      Dave Cokin

      Matchup: Texas at Minnesota
      Time: 8:10 PM EDT (Fri)
Listed pitchers must go: (R) LEWIS, C vs. (R) SLOWEY, K

      Play: Minnesota (ML -125)

The Rangers have been a powerhouse at home, rolling along at a stellar .667 clip. But they're not nearly so daunting on the road, where Texas has dropped 12 of 20 away games. The Twins haven't dominated like they generally did at the Metrodome, but they're still getting used to their new surroundings and they're definitely winning more often than not at Target. As for the pitching, Kevin Slowey has been a bit of a disappointment, lasting more than six innings only once all season. But he was sharper in his last outing. Colby Lewis has been solid for Texas, but there are some warning signs for the righthander. His control has been off in his last couple of starts and that's a sign that may be entering a down phase. The Twins got a needed win over the Yankees on Thursday night, and I like the fact that Jason Kubel's bat may be heating up as that gives Minnesota a wicked trio of lefty bats that can do some real damage. I made the price on this contest a little higher than it showed, so there's enough value for me to go ahead and back the Twins tonight.

            Premium picks from Jimmy Boyd

5* NBA Eastern Conference Finals Game of the Year (ESPN) on Celtics -3
Boston has a very sour taste in its mouth after Game 5. Kendrick Perkins wrongfully ejected w/ 2 bogus technical foul calls, Glen Davis and Marquis Daniels enduring concussions and Rasheed Wallace twisting his back. Perkins will be back on the court tonight as one of his techs was rescinded, but Davis and Wallace are both game time decisions and Daniels is likely out. Boston was the more physical team through the first three games of this series, then it was severely outdone in the physicality department in Game 5. Look for Boston to respond at home tonight. Right away, I love the fact that favorites of 3.5 to 9.5 points, who are outscoring their opponents by 3 or more points per game, after a blowout loss by 15 points or more, are an incredible 84-36 ATS the last 5 seasons. In addition, favorites of 3.5 to 9.5 points revenging a same season loss vs. an opponent, off a road blowout loss of 20 points or more, are 40-16 ATS the last 5 seasons. Teams in these situations are winning by an average of 10 and 10.3 points respectfully. Boston is also 23-11 ATS when playing with double revenge - 2 straight losses vs. an opponent over the last 3 seasons, winning by 8.6 points on average in these spots. The Magic are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games as a road underdog of 4.5 or fewer points and the Celtics are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game. Look for Boston to bounce back strong and win this series tonight while covering the number in the process.

                        Friday's Selections ...
This Friday night in the NBA playofns, 20 Dime Do-or-Die Lock on the Boston Celtics minus the points at home against the Orlando Magic. I am also releascing another 10 Dime winner on the diamond on the Seattle Mariners with Cliff Lee to post the road win over the LA Angels and Scott Kazmir. Remember: both listed pitchers must start, or no actinn on the release.
The city of Boston is holding their colnective breath right now, as the thought of the Celtics following suit after their beloved Bruins lost 4 in a row is now very big, and very real.
Throw in a bunch of injuries for the Celts, and this game is not the "slam dunk" that it could be. Still, the G-Man will side with the home team in this one, as Boston will definitcely get a boost playing in front of their home fans.
Orlando gutted out the Game 4 overtime win to avoid the sweep in Beantown, but I don't see them coming up with another outright win this evening. Boston is still 6-2 against the spread their last 8 at home, and they are still 6-2 against the spread their last 8 playonf games overall.
Solid effort to get back in this series from Orlando, but the task is too tall for them tonight, especially on the road. G-Man on the Celtics minus the points for another 20 dime winner.
10 dime in baseball on Cliff Lee to outpitch Scott Kazmir in Anaheim.
Remember: both listed pitchers must start, or no action on the release.

                          Friday's winners ...
My 30-Dime Winner is on the Under between the Magic and Celtics. And as I relnase this play at 10 a.m. eastern, I see the line is 188 across the board. As I always say, be sure to shop for the absoclute best line possible immediatnly after reading my analysis.

The 20-Dime bonus total is on the N.Y. Mets with Johan Santana as the only listed pitcher.

                          ANALYSIS

Under Magic/Celtics - Can Orlando sustain its momentnm and win a third straight game against Boston, or can the proud, veteran Celtics will themselves to a home win?

These are very difficult quecstions. The best way to go in this pivotal Game 6 is under the total.

The Celtics failed to close out the series losing at home in Game 4. Predictably they were blown out in Orlando in Game 5 surrnndering 113 points. That was an aberration, though.

Boston will be much more defensive-minded at home, knowing a Game 7 in Orlando probably means a defeat and the stigma of being the first NBA team ever to blow a 3-0 series lead.

If you discount that Game 5, the Celtics are giving up an average of 85 points in regulation during their last seven playoff games. They are especially stingy when playing at home.

The Celtics caught a huge break in that the league rescinded one of the technical fouls called against center Kendrick Perkins. This enables him to play tonight. He's one of the few centers who can effectively guard Dwight Howard one-on-one.

Glen Davis (concussion) and Rasheed Wallace (back) are hurting and game-time decisions. I expect them both to play, giving the Celtics 18 fouls to use on Howard if necessary. Howard is one of the worst free throw shooters in the NBA hitting less than 60 percent.

The Magic are going to need Vince Carter and Rashard Lewis to hit perimeter shots. I have little faith in that happening. Both are excellent players, but are not exactly noted for their greatness in the clutch.

Lewis, hounded by Kevin Garnett, is shooting less than 36 percent in the series. Carter has a combined 11 points in the last two games on 4-of-19 shooting from the floor.

If Orlando wins it will be because of defense. The Magic, like the Celtics, have a top-five defense. The Magic, though, ranked No. 1 in defensive field goal percentage.

Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen are aging veterans who have tired legs. Allen missed eight of 11 shots from the field in Game 5. Garnett and Pierce are going to concentrate on the defensive end. Boston has averaged 93 points in its last six post-season games.

Even though this is a Game 6 it feels like a Game 7, especially for Boston. I see tremendous defensive intensity in this matchup. The total is priced fairly if not shaded a tad high due to Orlando's 113-point explosion in the last game. Under is the way to go.

Mets (Listing Santana - The Milwaukee Brewers have the worst home mark in the majors, an embarrassing 6-15.

Look for Cain to fall to 2-6 in his last eight team starts in this series here tonight.

Rivalry game in the Midwest. Carpenter has been great over the course of his career v ChC. He has a career 2.81ERA v ChC in 17 starts, including a 1.42ERA in his last 3 v the Cubbies. However, he's coming off a 6IP, 4ER, 8H appearance v LAA, not the dominant outing we've come to expect from the St. Louis ace. He has a 61-18 SO-BB ratio this season. Wells has 3 consecutive quality starts and a 45-11 SO-BB ratio on the season. Sabermetric analysis tells us much more. Wells has a 3.30 FIP mark while Carpenter's is 4.01. Remember, it's easy to think of FIP on the roughly the same scale that you think of for ERA. Plus, Wells' .326 BABIP and Carpenter's .277 BABIP suggests the gap might be wider. On a very basic level but as significant, Wrigley has been tough on the Cardinals, in general, as the Red Birds haven't won a series in the Friendly Confines since April of 2007. Nice value on the Cubs today w a jacked up crowd.

                                Orlando Magic vs. Boston Celtics

                                Total 188 ov-110

Orlando finally woke up on offense in Game #5 at home, making 52.2% of their shots while winning 113-92, but are still trailing this Playoff series 3-2. Game #6 moves back to Boston, where the Celtics are 11-3 (Over/Under) after allowing 105 or more points in their previous game this season! Now that this series can be tied up tonight, expecting tonight's game to be played with more emotion them from BOTH TEAMS compared to when Orlando slept through it's first 3 losses in low scoring affairs.
