EVIL GUY looks nice to best this field of horses. Many smart handicappers know speed is of the utmost importance. This contender has credentials with a 85 average number. Should be given a look based on the respectable speed rating earned in the most recent affair. With Tetrick in the sulky, watch out for this fine animal to get the top prize. CAN'T SAY NO - Can't forget based on speed ratings which have been terrific (85 avg) in recent times. Always excellent driver/trainer twosome. 22 percent winners when they work together. LADY'S IMAGE - A very nice class horse can't be missed. With an avg class figure of 84 all signs point to this one being the winner. Extremely profitable driver/trainer match, with a 17 return on investment when working with each other.

If you want a really strong play for this race, feast your eyes on LITTLE ROCKET MAN. This horse looks tough. Check out the 100 average TrackMaster SR. With a 98 avg class stat, this harness racer has one of the top class edges in the pack. Certainly did like this gelding's last race. Ran a solid 97 speed rating. Major contender. BILLY CLYDE - Can't overlook based on speed ratings which have been excellent (96 avg) lately. This horse achieved a nice speed rating in last race. Looks fit to come right back. JK VICTORY - This harness racer looks very good considering the high class ratings. We wouldn't recommend tossing out of any exotics. This trainer, and the driver Tetrick, go together like Sonny and Cher. Their results together are terrific.

Hey, listen up! IKNOWYOUKNOW is the knowledgeable wager if you like to win. Outstanding ROI from the Century Mile 7 post, watch out for this live one. The consortium knows that speed is King in harness racing. This horse will unlock our way to a nice top prize. She has very good class figures, averaging 50. Worth considering for a bet this time. MY LITTLE CHLOE - She's racing in good form, recording very promising TrackMaster Speed Ratings. An excellent play. More than likely the class of the group of horses with an average rating of 53. A nice choice. IMA FIST FIGHT - Recently Campbell has been tearing it up, which may give the edge to this filly in this event. Campbell fits this contender's style perfectly. They've enjoyed some excellent results when teaming up.

                Del Mar - Race #6
#4 Scary Fast Ride She stepped her game up on the dirt and produced a runaway graduation score last time out, and she fits right back in a race where her ability to rate just a bit should work in her favor.
#7 Class Clown Think she'll be in a similar kind of spot as the top choice, but this one might be just a touch more committed to getting in the battle early. Capable, but she also has to turn the tables on the next one...
#2 Wishtheyallcouldbe She has been in razor-sharp form, but she has never held this kind of form for this long, so I do worry about her slipping at some point as she aims for a fourth straight win while under a third different barn. Obviously in the mix.
Race Summary Scary Fast Ride hasn't done much wrong in two dirt starts, and she might be in line for a really perfect trip while spying the speed from close range. Think there's a lot to like at anything near the 6/1 ML offering.
                Del Mar - Race #7
#1 Sharp Aza Tack Willing to take a pretty solid lean on this one if the price stays playable, as I think he has always done his best work on the lead, and he seems fast enough to find that while stretching out today. Let's see if he remembers his better stuff with a different trip today.
#6 Dandy Man Shines His baseline has been pretty competitive with decent groups along the way, and his turn of foot might be sharp enough to overcome what feels like a potentially negative race shape. Underlay?
#3 Camilo Nothing wrong with getting Prat up for the local debut, and he has already carried his form through a few different racetracks. Could see him getting a decent first-over trip.
Race Summary Sharp Aza Tack finds a short field without a ton of early speed, and he might be able to take advantage of that while stretching around two turns for the first time. The Sharp Aztecas have been a touch better going long than sprinting, so there is some hope on the stretchout.
                Del Mar - Race #8
#5 Lonesome Stew He looked sharp in the score last time out, and he can probably be right up on the tempo while getting around two turns for the first time. Mild worry about a step back off the big layoff run, but that also means he's a real handful if he has any move forward in him second off the bench.
#1 Duty First He should be in the mix early from the fence while stretching out, but I also think he might wind up inheriting a dreamy trip while tucked in just behind if a couple of the other potential forward players go from farther outside.
#6 Nokie She showed some late enthusiasm that was too delayed to make an impact, but she might be able to find a more consistent effort while getting on the dirt today. One of many chances while in with the boys.
Race Summary Lonesome Stew might be aggressive enough to control this one early in a spot where a couple forward elements exist, but I like his chances to bring that sharp sprint run around two turns today.

                Laurel Park - Race #1
#6 SWAY’SINMYDNA (10-1) Move forward off latest brings him into focus as live longshot.
#1 LAST SECOND LOUIE (4-1) Handled transition to dirt, rallied to brief lead, caught by 45-1 shot.
#8 ALOTTACENTS (9-5) Bid to clear lead, settled for second best as the fave on class drop to this level.
Race Summary SWAY’SINMYDNA got first run in a one-mile race dominated by deep closers but faded to finish fourth. He gets Lasix again and can be more of a forward factor on the stretch-out in distance for his second long-distance test on the main track. Bet to win and place.
                Laurel Park - Race #5
#4 RIBBONSINHERHAIR (6-1) Well-traveled 3yo starts fresh after game allowance win, good value play.
#1 MISS GEORGIE (3-1) Buried lesser, rounding to another good effort with Lasix.
#8 GENIEINABRIDLE (5-2) Rallied to win three in a row—all in photo finishes.
Race Summary RIBBONSINHERHAIR survived a stretch-long duel to maintain peak form and win an allowance race at Hawthorne 2-1/2 months ago. She arrives off a series of workouts at Delaware Park for a barn on a 29 percent ‘repeat’ run. Bet to win and place.
                Laurel Park - Race #8
#2 INANNA’S QUEST (6-1) Proven turf router likes to win, runs well fresh, too good to pass up at 6-1.
#6 FEATHERS (9-5) ‘Took command’ in stretch two back, had excuse in latest, won twice for $25k in Cali.
#3 SING SCAT (7-2) Good tactical speed, looks to bounce back after four-race winning streak ended.
Race Summary INANNA’S QUEST out-kicked the co-favorites after she found running room in the stretch, but she couldn’t reach the 15-1 pace setter in a comparable spot on the Colonial Downs lawn. She’s a six-time grass winner and finished first or second in half of her starts at this distance. Play 2-5 and 2-6 exactas.

(Fair Value: These are the odds at which I could reasonably bet each of the horses listed. Wagering decisions should be based on the actual odds. The best value option will not necessarily be the top pick.)

                    RACE 4

Linda Rice sends out two runners, including the likely heavy favorite in this starter allowance affair. Brooklyn Diamonds (#3) appears to fit this spot pretty well, having just missed at the same level three weeks ago. He has really transformed under Linda Rice’s care, winning his first two starts off the claim before that narrow loss last time. It’s also been encouraging to see him display improved tactical speed in his recent starts. However, that may not be such a benefit this time, as there appears to be a fair amount of speed signed on. I prefer the other Rice runner Strapped (#1). He lacks the flashy speed figures of his stablemate, but I think he’s been displaying subtle improvement in each start for the new barn. He ran deceptively well first off the claim back in September against a tough maiden field, racing somewhat against the track while wide all the way. He dropped into a maiden claimer to graduate two back, and then improved upon that effort when he stepped up against winners last time. That Oct. 7 starter allowance was dominated on the front end, and he was the only horse to make a significant closing rally. The winner, Mama’s Gold, returned to win his next start, improving his TimeformUS Speed Figure by 9 points. The only other horse I want to consider is Anthracite (#4). He displayed good form at Tampa and Monmouth earlier this year, and has been a little disappointing since coming to New York. Yet he was catching a tough rival in that conditioned claimer last time, and never had great position. He wants to be more forwardly placed than that, and would benefit from a more aggressive ride here. He’s capable on his best day, and should be used with the top pick.

                    Fair Value:
#1 STRAPPED, at 7-2 or greater

                    RACE 5

I don’t want to take any kind of short price on Chulligan (#3), who has just been a massive disappointment considering his stellar pedigree and flashy purchase price. He’s now dropping into a softer spot, but he was supposed to show more at Finger Lakes last time competing over a sloppy track. His lone race on fast going was terrible, and I’m skeptical he’s going to break through on this surface. The horse to beat might be another runner coming out of Finger Lakes, Max Foster (#1). Yet he’s also somewhat unappealing at a short price, having had plenty of chances. At least he possesses better tactical speed, and he might have a chance to get in front early. I just think this is a race where you want to get more creative, and I see two interesting alternatives. My top pick is Majestic Arc (#5). This horse might be a big better than he looks on paper after getting less than ideal trip son a few occasions. He was racing on a dead rail two back at Aqueduct, and had a right to tire late against a tougher field than this. Then last time he had trouble at the start and rushed up to chase the pace before fading. I think he possesses more tactical speed than he’s displayed, and just needs to break cleanly. That 93 TimeformUS Speed Figure he earned last time is the highest dirt number in this field. The other horse I want to use is Sin Nombre (#2). He still has a lot to prove from an ability standpoint, but he probably deserves another chance coming back off a brief freshening. He had trouble at the start on debut, and then got shut off in mid-stretch two back before fading. He now takes the blinkers off and returns as a new gelding, facing a weaker field than he’s met in either of his prior starts.

                    Fair Value:
#5 MAJESTIC ARC, at 6-1 or greater
#2 SIN NOMBRE, at 12-1 or greater

                    RACE 7

Be the Boss (#1) is probably the one to beat as he tries to get back to the winner’s circle after losing at short prices in a few of his recent starts. He ran well behind Win for Gold two back at Saratoga, but that was a day when speed appeared to especially dangerous on the Saratoga main track. He did contest a fast pace last time, but I didn’t like the way he faded at the end. Now he’s drawn the rail, so he figures to be used early once again, and I’m just not convinced that he necessarily has to rebound. Locke and Key (#3) finished over 5 lengths ahead of him that day, but he got the right kind of trip and setup closing from off the pace. He's been in great form since switching back to dirt, but I just wonder if he’ll continue to be as fortunate. G Munning (#4) appears to make plenty of sense, though he’s another who has already had his fair share of chances to break through at this level. I did think his last race is a little better than it looks, since he didn’t seem to appreciate the muddy kickback in upper stretch. This is the right kind of spot for him, and his best effort gives him a strong chance. I just want to go for a horse who might be a better price. Fast Buck Freddy (#6) has some things to prove at this level, but he never had a fair chance last time when racing over that speed-favoring Saratoga strip, in a race that was basically a merry-go-round. He wants to be more forwardly placed than that, and he’s drawn well outside of some key speed rivals this time. I thought he was pretty game in his maiden victory two back, and he might be capable of better as he returns for just the fourth start of his career.

                    Fair Value:
#6 FAST BUCK FREDDY, at 7-1 or greater

                    RACE 8

Let’s Go Big Blue (#10) probably does deserve to be favored in this spot given his consistent turf form. Yet he was overbet in his last turf race and didn’t quite perform to expectations, just barely getting up for third. Now he draws the far outside post position as a horse who is typically popular with the bettors, so I’m concerned that he’s going to offer poor value once again. There appears to be plenty of speed signed on here, with Itsallcomintogeta and Curly Larry and Mo most likely to square off on the front end. Yet there are others who want to show speed, so I agree with the Pace Projector predicting a fast pace. That figures to help Agent Creed (#3), who was closing for second in that Sep. 15 race. He’s making his first start off a trainer switch to Owen Garber, former assistant to William Morey. This horse makes sense if he holds his recent form, which has generally been consistent all year. He just tends to settle for minor awards and really needs the trip to work out. My top pick is King of Comedy (#6), who finished behind the two aforementioned contenders at this level last time. This 3-year-old isn’t as accomplished as the favorite, and he did have things his own way when he last won at Belmont in July. Prior to that, he had actually run better than Let’s Go Big Blue on June 10. He then didn’t get the best trip in the Rick Violette two back, mostly inside over a course that seemed to be favoring outside paths. He was again beaten by his main rival last time, but I thought he showed some grit to battle on to be part of that photo for second at the end. He has shown the ability to stalk and pounce, as he did when he broke his maiden here last year. I would rather take his upside at a better price.

                    Fair Value:
#6 KING OF COMEDY, at 9-2 or greater

                    RACE 9

My primary opinion in this maiden claimer is that I don’t want to settle for a short price on Accelerina (#11), who will take money based on one dirt race at Los Alamitos over the summer. That 82 TimeformUS Speed Figure makes her the horse to beat, but she was facing a field of suspect quality where she checked in last of 4 runners. Now she’s moving into the barn of Rudy Rodriguez and dropping to the lowest level of her career as she takes advantage of her New York-bred status for the first time. She may win at a short price, but she’s not the kind of favorite I want to support. The obvious alternative is first time starter Ghostbustin (#2), who actually has some pedigree, being a full-sister to stakes winner and $549k earner Time Limit. She shows some decent workouts at Finger Lakes and goes out for a capable barn. Debuting for a tag doesn’t exactly inspire confidence, but she might just be placed appropriately. She just feels like a horse who could take more money than is really merited given the complexion of the field. My top pick is Dreaming of Carli (#5). At least this filly figures to be a price in a confusing race. It’s unclear if she can handle dirt, but she is out of a dam who was fairly versatile. She showed some ability in her debut sprinting for Linda Rice, as she got a conservative ride and was running on mildly at the end. She didn’t perform well when last seen, but was basically eased late after a wide trip. Now she returns from a layoff landing in a relatively soft spot.

                    Fair Value:
#5 DREAMING OF CARLI, at 12-1 or greater

                      DEL MAR PICKS

                      By Brad Free
BEST BET: Dandy Man Shines (7th race)
                      First Race
                      1. Leopardess 2. Katerini 3. Violet Storm
Opening day Del Mar autumn meet, first post 12:30. Kentucky shipper LEOPARDESS drops from allowance to $25k claiming N2L. This
is the first time she has run for a claim tag; every other entrant in this field has already lost for a tag. LEOPARDESS will be ridden by
Flavien Prat, leading rider at the 2022 DMR fall meet. Prat returns for fall 2023 with a slew of live mounts opening day (top selections
races 1, 3, 4, 5). KATERINI enters with a potential pace advantage. This field is light on speed; she could have an easy time of it on the
front end. Her last three turf routes produced three runner-up finishes. One mile seems like a reach. Her stablemate VIOLET STORM
stretches back out from a sprint and could apply pace pressure.

                      Second Race
                      1. Halo Uncle 2. Eddie's Wave 3. Thirsty Thursday
Gradually improving 2yo HALO UNCLE missed by a nose last out in a similar Cal-bred maiden-50; the winner finished second next out
in a $175k stakes. 'UNCLE ran well over the DMR track in summer, and can reel them in from off the pace. First-time starter EDDIE'S
WAVE debuts against a relatively shallow bunch. His dam produced eight runners, three won first time out. THIRSTY THURSDAY,
runner-up here two months ago, returns as a first-time gelding for a new trainer. FACT OR FICTION is speed on the rail. He could vie for
favoritism, and he certainly will vie for the early lead.

                      Third Race
                      1. Julias Dream 2. Thermal 3. April Vintage
The traditional pick six ($1 minimum) returns to Del Mar: 70-30 payoff split and no single-ticket jackpot. This allowance turf sprint for
2yo fillies is the opening leg of the sequence. JULIAS DREAM (Prat) returns to the DMR course on which she dazzled in summer. She
won by more than five lengths with a huge figure, then cracked in a G1 on dirt . Freshened since, working well, returns to preferred
footing, obvious choice. THERMAL put it all together in the third start of her career, switching to turf and scoring a decisive frontrunning victory. The light bulb went on, the highly regarded filly shortens from six furlongs to five as a top contender. APRIL VINTAGE,
third against boys in a turf sprint stakes last out, was pre-entered in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint but did not make the cut. She is
back with fillies, dropping to N1X, and drew outside her main rivals. Stakes winner BECKY'S DREAM adds speed.

                      Fourth Race
                      1. Coach Prime 2. Bartholdy 3. American Flyer
COACH PRIME (Prat) and BARTHOLDY top this predictable race that is run once every autumn. Favorites crossed the wire first six of
the last eight dirt routes for 2yo maidens at this meet. COACH PRIME has something his main rival does not. That is, experience around
two turns. 'PRIME pressed a fast pace in his debut at a mile on turf, briefly made the lead into the lane, then got collared and finished third.
Promising debut, sharp works on dirt since, the $1.7 million colt is the one to beat. BARTHOLDY showed promise in his third-place debut
in a sprint. He raced greenly, dropped back on the turn, then re-rallied and finished evenly. Solid debut, he should move up a ton second
out. AMERICAN FLYER did improve in his second start; he finished third while improving his figure 25 points. He is headed the right
direction, while COLORADO CRUISER stretches out with a pair of sprints under his belt. Upset candidate?

                      Fifth Race
                      1. Pinehurst 2. St Ignacio 3. Smooth Salute
PINEHURST (Prat) drops from maiden special-weight to maiden-50 after a better-than -looked U.S. debut. The pace was slow,
PINEHURST ran his final three-eighths in a strong :35.08 while making his first start in more than a year. With a class drop second start
back, he can mow them down. ST IGNACIO is a 10-start maiden with five runner-up finishes including a pair on the DMR turf in
summer. He finished three-quarters of a length in front of the top choice last out. He will roll late, also. SMOOTH SALUTE, gelded
before his most recent start, drops for the first time into a maiden-claiming race after five futile tries vs. MSW rivals. He adds blinkers, and

                      about:blank 2/2
figures to be positioned in front of the top pair. AUTOLINE misfired with a tough trip last out, but fits off his fourth-place finish two starts
back over the DMR turf. That race was won by Dandy Man Shines, the choice to win the $75k Let It Ride Stakes (race 7).

                      Sixth Race
                      1. Wishtheyallcouldbe 2. Bella Renella 3. Scary Fast Ride
WISHTHEYALLCOULDBE, three-time winner at this Cal-bred N1X level, looks tough again. She likes the DMR surface (two wins,
two seconds), her last-out win was flattered when the third-place finisher returned to win a state-bred turf sprint. The sharp
'ALLCOULDBE goes first off the claim, in a field with pace to run at. Obvious choice, at corresponding low odds. BELLA RENELLA
ran like she needed the start two weeks ago; she merely ran around the track and finished fifth. That was her first start in four months; her
runaway wins in June at Santa Anita make her a fitting alternative to the top-choice favorite. SCARY FAST RIDE looked good crushing
maidens by nearly five lengths; she will be on top of the speed. LADY MARYANN will rally late. The last time she faced the top choice
over this racetrack, she missed by only a neck.

                      Seventh Race
                      1. Dandy Man Shines 2. Ah Jeez 3. Camilo
Late-developing DANDY MAN SHINES can win this stake for 3yo turf milers if he reproduces his smashing maiden victory over the
DMR turf two months ago. He ran his final quarter in a quick 23 seconds, his fast time for the mile was 1:34.57, he earned an 87 Beyer and
won clear making his first start in seven months. The win was validated when the third- and fifth-place finishers won next out. Although the
maiden win by 'SHINES was his eighth start, it was not a fluke. He has been well-regarded since he was imported from Europe in 2022,
running in a pair of 2yo stakes and facing good maidens that winter. He was gelded in January, took seven months off, and returned as a
new horse with the impressive maiden win. He's had two months between starts, and can fire right back. AH JEEZ stretches out and drops
after taking a shot in a G2 sprint vs. older. Although his two-turn ability is uncertain, both U.S. wins were on the DMR turf (sprints); his
third in the one-mile Oceanside Stakes at DMR in summer puts him in the hunt. Lightly raced CAMILO is a shipper from Kentucky, up in
class off a sharp comeback sprint win on synthetic. He ran well finishing second in a maiden turf route in spring; this is only his fourth
start. Produced by a Group 2-winning mare, CAMILO has upside. SMART MO has been compromised by several troubled trips. He might
be better than his recent starts indicate.

                      Eighth Race
                      1. Lonesome Stew 2. Nokie 3. Ze'bul
There is no guarantee LONESOME STEW will carry his speed two turns, but based on his 91-Beyer maiden sprint, he must be
considered the one to beat in this starter allowance dirt mile. In his Cal-bred maiden-claiming comeback, he shot to the lead and ran away
by more than six with a huge figure while "ridden out." The speed of the speed, they will have to catch him to beat him. Sired by Grazen,
'STEW was produced by a sprint dam whose seven winning foals all are sprinters. Tepid choice, nonetheless. If the stretch-out falters,
anything goes. NOKIE looms a potential upsetter, second start following a layoff of more than five months. He was rated early, finished
willingly for sixth, and galloped out with run after the wire. The fifth- and seventh-place finishers returned to win next time out. ZE'BUL
fits on numbers, but dirt is a question. His best races are turf. BENDETTIJOE stretched out crushed maiden-20s by open lengths. He has
found his niche around two turns. MIDNIGHT FURY goes long for the first time and will influence the pace.
