The Minnesota Vikings and the Carolina Panthers face off in a game that both teams need a win. Both teams are 0-2-1 ATS this season. The Vikings' defense has played well this season and needs to step it up against a Panthers offense that has struggled this season to move the ball. Bryce Young returns to the Panthers but it is not as if it is the return of Patrick Mahomes. Young is still feeling his way as an NFL quarterback. He has thrown for 299 yards and a couple of touchdowns and interceptions through the first two weeks. Cousins is playing really well and I look for him and Jefferson to have big games. Minnesota is 6-4 ATS in their last ten meetings with Carolina and 7-3 straight up. Carolina is 4-1-1 ATS in its previous six outings at home and 4-1 ATS in its last five contests against the NFC North. On the other side, the Vikings are 1-7-1 ATS in their last nine games overall and 4-7-2 ATS in their previous 13 games away from home. I am taking Cousins and the Vikings in this one.

      Dave's Sunday Free Play:

1* on New Orleans Saints -3

The Key: The Tampa Bay Bucs were exposed on Monday Night Football. They lost 25-11 to the Philadelphia Eagles and that game wasn't even that close. They gave up 472 yards to the Eagles and only managed 174 yards themselves, getting outgained by nearly 300 yards. Keep in mind they were outgained by 127 yards by the Vikings in Week 1, and the Vikings are 0-3 now. They were also in a 3-point game late against the Chicago Bears at home in Week 2, and the Bears are 0-3 now with blowout losses to the Packers and Chiefs. The Bucs just aren't very good. The Saints should be 3-0 but they blew a 17-point lead in the 4th quarter to the Packers last week. They'll come back with a chip on their shoulder this week. They also get Alvin Kamara back from a 3-game suspension, and he is their best playmakers. The Bucs have injuries all over their defense right now that could hamper them, and it's a big reason they gave up 472 yards to the Eagles last week. Jameis Winston isn't much of a downgrade from Derek Carr as the Saints have one of the best backup QB situations in the league, and also one of the top defenses as they have now held 11 straight opponents to 20 points or fewer. Take New Orleans.

        Free Play: Commanders +9

The Eagles have lost only once during Jalen Hurts' last 21 regular season starts. Washington is the team owning that victory. That occurred last season with the Commanders upsetting the Eagles, 32-21, on a Monday night in Philadelphia.

The Commanders have played the Eagles tough in Philadelphia going 2-0-2 ATS the past four seasons.

I see the Commanders hanging in again on the road against the Eagles.

The Eagles are 3-0, but haven't looked nearly as sharp in this early going as they did on their way to the Super Bowl last season. Philadelphia beat New England by five points and Minnesota by six before soundly whipping Tampa Bay this past Monday night. The Eagles have been helped by getting multiple takeaways during each of their first three games, the only team in the NFL that has done that.

Philadelphia's passing attack doesn't seem as crisp without offensive coordinator Shane Steichen, who took over the head coaching job with the Colts. The Eagles rank 23rd in passing offense.

Washington has a well above average defense. The Commanders have proven they can beat lower echelon opponents defeating the Cardinals and Broncos. They got buried by the Bills, 37-3, when stepping up in class at home last week.

But the Commanders are not nearly that bad. Sam Howell was playing well up to that game. He has two solid wide receivers and a reliable north/south runner in Brian Robinson. Washington's defensive front easily is top-10 caliber. The Commanders also draw the Eagles on a short week.

I believe this line has gotten inflated based on how horrible the Commanders looked against the Bills and a national TV audience viewing how dominant the Eagles played against the Buccaneers.

So I'll take this many points in my belief the Commanders won't lose by more than single-digits, if not stun Philadelphia on the road for the second time in two years.

          Panthers +4.5

On Sunday at Bank of America Stadium, the NFL showdown features the winless (0-3) Vikings facing off against the also winless (0-3) Panthers. The betting odds for this game have Minnesota favored by -4 points. In terms of the moneyline odds, Minnesota stands at -185, while Carolina sits at +151. When it comes to the total points scored in the game, the over/under is set at 45 points. Both NFL teams enter this game with identical 0-2-1 ATS records this season.

The Vikings lost last week 28-24 to the San Diego Chargers, and while the Vikings lead the league in yardage, and most of us wish we had Kirk Cousins as our starting fantasy QB the Vikings aren't exactly a model of good football in 2023. Their defense is their achilles heel no doubt in my opinion, but we also can't turn our backs on the turnovers with the Minni O. (9 turnovers, 7 fumbles)

Young is on track to return as the starter for Sunday's home game, and if he's injured during the game I still have confidence in Big Red. Andy looked pretty good last week in Seattle. According to NFL Network, Young fully participated in Wednesday's practice, signaling his readiness to start Sunday's matchup. This presents an opportunity for him to exploit the Vikings' vulnerable pass defense, which has allowed an average of 27.3 points and 261.7 passing yards per game in the season's initial three weeks.

Also on the Panthers side of the ball things aren't much better as we know, but I do love how Thielen is playing thus far in 2023. And he has a little "revenge factor" to play for in this one. I don't think the Vikings will have an answer for the Panthers run game either. Now, we know they're not HR hitters but Sanders and Hubbard are a nice 1-2 punch, and will be a handful for the Vikings Rush-D. Plus both are dangerous coming out of the backfield catching the ball.

Some trends to note, the Vikings are 1-7-1 ATS in their L9 games, they're also 1-6-1 ATS in their last 8 games against an opponent in the NFC. Lastly, they're 1-5 SU in their L6 games.

Backing the Panthers as home dogs here on Sunday. Grab the points.

          Good Luck, Razor Ray.

The Philadelphia Eagles were 7-point favorites prior to beating the Bucs 25-11 on Monday Night Football. Now they are up to 8-point favorites after everyone got to see them Monday night dominate the Bucs. Now the Eagles will be working on a short week and there won't be nearly as much national attention on this game with a 1:00 EST kick. It has letdown written all over it for the Eagles. There's value on the Commanders, especially after they were blown out at home by the Bills last week while committing five turnovers to basically give the game away. I expect a much better effort from the Commanders this week in this divisional showdown with first place on the line. The Commanders were impressive the first two weeks of the season and I think they get back to being that team. Remember last year the Commanders pulled the 32-21 upset in Philadelphia as 10.5-point underdogs. The Eagles were in dog fights with the Patriots and Vikings in their first two games before blowing out the fraudulent Bucs. They will get more of a fight from Washington than they bargained for on Sunday. Give me the Commanders.

It's only the first day of October but the season is probably already over for the Broncos and the Bears. They're both 0-3 and off really ugly losses. One of them will win today though and that will provide some hope. That team is likely going to be Sean Payton's Broncos. Denver could easily be 2-1. Two losses came by three combined points. Chicago has been blown out in every game. All three of the Bears' losses came by at least 10 points. The Bears are 8-22 ATS their last 30 as underdogs. Lay the points.

Our data-driven picks use data integration, search and discovery, and knowledge management along with collaboration with our in-house handicappers. Our models suggest that the value is on the underdog. The Rockies close out their season with a home game against the Twins, and Chase Anderson should give them a chance to win. He's only allowed two earned runs in his last two starts.

We have a battle between two teams that can't be happy with the way their 2023 seasons went. This particular play though is based 100% upon the men on the mound, and we absolutely feel that New York's Michael King (4-7, 2.50 ERA), has a major advantage here over his counterpart Zach Greinke 1-15 (5.18.) Look for New York to go out on a high note and to ride King to a solid victory to close out the 2023 regular season!

This is a play on the LAS VEGAS RAIDERS+6.5 -105 for our Sunday Free Play. The Chargers finally broke into the win column but nearly gave the game away again with bad coaching decisions which has haunted this team going back to last season. They avoided disaster by picking off a pass with their backs up against the goal line and despite having one of the best quarterbacks, Los Angeles continues to underachieve. Making the poor start even more bizarre is the fact the Chargers have committed only one turnover but the defense has put the pressure on the offense to keep up. Defensively, the Chargers are ahead of only the Broncos is opponent yppl allowed at 6.6 which is actually over a half-yard worse than the hapless Bears. Las Vegas is also 1-2 to start the season and it was another coaching headscratcher last week with Josh McDaniels opting to kick a field goal late in the game down eight points instead of trusting his offense that was moving the ball. So we are faced with backing this team with coaching issues but the difference is in the line that is overpriced in a divisional game matching two teams not that far off from each other. Las Vegas has been much better defensively and on offense, the Raiders have listed quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo as questionable as he is in concussion protocol and it is not a big issue if he cannot go with his 84.1 passer rating that is made up of more interceptions than touchdowns. It is a home game for the Chargers but there is little home field edge here. Play (271) Las Vegas Raiders The NFL is off and running with two of three winning weeks so far this season and Matt is on a 12-7 run and we are back for more winning! The NFL Regular and Postseason record is now 79-55-1 (+$18,750) since the start of last season and Week 4 is loaded for another MASSIVE weekend in football!
