Texas Rangers vs. Los Angeles Angels
A huge series for the Texas Rangers opens up Monday night in Anaheim where they’ll look to build upon their lead in the AL West against the 2nd place Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim; first pitch from the Big A is set for 10:05 ET.
The Rangers have coasted atop the division standings for a majority of the 2011 season. Manager Ron Washington’s outfit has compiled a 68-52 overall mark, and after taking the first two games of their weekend series with the A’s, they’ll invade Anaheim a +$$$ team regardless of what goes down Sunday. As it is, the ‘Gers sit an even 29-29 away from the Ballpark in Arlington (-$43). Their series finale with Oakland pending, Texas is 22-12 against divisional opposition this season.
The Angels only trailed the Rangers by a single game back on August 2nd, but since, manager Mike Scioscia’s squad has gone on to win just five of their L/10 games and now find themselves three-games off the pace. Still, this gritty outfit sits 10-games over the breakeven point with 42 games remaining on the regular season schedule. If they are to punch their ticket back to the playoffs after a year hiatus, the Halos must win if not sweep this four-game series and then take care of both Baltimore and Chicago on the remaining home stand. LA’s up $125 for its betting backers as a host to date (32-25).
These division rivals have squared off nine times in 2011 with the home team winning five times and the ‘under’ cashing for total players six times; LA holds the 5-4 series advantage. Texas has recently dominated divisional opposition of late winning 16 of its L/21 match-ups, but is also just 2-5 its L/7 trips to Anaheim. Alexi Ogando is 2-0 with a sparkling 0.41 ERA and .176 BAA vs. the Halos in a pair of starts this season. Anaheim has tallied victories in 17 of its L/22 home games, and has gotten out to good starts winning Game 1 of a series 18 of the L/24 times. This will be Garrett Richards’ first career look at the Rangers potent offensive lineup.
