Free NFL Pick From Jason Sharpe: Take #216 'Under' 41 Philadelphia at Detroit (1 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 19)

With two backup quarterbacks expected to start the game you can expect a conservative game plan from both teams here. Both teams understand the importance of this game and not wanting to fall to 0-2 to start the season. Neither team wants to beat themselves, so look for both to try and play error free football. The Eagles with Coach Andy Reid usually go on the road and try not to do too much, especially when going against losing type teams like the Lions. In fact, Philadelphia has gone 'under' in 22 of their last 30 road games when facing a team with a losing record. It's more about getting into town, taking care of business, doing nothing fancy and getting out of town with the win for the Eagles. Detroit knows things are different now that they have lost their starting quarterback Matt Stafford. In order for Detroit to win they must now take the pressure off his backup Shaun Hill by establishing their running game. Head coach Jim Schwartz has talked all week abo! ut how the Lions must do a much better job of running the ball and so there will be a big emphasis in doing that in this game.

Free NFL Pick From Robert Ferringo: Take #235 New York Giants (+5.5) over Indianapolis (8 p.m., Sun., Sept. 19)

After reviewing the tape of last Sunday the Colts were one of the four or five worst teams that I saw. Their offensive line is in shambles and their run defense was stunningly bad (news flash: Arian Foster isn’t THAT good). The Colts are a soft team right now. And I am not laying points to a live dog with a soft team. The Giants are always feisty when they are catching points and 1-53 they are a much better team than the Colts right now. New York is an excellent 23-8 ATS on the road and the Colts are always overrated after a loss (1-5 after a SU defeat). Indy gave up an average of 39 points per game in the preseason and then were lit up for 38 by Houston. Until they show any spine there is now way you can lay points with this group. I like an outright upset and some alarms to start going off in Indy after this one.

                    10* TENNESSEE
LT Max Starks and NT Casey Hampton are the latest Steelers to be sidelined, joining RT Willie Colon and QBs Ben Roethlisberger and Byron Leftwich. Veteran center Justin Hartwig was beaten out by promising No. 1 pick Maurkice Pouncey. That means there will be three backups/rookies starting in the Pittsburgh OL this Sunday at raucous LP Field, where opposing linemen had more false starts than any other stadium LY! And this doesn’t even consider the Tennessee offense, which has been rejuvenated since the return to the lineup LY of the more-mature Vince Young, who is now more careful with the ball and able to spot secondary receivers. The Titan defense is one of the more aggressive in the league, so inexperienced QB Dennis Dixon (only his third start) will have his hands full, especially if the runs of the marvelous Chris Johnson put Pittsburgh in an early hole.

TOTALS: UNDER (36) in the Tampa Bay-Carolina Game—Both teams good on defense; shaky at QB...UNDER (44) in the Houston-Washington Game— Houston loves its new clock-eating ground game; Washington offense still developing; good-friend coaches Shanahan & Kubiak know each other’s favorite plays!
