Game: Boston Red Sox at Colorado Rockies Jun 23 2010 8:40PM
Prediction: Boston Red Sox
Reason: 25* graded play on Boston as they take on Colorado set to start at 8:40 EST. Our proprietary sports handicapping model and simulator shows a high probability that Boston will win this game. Supporting this graded play is a system that has produced a record of 123-128, but has made a whopping 73.7 units since 2004. Play against all favorites with a money line of -150 or more averaging 2.75 or less extra base hits per game on the season and after a win by 2 runs or less. The average play has been a +164 dog. Here is a second system that has gone 68-63, but here again has exploiting false favorites averaging a +175 DOG play and making 56.4 units since 2004. Here is a third system that has gone 64-30 and has made 39.1 units since 2004. Play on any team that is hitting = .265 to .279 facing a strong NL starting pitcher posting an ERA <=3.70 in games played in June. Jimenez has been on a historic record breaking streak, but based on our simulator that scans 15+ seasons of games this is going to be a real struggle for him. Boston has a very potent lineup; arguably one of the best in MLB. Francona is 29-13 (+16.0 Units) against the money line versus NL teams allowing 4.3 or less runs/game on the season. Tracy is just 43-72 (-34.1 Units) against the money line after scoring 2 runs or less 2 straight games in all games he has managed since 1997. Boston is batting 297 with a 356 OBP over the last 7 games and are batting 301 with a 359 OBP in 13 inter-league games. The Boston pen may be even better sporting a 1.40 ERA and a 0.931 WHIP over the last 7 games. in those 13 inter-league games they have posted a 2.12 ERA and a 1.029 WHIP. Run support is also going to be a factor in this game as the Rockies are batting 211 and scoring just 3.1 RPG over their past 7 games. The bullpen is in shambles posting a 6.75 ERA and a 1.788 WHIP over the past 7 games. Lackey has pitched far better than his ERA and other flash stats would otherwise indicate. Let’s break it down. He throws FB, slider, and curve and will throw all of them on any count in the AB. Batters are hitting just 215 on the slider and 205 on the curve and these pitches will be lethal against a cold hitting team like the Rockies. He has allowed 1 HR in his last 5 starts. Boston hitters know that Jiminez has thrown 19% of his pitches in the low and away area. Would not be surprised at all to see Boston RH batters crowd the plate a bit during the first time through the lineup. He works low and in and up away to LH batters more than 39% of the time. This is the time of the year where scouting reports begin to pay off and no doubt Boston is one of the few teams that will not be intimidated and wlil have a sound plan of attack. Take Boston.

Analysis:
Play on Minnesota at 8:10 EST – The Twins dropped the first game of this series last night 7-5. Tonight, they send their ace Liriano who’s been spectaular this season, depsite only having an 8-5 team start record. The Twins lefty has a 2.98 ERA with a 1.198 WHIP. He’s been even sharper of late. In his last three outings he’s posted a 2.05 ERA, striking ou€t 27 opposing hitters in just 22 innings of work. Meanwhile, the Brewers give the ball to Parra tonight who will be making only his fifth start of the season. Two of those starts have been here in Milwaukee and he’s been roughed up for in only 9 innings pitched. In fact, Parra is only giving the Brewers 4.9 innings per start. That means that the Brewers pen will be in action tonight and that’s a problem. Milwaukee’s bull pen has a 5.73 ERA and has blown 50% of their save opportunities. Look for Liriano to go 7 or 8 strong innings and turn it over to the Twins pen who’s sporting a 2.95 ERA. Finally, Liriano has been very effective against these Brewers with a perfect 3-0 team start record and sprarkling 2.00 ERA. Minnesota is hitting .311 in their last seven games and they should have no trouble beating up Parra tonight and providing plenty of support behind Liriano. Good Luck. Play on Minnesota.
