          Unlocked Sports

          MLB

          1) Cincinnati Reds vs Milwaukee Brewers

          Pick: Milwaukee -1.5 (3 units)

The Brew Crew have lost the first 2 of this 3 game series versus the Reds, meaning that if they lose today they will be swept at home for only the second time this season. We don’t see this happening because the Reds are not strong enough to complete the sweep. Additionally, for what it’s worth, these teams opened a series in Milwaukee at the beginning of April. The Reds won the first two and then the Brewers came back to win the third game 9-3. Most books are listing +125 odds for Milwaukee on the runline. At this price, this play is definitely worth a shot.

Lay 3 units on the Brewers runline.

          2) Chicago White Sox vs Boston Red Sox

          Pick: Chicago (5 units)

          WNBA

          1) Atlanta Dream vs Detroit Shock

          Pick: Atlanta ML (2 units)

5-Unit Play. Take ‘Under’ 10.0 Chicago White Sox at Boston (7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 27)
This is my Game of the Week and I see another low scoring game. John Danks has put together three really good starts for the White Sox and the lefty should have his good stuff tonight against the Red Sox. On the other side, Junichi Tazawa is coming off a really good start (six innings, no runs) and has put together two quality starts in his three starts this month. Tazawa will be facing the White Sox for the first time which will be an advantage for him. He keeps the ball down and against a team that relies on the home run ball for so much offense. The 'under' is 7-1 in Chicago's last eight games, 12-4 in their last 16 road games, and 10-4 in John Danks' last 14 starts. Boston is just 1-5-1 against the total in their last seven games against the White Sox and Boston is 16-41-5 against the total in Game 4's. I think this one stays under by several runs.

4 Unit Play. #604. Take the Detroit Shock -3.5 over the Atlanta Dream (Thursday @ 7:30pm est). I love my Atlanta Dream. I enjoy watching them play but this is a tough spot for them. The Dream come off a big 20 point win over the Sacramento Monarchs. We were on the over in that game and it worked out for us - in fact, it was just earlier this week. They have defeated the Shock trice this season already by 5, 3 and 10 points. On top of that, with such a big win at home, I suspect the Dream might not have the edge today that they might otherwise have. Besides the Sparks, Detroit is on my list of teams that are streaking. They have really brought it together over the past week or so. This team is 12-14 and might actually make the playoffs despite a dismal start. Over the past four games, they have accomplished wonders. They have done this thorugh solid rebounding (4th in the league in defensive and 2nd in the league in offensive rebounding) and have improved their defense to 6th in the league in opponents points and 2nd in the league in opponents field goal percentage. This team went on the road to defeat Chicago 76-67 in a big win for this squad against a foe that is also competing for a playoff spot. Then, this team does not have a let down and wins back to back games against San Antonio and on the road at Connecticut. In fact, they have done something they have not done in quite some time - score back to back games worth of 90 points. With the Shock's momentum, I see it as very difficult for them to lose 4 times this season to the Dream. If this Detroit team can defeat a foe in Connecticut by 20 on the road, certainly, they can get up at home to defeat a team they have lost to three times to already this season. They have defeated a couple of contenders for a playoff birth already and Atlanta is likely next on the list at home.

                  WNBA PLAYS

3 Unit Play. #608 Take Los Angeles -3 ½ over Phoenix (Thursday 8/27 10:35 PM NBATV)

Phoenix has won both meetings with Los Angeles this season by an average of 12.0 points, but the Sparks haven’t been at full strength for either of the games. So tonight “Revenge” will be on the minds of the LA Sparks. The Sparks are 9-3 in August after winning their sixth straight and tonight they go for number 7. The LA Sparks are 16-6 ATS in their last 22 home games.

                    3 Unit Play. #926 Take LA Angels -1 ½ +105 over Oakland (Thursday 8/27 10:25 PM)

Angels pitcher Ervin Santana has been especially good this month, as he's won all four of his August starts and posted a very solid 3.33 ERA. The LA Angels have won six of nine meetings with Oakland thus far in 2009 and tonight we should see the same results. The Angels are 24-8 when playing a team with a losing record. The A’s are 1-5 in their last 6 meetings against the Angels.

                              TAMPA BAY VS. MIAMI

The Bucs play host to in-state rival Miami tonight. The Bucs are coming off a very solid performance in their win over the Jaguars last week. In that game both QBs, Leftwich and MCown, were effective combining for 12 of 21 at 2 TDs. The two will continue to battle for job security as it is almost certain the one that loses the battle will be traded away. Meanwhile, the Dolphins continued to look impressive in their 27-17 win over Carolina last week. Pennington and Company should start most, if not all, of the first half. Although the Fins have the depth and talent advantage some of this gets offset tonight by the fact the Bucs are expected to play their DBs deep into the game because of major injury issues with their backups. We also want to keep in mind that these two teams will meet during the regular season, in just 6 weeks, so game planning should be conservative and more vanilla than normal. The line is suspect with a 2-0 team playing the dog role against a re-building team – enough for me to side with the home team here, especially given the fact that we have a heated QB battle and DBs that should get extended time against backup QBs.

PREDICTION: TAMPA BAY 16 MIAMI 10

                              (TAMPA BAY -2)

                              CINCINNATI VS. ST. LOUIS

The Bengals return home off a nice 7-6 win over the New England Patriots while the Rams look to rebound off a tough 20-13 loss to the Falcons. Both starting QBs continue to nurse injuries and neither is expected to play tonight as a result. Bengals backup O’Sullivan looked solid last week despite his unit not scoring many points. However, it is Rams backup Boller who needs to step up and have a big night tonight. Boller was not so sharp in his performance and another lackluster performance tonight to could put his backup role at risk. Historically, when teams with poor records from the previous season are coming off a win over an average or above-average team from the previous season, they experience a letdown. Look for the Bengals to still feel a little too good after beating the Patriots and especially with the defense holding the Pats to just 6 points.

PREDICTION: ST. LOUIS 20 CINCY 13

                              (CINCY +3 -120)

                              PHILADELPHIA VS. JACKSONVILLE

The Eagles return home off a loss to the Colts and now play host to the Jags tonight in Michael Vick’s controversial, and much anticipated, return to the game. Vick is expected to be used in many positions tonight and perhaps even take some snaps at the QB spot. Meanwhile, the Jags leave the state of Florida for the first time after a one point loss to Tampa Bay. The Jags offense sputtered in their preseason opener but looked better last week despite losing. The key tonight is motivation – some will fall for the hype surrounding Vick, and the Eagles, but frankly I believe the more motivated team will be the Jags for a few reasons; first, teams at this level love playing the spoiler role and the Jags will be eager to do just that and ruin Vick’s return and next, Del Rio cares more about preseason than does Coach Reid and that is very well documented. Reid is only concerned with protecting the health of his starters and will look to get get Vick worked into their system and back to game shape while DelRio will approach tonight more like the regular season and use it as a measure of how much his team has improved over last year’s letdown team. It is worth noting the Jags are a perfect 4-0 SU and ATS in the preseason in their last 4 games following 2 or more consecutive losses. The Jags are also an impressive 12-2 ATS in road games in the last two weeks of the preseason since 1993, with an average margin of victory of 6.8. Meanwhile, the Eagles are just 1-7 ATS in their L8 preseason games against the AFC and are just 2-9 ATS L11 preseason games when coming off 2 or more consecutive OVERS.

                              PREDICTION: JACKSONVILLE 23 PHILLY 16
