549/550 Sacramento State at USC

Brian Katz and the Hornets were simply a terrible team a season ago ending the year with an RPI rating of 341. But this team is much better this season and in our opinion remain one of the most underrated squads in the country. Sacramento State brings a 4-5 record into play tonight with the losses coming against Rice, South Alabama, Idaho, Cal Riverside and Weber State. Only one of those losses were by more than 15 points and that was all the way back in their season opener. This is a very veteran team with 10 of their top 11 producers being upperclassmen. This is a very good defensive team that has shown the ability to be competitive on the road. They've already won outright at PAC 10 entrant Oregon State.

USC is off to a disappointing 2-4 start as their two victories came against Cal Riverside and Coppin State. Sure the Trojans have faced a tough overall schedule thus far but keep in mind this is a team that lost outright to Loyola Marymount. The Trojans don't take care of the ball ranking in the bottom 12 in the country in assist to turnover ratio. They also rank in the bottom 11 in defending the 3 pointer. It's tough to lay this kind of number if you can't protect the ball and you allow the opposition to hit from long range.

The PAC 10 hasn't impressed anyone this season and the Trojans simply do not deserve to be a double digit favorite here. Look for the Hornets to give the host everything they have in a game that means much more to the little school than the well known host.
