75 DIME St. Louis Cardinals against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
And, this is very important, be sure to list both pitchers in this National League showdown, as I am playing Carpenter over the Dodgers' Hiroki Kuroda.
ANALYSIS
Cardinals - To get Chris Carpenter and the St. Louis Cardinals at this low of a price against a struggling Hiroki Kuroda makes this my strongest play of the season.
Carpenter easily can take his place among the best pitchers in baseball when healthy - and he's healthy again this season. He's 7-1 with a 2.76 ERA and 1.08 WHIP. He finished up a strong May with a 2.53 ERA and a 35-to-9 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
Perhaps the oddsmaker is thinking back to last year's playoffs when Carpenter wasn't at his best during a 5-3 Dodgers win by making this line so low.
Carpenter has a strong regular-season history versus Los Angeles, though, with a 5-0 record and 2.20 ERA. He'll be pumped to pitch well at Dodger Stadium after last season's post-season loss to Los Angeles.
Kuroda pitched well during the first six weeks of the season, but has since tailed off. He has a 10-to-7 strikeout-to-walk ratio in his last four starts, giving up a home run during each of his past four outings. He's allowed 30 hits during his last four starts spanning 22 innings.
Andre Ethier is back for the Dodgers, but he's been slumping since coming off the DL after suffering a broken right pinkie. He entered the series just 5-for-28 since returning.
