Tuesday CBB Free play. My selection is on Vanderbilt minus the points over Yale at 9 pm et on Tuesday.
Both of these teams obviously come off a loss in their most recent game, but both had been red hot for weeks prior. I simply feel a lot of bettors are sleeping on this Vanderbilt squad, which has the potential to go on a deep NIT run in my opinion. Yes, there's disappointment for not reaching the Big Dance but let's face it, Vandy wasn't going to go on a National Championship run. Here in the NIT, the Commodores are better-positioned to keep playing, provided they can avoid overlooking Yale. The Bulldogs fell to Princeton in the Ivy League Championship Game on Sunday. While Yale did its best to slow Princeton in that contest, it ultimately lost because of the Tigers hot shooting from beyond the arc. While Yale does check in ranked an impressive 56th in the country in adjusted defensive efficiency, it only faced the 197th most difficult schedule in terms of opponents' adjusted offensive efficiency (both according to KenPom). Vandy ranks 22nd in adjusted offensive efficiency despite having faced the 18th toughest slate of opponents from a defensive standpoint (the SEC is no joke). I like backing the Commodores off a loss here, noting that their longest losing streak of the season was only three games and that came during a brutal stretch that saw it face Kentucky at home and Texas A&M and Alabama on the road back in January (they went 10-2 SU and 9-3 ATS after that stretch). These two programs actually faced each other once previously, back in 2015, with Vandy prevailing by a score of 79-74 but failing to cover the -5.5-point spread. We're working with a more favorable line for the home side here, despite Vandy having gone 12-5 while outscoring opponents by an average margin of 4.5 points (not to mention the fact it faced a top-100 rated non-conference schedule this season). Take Vanderbilt.
