WUNDERDOG (MLB)
MLB 40-29 last 69 picks +$2330
1 OF 3
Game: Texas at Seattle (10:10 PM Eastern)
Pick: Seattle +100 (moneyline)
The Texas Rangers, after making their franchise debut in the World Series a year ago, are finding things more difficult this season as teams gun for the AL Champs. Seattle is hovering at a bit below .500 and is vastly improved over last years debacle that saw the M's fall prey to the loss column 101 times. The M's turn to Jason Vargas who has recorded six wins on the season, but five of those have come at home. Derek Holland has taken his lumps this year as he has allowed 3 runs or more in seven of his last nine starts, which has put his ERA over the stretch right on the 5 mark. He certainly hasn't taken advantage when facing losing teams on the road where the Rangers are 0-6 in his last six starts. The M's have done a nice job of bouncing-back off a poor offensive showing where they scored 2 or less, following by going 15-7.
Play on Seattle in this one.
These teams hit the All-Star break heading in opposite directions, with Seattle losing five straight and Texas winning seven in a row. Roles, however, have been reversed, with the Rangers back on the road and the Mariners now home again at Safeco Field. Moreover, Seattle can call upon starter Jason Vargas, with a 2.35 ERA in his last three starts and a winner in his earlier start this season vs. Texas, allowing just one run in 7 2/3 IP. Meanwhile, Rangers starter Derek Holland has been inconsistent in his efforts, allowing 12 runs over two starts previous to a four-hitter against the A's last Thursday. Play Mariners
