down the stretch. Cowboys come in losers of 4 straight. Failing to cover the spread in all 4 games. When they were playing well it was because of their defense. In their last 4 games they have given up 87 to Kansas, 100 to TCU, 85 to West Virginia and 73 to K-State. Baylor is No. 2 in the country in adjusted offensive efficiency. Give me Baylor -1!
