600? BLUE JAYS RUN LINE (LIST Halladay and Floyd) - With a pitching mismatch taking place in Toronto, we’re going to lay the run line and list Roy Halladay and Gavin Floyd along with this top-rated winner. Where do I start? How about with the fact Halladay is a big reason the Blue Jays have opened the season 26-14 with a 7-1 mark and 2.95 ERA.
Not to mention the fact he rolls into this home matinee after throwing his first complete game of the year against the Yankees in this same venue last Tuesday. He was solid in limiting the Bombers to just one run on five hits, while striking out five. It also marked the third time in his eight starts this season that he didn’t walk one batter. He induced 16 groundouts, and gave up just two extra base hits. The win continues his torrid run this month, as he’s allowed just five earned runs over 25 innings of work in wins over Baltimore, the Angels and New York.
Now the former Cy Young winner gets a team he’s pitched well against, including an April 26 meeting, in which he allowed just three earned runs over seven innings at Chicago. In his last two home starts against the South Siders he’s allowed only one earned run while lasting at lease seven innings in both. I don’t see much changing today in this one.
As for the runs support he’ll be getting, we should have no trouble getting Halladay a big lead against Floyd, whose 9.00 road ERA should have Ozzie plenty concerned today. For the fourth time in seven trips to the hill this season, the Chicago right-hander failed to produce a quality start. The Indians shellacked Floyd on Monday, as he gave up eight runs on 11 hits over five-plus innings, including two batters he faced in the sixth. Floyd is now 0-2 with a 9.74 ERA in his past four starts and has allowed more double-digit-hit games this season (two) then he did all of last season. He’s already 0-1 with a 10.38 ERA against the Blue Jays this year and is 0-2 lifetime against them.
Today he takes the Rogers Centre mound for the first time in his career, and has a tough chore in trying to out-duel Halladay. I’ll lay the run line here and make the easy money with a blowout winner.
100? OVER Rockets/Lakers - The Lakers are fully capable of blowing the Rockets out in this one. On the contrary, the Rockets are just as capable of being competitive and keeping the margin tight in this Game 7 clash.
I don’t want to be the one making that choice for you, though, as I’m much more comfy in taking the high road in what will be a high-scoring affair. I know there are a plethora of numbers pointing to the under, but that’s even more of a reason this one should go over.
We’re in the seventh game of a series that should’ve probably ended in five, and we all know what the Lakers are planning on doing to escape to the Conference Finals. They’re going to run, and run some more, and then run all over the Rockets. Problem for the Lakeshow is, the marathon could very well be on since the Rockets have found offensive life in Aaron Brooks. This one goes into the 200s.
Note: Here in Vegas, the price ranges anywhere from Boston -145 to -150 and it's held steady at those numbers since Friday. Yes, there are a couple of -155's out there, but they're few and far between as I release this play. And as I check around offshore, I see a solid post of -150 just about everywhere as well.
