PSP's Data Driven NCAAB Free Pick: Quinnipiac -1
At Professionalsportspicks we see a future where those handicapping sports without advanced analytics and data-driven strategies will be left behind. Our data-driven picks use data integration, search and discovery, and knowledge management along with collaboration with our in-house handicappers. By isolating relevant trends, removing human bias, and targeting only lines with a positive expected value above a certain threshold, our data-driven picks promise to outperform any and all human competitors.
Our models suggest that the value is on the Quinnipiac Bobcats against Iona Sunday afternoon. The Bobcats are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games as a favorite and the Gaels are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
Key Angle: It's important to remember that Ricky never makes a bet on any game based on just one angle. In order to make the grade, all his premium picks must meet several important criteria. He doesn't share all his secrets within his analysis, instead he chooses to reveal only the angle that he feels is the most significant. Here in this game the recent history of these two teams is particularly significant.
- Girona are 8-1-1 in their last 10 home matches. - Girona are 4-1 in the last 5 meeting. - Sevilla are 2-5-4 in their last home matches. Verdict: The value is on the home favorite.
Sunday NFL Free play. My selection is on Tampa Bay plus the points (+6.5 -105) over Detroit at 3 pm et on Sunday. The Buccaneers continue to play with house money, winners of six of their last seven games to inexplicably reach the Divisional Round and a date with the Lions. This matchup isn't all that imposing for the Bucs offense. QB Baker Mayfield is the Comeback Player of the Year for my money, even if he is unlikely to win the award. Tampa Bay can sling it and were it not for a couple of big drops from elite WR Mike Evans against the Eagles on Monday, it could have easily approached 40 points (it won that game 32-9). Yes, that was a favorable matchup for Tampa Bay as the Eagles were mired in a major downturn. The Bucs will be heading into a 'Lion's den' (pun intended) on Sunday but I'm confident they'll be up for the challenge. Note that Tampa Bay, while not a dome team, has fared well indoors this season, winning 20-17 in Minnesota, 26-9 in New Orleans and 29-25 in Atlanta while losing 39-37 in Houston and 27-20 in Indianapolis. All told, the Bucs went 4-1 ATS in those contests. Note that Tampa Bay is a perfect 6-0 ATS in its last six games when seeking revenge for a loss against an opponent in which it scored 14 points or less, as is the case here. The Lions survived a tough matchup against the Rams last week. Note that they're just 21-32 ATS in their last 53 games following a win by a field goal or less. They're also 24-31 ATS in their last 55 contests as a home favorite of 3.5 to 7 points. Take Tampa Bay.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are on the road as they travel to face former NFC Central rivals the Detroit Lions. The Lions own a 32-28 advantage in their all-time series, including a 20-6 road win earlier this season. Tampa Bay finished the regular season by winning five of their last six games. During the regular season, the Buccaneers were 12th in scoring at 20.5 points per game, On the defensive side, they were 7th in points allowed at 19.1 points per game. Detroit won their first playoff game since 1991 and were rewarded with another home game after the Packers upset Dallas. The Lions ranked in the top five in most offensive categories, including 2nd in passing, 5th in rushing, and 5th in scoring at 27.1 points per game. The defense stepped up when needed against the Rams last weekend but for the season they finished 23rd in scoring defense at 23.2 points per game. When the Lions won the earlier meeting, they were able to the Buccaneers to 46 yards on the ground. Mayfield struggled, going 19 of 37 for 206 yards and an interception. Detroit was missing a few key players in that game and the return of James Houston to the defense which even in limited play should add to the pass rush. Detroit has given up at least 20 points in nine of their last 10 games. Detroit will win this game and I like them to ride the momentum from the home crowd to carry them to a 7-10 point win. MIKE'S CHIEFS/BILLS NFL FREE PICK The Kansas City Chiefs are 13-5 to the under while the Buffalo Bills are 11-7 to the under. The two quarterbacks are usually stealing most of the headlines, but note that KC has the 2nd best scoring defense and Buffalo the 4th best scoring defense. Buffalo won 20-17 at Arrowhead on Dec 10, and I think we'll see a similar amount of points scored in this game.
