        Dominic Fazzini
        Sunday's play
15 Dime -- PHILLIES (Blanton) -1 1/2 runs over Cardinals (Wellemeyer)
        *
        PHILLIES
NOTE: List only Blanton as Philadelphia's starting pitcher
        *
Right-hander Todd Wellemeyer (7-8, 5.68 ERA) has been the weak link in the Cardinals’ rotation this season.
        *
He is 2-4 with a 6.51 ERA in his last nine starts, and has one quality start in his last 10 outings. He gave up five runs and seven hits in 4 1/3 innings Tuesday against Houston, which was the third time in four starts he failed to go at least five innings.
        *
Wellemeyer has been brutal on the road, too, going 3-3 with a 6.14 ERA in nine games (eight starts).
        *
Phillies starter Joe Blanton (6-4, 4.24), on the other hand, has been smoking hot. The right-hander is 4-1 with a 2.43 ERA over his last 10 outings, and has allowed two runs and 13 hits in 21 2/3 innings in three starts this month.
        *
Blanton has won two career starts against St. Louis, giving up two runs and eight hits over 13 innings.
        *
Wellemeyer hasn’t faced the Phillies yet this year, but he went 0-1 with an 8.68 ERA in two games against the world champs in 2008.
        *
With Philadelphia having won 16 of its last 19 games, it’s hard to bet against the NL East leader. With Blanton opposing Wellemeyer on the mound, it’s almost impossible. Take the Phillies on the run line in this one.

            Speculating Sports

St. Louis at Philadelphia 1:35pm EST
            Selection: PHILADELPHIA -1.5 +134
Profile: Huge pitching advantage with Blanton over Wellemeyer. Phillies bats are also red hot now, so it's worth the risk to take them on the run line. Philadelphia hammered St. Louis yesterday, and I look for a repeat performance today.
            2 UNIT SELECTION

NY Mets at Houston 2:05pm EST
            Selection: HOUSTON -148
Profile: Houston lost last night because of a huge offensive performance from the Mets. However, Gary Sheffield is now on the DL as well, so I don't expect a repeat performance from New York today. Brian Mohler has pitched well lately, much better than the Mets starter Livan Hernandez. Look for Houston to get the win at home, despite the injuries to Berkman and Erstad.
            2 UNIT SELECTION

Texas at Kansas City 2:10pm EST
            Selection: TEXAS -142
Profile: There is a huge pitching match-up today for Texas, with Kevin Millwood going against Sidney Ponson. Ponson was horrible in his last start, and I expect him to have problems against one of the best line-ups in baseball. Millwood is able to go deep into games, and he dominated the Royals in a 9 inning shutout performance earlier this year. Look for Texas to get the road win over a struggling Royals line-up.
            2 UNIT SELECTION

            Pittsburgh at Arizona 4:10pm EST
            Selection: ARIZONA -1.5 +120
Profile: This match-up is mostly based on hitting. The Diamondbacks have been red hot with their bats recently, especially at home. Arizona also has a substantial pitching advantage with Max Scherzer going against Pittsburgh's Virgil Vasquez. Scherzer has been inconsistent this season, but he has always bounced back strongly from a rough outing. In addition, Pittsburgh's line-up has really been struggling as the season has progressed, especially as more and more players have been traded away. Look for Arizona's bats to hit well again today.

                  KEVIN ROGERS

                  Pittsburgh at Arizona
                  Pick: Pittsburgh +165
a great fade this season off a huge outburst offensively, as the Pirates go for the series split this afternoon. Arizona is 6-15 this season when scoring at least seven runs in its last game, and 3-13 if they won that contest, off last night's 7-0 shutout. The D-Backs send out fireballer Max Scherzer to the mound, who has struggled at Chase Field. Scherzer owns a home ERA of 5.01, but has been bailed out by 22 runs of support his last three starts at home. Virgil Vasquez has been the opposite. The Pirates right-hander is coming off a solid start against the Brewers, allowing nine hits and 2 ER in 6.2 IP, but was on the short end of a 2-0 loss. Vasquez hasn't pitched poorly, despite a 1-4 record. His run support has been a problem, with the Bucs averaging 1.8 runs/game in his five starts. Arizona has failed to stay consistent all season long, and unless Dan Haren is pitching, there is absolutely no reason to lay this kind of chalk with the D-Backs. I'll side with the underdog Pirates to beat the D-Backs.

                        The Cowboy

                        4 Unit Play.

Take Over 151 between the Sacramento Monarchs @ Washington Mystics (Sunday @ 4pm est).

We are 5-1 this week in the WNBA. Let's roll with the Over to finish out the week strong. The "Tide" is changing in Sacramento as we would say as Bama faithful. Sacramento has slowly been turning their season around and yes, they are 4-14, but that is irrelevant to us. This team went into Conn and pushed as an 8 point dog and then won Outright at New York by 15 as a 5.5 dog. Just the 5.5 line alone in NY indicated that this team's calibre of play was changing as the public was buried in that game. In that same token, a similar 4.5 line is set here and once again it seems like the public might be buried. In that NY contest, the game went over the posted total as this team was an active dog and the final score was 88-74 (158) - the total was set at 142. Tack on the fact that Washington comes off a nice win over Chicago, they will likely get blindsided by Sacramento today who will push this game over the posted total as they take the Mystics to the limit - and possibly win outright (today's comp pick). The Over is 5-1 for the Monarchs after a SU Win and the Over is 4-0 for Washington when facing a team with a SU losing record.

                        4 Unit Play.

Take Under 9 between the Pittsburgh Pirates @ Arizona Dbacks (Sunday @ 4:10pm est).

Pitt comes off getting spanked 0-7 yesterday and one has to believe they will have a better effort today. At least when it comes to their starter they should get a quality start out of Virgil Vasquez as he has pitched in 6 straight unders and looks to pitch in his seventh straight under today. The young man used to pitch in the Tigers organization and the NL does not have a good gauge on his stuff yet. I look for him to pitch well as he still seeks his first win on the year despite pitching extremely well in Milwaukee giving up juts two runs in 6 innings. Scherzer is on a bounce-back today and he should also have a strong outing. Bear in mind four runs in 4 innings in his last start and prior to that he had put together four of five quality starts. The last time he was rocked like that was in March when the Braves hit him for 8 runs in 3 innings and he came back the next start to yield 0 runs in 5 innings at San Diego. The Under is 5-0-1 in Vasquez's last 6 starts as an Underdog and the Under is 5-2 for the Dbacks when they face a right-hander.
