*Single Dime Play*

I’ve been alternating my side plays in the finals and tonight I’m doing the same as I feel that the Celtics have more chances to win and tie the series 2-2.

The Lakers won the game 3 behind a good first half by showing a stellar defense. As I've been saying the Celtics need badly to hit some treys just to oblige the Lakers defense to spread more on the floor otherwise the Lakers D will crack up the middle and players like Rondo will struggle to score.

Of course I’m not expecting a similar performance like in game 2 wiƒth Ray Allen hitting 8 treys but with a 4-18 mark the Celtics surely won’t win against LA. At the break Ray Allen was 0-4 from the field and Paul Pierce was 1-7 FG so we have a pretty good explanation of why the score was 40-52 HT. Paul Pierce played through foul trouble and still their +/- team points with him on the court was +1. Ray Allen was obviously the non factor for the Celtics and with him on the court the Celtics were outscored by 10 points! For tonight I expect a bounce back from the Celtics behind Allen and Pierce better play.

After being torched by Kobe Bryant in game 1, the Celtics are doing a great job in containing him. Ray Allen, Pierce, Tony Allen and even Rajon Rondo all are rotating to give Bryant different looks. However the X factor for tonight will be the frontcourt battle.

In the first two games the Lakers “bigs” dominated and scored with ease. Pau Gasol combined to shot 15-24 from the field and Bynum 10-16 from the field. I remember that the media made a big deal about Garnett being dominated by Gasol. However in the last game these two players went 8-20 from the field and the Celtics outscored the Lakers 50-38 in the paint! We are talking about a team that had scored 30 and 36 points in the paint in the first two games and suddenly scores 50 points! I’ve read some news saying that Bynum is hobbling with his knee because he doesn’t have the necessary time to recover.

After having time to rest for game 1 and game 2 both teams had only 1 day off to rest for game 3 and for tonight’s contest once again they had only one day to rest so I don’t expect Bynum to have a big impact in the game. With a better performance from Pierce and Allen (which is highly expected) the Celtics will win this contest.

I’m also taking the Under in this contest. I’ve already said that it is extremely tough to score against these two teams as we are dealing with two terrific defenses. The high number of FT’s noticed in the first two games was an abnormality! With less time to rest for game 3 the pace of the game significantly decreased, here’s my numbers:

Pace Game 1: 87.11
Pace Game 2: 91.43
Pace Game 3: 81.66

As you can see the drop from game 2 to game 3 was huge. For tonight I expect a similar number and so we have some edge with the Under because only terrific %’s from the field will prevent the Under to cash and I just can’t see that happening.

This is the NBA. The NBA is about making money and a short series is what no one wants, from David Stern to the refs. Rest assured Boston played deplorable in Game 3, got ribbed numerous times by bad calls on the refs, and were outcoached big time. I doubt Ray Allen stinks it up and I think the defense will stiffen up and the Celtics take one at home here without question tonight. The Garden will be electric, everyone will have their A game and the under still may be in play in this one and worth a look as well. Look for Boston to even the series here with a 5-7 point win. It will be a tight one, so hang on.
