At 48-102, the Royals have the second-worst record in baseball. A terrible pitching staff is a major factor why the Royals could finish with more than 106 losses, which would exceed the most defeats ever in a season for them. Kansas City has the third-highest ERA in the league and the second-fewest quality starts.
Brady Singer is one of those stiff Kansas City pitchers at 8-11 with a 5.51 ERA. Singer gets the start here as he stumbles toward the finish line having gone 0-3 in his last five starts with a 7.82 ERA.
Cleveland is 24 games better than Kansas City. The Guardians aren't likely to make the playoffs either. But they just swept the Rangers, who had won six in a row before losing three straight to the Guardians.
The Guardians have motivation and pride to finish strong for popular Terry Francona, who is likely to step down as manager after leading Cleveland for the last 11 years.
Cal Quantrill draws the start for Cleveland. His record is 3-6 with a 5.40 ERA, but he's been in excellent form posting a 1.50 ERA during his last three starts. He's gone six innings in each of those past three starts.
So I find this to be a low price to lay given the Guardians are the superior team, have the better starting pitcher and won't lack motivation.
The Mets are 3-9 as a road underdog of +125 to +175 and here they'll face a Marlins team that is 16-8 as a home favorite of -125 to -175.
Marlins right-hander Edward Cabrera is 5-0 with a 2.91 ERA in seven home starts on the season.
The Marlins are coming into the week as owners of the third and final National League wild-card spot, but it's extremely close and every win counts while the Mets' season is all but over already.

I'll take my chances with the OVER 9.5 in Monday's series opener between the Reds and Twins. There's been an average of 9.8 runs/game in Cincinnati home games. I expect a few more than that with this pitching matchup. Reds are starting Connor Phillips. He's been roughed up in his first two starts, allowing 8 runs on 10 hits (3 HR) with 6 BBs in 8 2/3 innings. Minnesota has a little better option starting with Joe Ryan, but he's just 4-5 with a 4.67 ERA in 13 road starts. Ryan has also really struggled in interleague games, posting a 7.00 ERA and 1.778 WHIP in 4 starts vs NL teams. Give me the OVER 9.5!
