8 Unit Play Take #908 Atlanta -155 over Washington (7:10pm est):
When you release a Game of the Year selection you want every edge in that game and also a no doubt in your mind winner and I feel very confident we have that here.
The Atlanta Braves have been one of the best home teams in baseball again this season, this comes a year after leading the entire league in home victories. If there one is one team in baseball that is built to play in their home park it's the Braves. They go with veteran right-hander Derek Lowe in this one. Lowe is getting himself into post-season mode here late in the season as he is pitching his best ball of the year right now. This is nothing new as Lowe has had a rock solid 2.25 ERA combined over the last three September's. Some pitchers tire late in the season not Lowe who actually gets stronger as the season goes on. The Braves together with Lowe at home and on the hill are always too beat and this year has been no different as they have won seven of his last ten home starts coming into this one and Lowe also dominates the bad opponents winning five of his last six starts in Turner Field against teams with losing records.
On the other end of things the Washington Nationals continue to be one of the worst road teams in baseball again this year with an awful 26-42 mark away from home as they really struggle offensively. The key to this play lies mainly with Nationals pitcher John Lannan and his recent form. Lannan was hit by a line drive in a game about two months ago and since that outing he hasn't been the same pitcher in certain areas. Since that incident he has allowed 5.29 walks per nine innings over his last eight starts. Though it hasn't come back to bite him quite yet, he has been really flirting with danger of late. Before the liner Lannan was pitching some of his best baseball of the season as he had allowed an average of just 1.54 walks per nine in his previous five starts. Obviously something isn't right with the young southpaw pitcher. The Nats did pull out game one of this series last night but it was just their first win in their last seven games overall.
The Braves are a top notch organization and a very proud one at that. Last night's loss was an ugly one for them and the fact they haven't done so well against Lannan this year should get their full attention here in this one tonight. This line with these two teams in Atlanta should be closer to -200 and has some great value. Take the Braves in this one. Big college football weekend kicks off tomorrow and I am locked and loaded and ready to go. I won 12 of my first 13 weeks last year and am off to a 3 for 3 start this year on the gridiron, showing a profit every single week so far to start the year. No one comes in more prepared than me to start a sports season and once again it shows with my recent success. Get on board and join in the winning.
3-unit Play Take #902 Los Angeles Dodgers (-145) over San Diego Padres (3:10pm ET) Today's afternoon matchup between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres features starting pitchers that are on opposite ends of the spectrum. The Dodgers' Ted Lilly is back to his old self after struggling with an injury for the first part of the season. The crafty left-hander has an impressive 2.20 ERA in his last five starts to go along with his 28-8 strikeout-to-walk ratio. On the other hand, San Diego's Wade LeBlanc has struggled for most of the season between the minor leagues and the big leagues. The southpaw is 2-3 with a 5.02 ERA on the season and nearly half of his starts have been in pitcher-friendly Petco Park. He probably isn't major league starter material yet but the Padres are giving him a chance to get some experience as they are out of contention.
The Dodgers offense has been hitting on all cylinders lately, a far cry from how they've been hitting for most of the season. Over their last 12 games they have averaged 6.41 runs per game, most of which has come on the road. They've been led by MVP-candidate Matt Kemp who has posted sensational numbers and has been on a tear of late. Kemp is batting .321 with 31 home runs, 101 RBI, 87 runs scored and 35 stolen bases, and there are still close to 30 games remaining on the schedule. The Padres offense has been plain bad all season long, but the last six games have been especially challenging. In five of their last six contests the Padres have scored either 0 or 1 runs. The Dodgers are 19-5 in their last 24 games as a favorite while the Padres are 7-16 in their last 23 games as a road underdog. The Dodgers are clearly the better team in today's matchup and they should be able to get the job done in Dodger Stadium this afternoon. Best of Luck - Doc's Sports
