Re: 5-21-10
INSIDER ANGLES
While most of the betting world will be focusing on the first day of interleague play Friday, we see nice value in this good old fashioned National League matchup between the Atlanta Braves and the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Tim Hudson looks as good as he ever has for the Braves, while Ross Ohlendorf has looked good in his two starts back, tossing his first Quality Start of the season vs. the Chicago Cubs in his last outing. Add in two struggling offenses, and these teams do not expect to light up the scoreboard.
Hudson is 4-1 on the young season with a very nice 2.61 ERA and 1.13 WHIP. He is a perfect eight for eight in Quality Starts, while even more impressively allowing three runs just once and two runs or less in the other seven appearances. Hudson has also tossed 14 scoreless innings while allowing only seven hits in his last two starts vs. the Pirates, and he is facing a Pittsburgh lineup that is batting just .237 for the year including .190 vs. righties in the last 10 games.
Ohlendorf allowed two earned runs in five innings in his seasonal debut back on April 7, but he injured himself in that outing and then missed a month. He is showing no ill effects though, as he allowed one run on three hits in four innings while on a pitch count in his return and then allowed two runs on four hits in six innings vs. Chicago. He now gets to face an Atlanta lineup that is averaging only 4.05 runs per game with a .231 team average on the road.
The Under is 8-3-1 in the last 12 head-to-head meetings between these teams, and this pitching matchup suggests that pattern continues here on Friday.
MLB Free Pick: Braves, Pirates Under 8.5
