Reasoning: There is no way in the world that I can ever trust the underachieving AJ Burnett. Meanwhile Dan Haren is a borderline superstar hurler but at this price in the Bronx I’ll take my chances on the home Yankees.
Anaheim’s offense is very mediocre and we have seen some glimpses from Burnett at times. I’m not expecting a complete game shutout by any means but the Angels offense has not just produced. As of last week Mike Scioscia’s club was shut out more than any team in the game and even though they have some pretty good parts with Abreu, Hunter, Kendrick and Trumbo the sum just does not equal all that much.
The Yankees fell in that heartbreaker two nights ago at Boston and lost the series because of it. But New York was very competitive through and through in Fenway and is still a team that is hot in my book. In fact they even seem a bit better without Arod. That may sound crazy but these guys just have a superior quality and feel and confidence to them right now then they did with him.
Cano, Teixeira, Jeter, Swisher, Granderson and others form a high-powered offense that is light years better than the Angels. If Haren can come into the Bronx and get the best of the Bombers and we lose than so be it. But at this price with the much better everything except for starting pitching I’m willing to back Burnett and the Yanks and take my chances.
