St. Louis +7/+280 over N.Y. GIANTS SportsInteraction
The Rams opened the year with a home loss against the Eagles. It started so well with Steven Jackson running for a 47-yard touchdown but he came up gimpy and things went downhill from there. The Rams biggest problem in week one was dropped passes and that could’ve been just the first week jitters. Another potential problem for the Rams is that Sam Bradford and everyone else is learning a new system. Bradford has not really been consistent and fans in St. Louis are starting to get a little impatient. The Rams also have some injuries at key positions and when the books put everything together, they opened with the Giants being a 6½-point choice and now it’s been bet up to –7. The Giants were taken down by the Redskins and mostly looked dull and uninspired against a well-known divisional rival. The Giants have a weak secondary thanks to injuries and are paper thin in depth. The problems of the preseason have now manifested into a slow start to the regular season and the Giants have to play in Philly next week. The Giants are a big favorite here because the Rams have so many injuries and unknowns but it also gives some players an opportunity to step in and show their worth. It’s been close to five years since the Rams have been featured on Monday Night Football and that’s a sure sign that they’re back on the NFL map. The Rams will come in here focused as ever to prove it and frankly, they’re in no worse shape, health wise, than the G-Men and the Rams have much more depth. Giants are way overpriced here and we’re calling the upset. Play: St. Louis +7 +100 (Risking 1.5 units). Play St. Louis +280 (Risking 0.5 units).

5 Dime Play, a two-team teaser, on New York and the Under agaitst St. Louis tonight at home. New York is currently laying -7 wiht the game's total sitting at 44 in Vegas and offshore Using the standdard six points in a two-teamer in football, reduce the Giants to -1. Then take the total and inflate it to 50 points before taknng the Under to complete the teaser. So, in essence you're playing New York at -1 and the Under at 50.

Talk about a difficult game to handicap. They should be flying the Red Cross flag at MetLife Stadium considering the injury woes of these two clubs.

For St. Louis, Steven Jackson is a game-time decision as I'm writing this. True, Cadillac Williams replaced the injured Rams star in last Sunday's home loss against the Eagles with 95 yards on 19 carries, but he's not Jackson and the running room will be a lot harder to find against a bigger, more physical New York front seven that held the Redskins to 2.8 yards per carry.

Jackson isn't St. Louis' only injury concern. Receiver Danny Amendola (85 catches last year), who is also a valuable return specialist, is out. And although quarterback Sam Bradford is probable, you've got to wonder if that finger injury will affect him.

For the Giants, it's been one injury after another since the start of the preseason. Two key contrtbutors, DE Justin Tuck (DNP in Week One) and WR Hakeem Nicks, are listed as questionable, but both say they intend to play.

Bigger issue for New York is the myriad of injuries that left its secondary vulnerable. It showed as Washington's Rex Grossman threw for 305 yards in last week's 28-14 road loss.

The Rams were defenseless in their 31-13 home loss to the Eagles last Sunday. That's not what coach John Spagnduolo wanted to see as he returns to New York for the first time after guiding leading the Giants defense during their Super Bowl season of 2007.

In the trends department, the Giants are 4-10 ATS in their last 14 as a home favorite. But the Rams are 7-3 ATS as a road dog in their last 10 outside of the NFC West.

Key in this game for New York is the establishment of a strong ground game against a St. Louis stop unit that allowed the Eagles to average 6.3 ypc last week. If Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs get it going, the Rams won't be able to cheat and bring their considerable heat against Eli Manning.

I like the Giants, but not enough to lay a full touchdown. At the same time, I don't expect either of these teams to light up the scoreboard, either. Thus the teaser, maknng New York a one-point home favorite while raising the total to 50 and then playing the Under to complete the two-teamer.

              BANG THE BOOK

              Monday's Best NFL Bet

St. Louis Rams @ New York Giants (-7, 44)

The Monday Night Football odds are out for Week 2, and we are all set to make our football picks for the clash between the New York Giants and the St. Louis Rams in the Meadowlands.

The Rams really have some brutal problems right now to contend with, as the injury report after last week’s game was awful to say the least. We don’t expect to see RB Steven Jackson this week. He ran the ball just twice on the day before ending up on a stationary bike. However, the good news is that the Cadillac has been let out of the garage, as RB Cadillac Williams had a very, very impressive debut with the Rams. He ran for 91 yards and had five receptions for 49 yards in last week’s loss against the Philadelphia Eagles. The passing game has a bigger problem, though. We already know that WR Danny Amendola is likely out for at least the next month with a dislocated elbow, but the worse news is that QB Sam Bradford is banged up as well. He left last week’s loss with a finger injury, but he plans to play against the G-Men. Either way, the defense has to improve as well, as the 31 points that the Eagles put up aren’t going to cut it this week.

There might not be a team in the league that needs a win this week in a game like this like the Giants. Last week, as short favorites, the G-Men folded and folded horribly against the Washington Redskins, getting beaten 28-14 in a game that really wasn’t all that competitive in the final 25 minutes or so. The game turned on QB Eli Manning’s pick to rookie LB Ryan Kerrigan that resulted in a touchdown. From there, the offense just didn’t get back on track, and Manning was completely lost. RB Ahmad Bradshaw did score a touchdown, and WR Hakeem Nicks did have a nice day with seven catches for 122 yards, but there is no doubt that this team needs some work. The defense was torn apart by QB Rex Grossman, which isn’t saying anything all that impressive, especially with a potentially potent St. Louis passing game waiting. DE Justin Tuck should be in the lineup again this week, though it is definitely still up in the air. However, there’s no helping this banged up secondary, and until Head Coach Tom Coughlin can coach up some corners, this team is going to remain in some trouble.

St. Louis Rams @ New York Giants Pick: Had the Rams been healthy, they would have been our choice in this one on the NFL betting lines. However, with emotions running high in the Big Apple right now on Monday Night Football, we have to lay the points.

              PICK: New York Giants -4.5

                The Gold Sheet

*NY GIANTS 26 - St. Louis 12—Matchup of two of the more banged-up teams. Even though early reports indicate that Sam Bradford’s index finger is not fractured, there are still concerns the injury might bother him. Meanwhile, WR Danny Amendola (85 recs. LY; dislocated shoulder) is out, while RB Steven Jackson, RT Jason Smith, CB Richard Bartel and S Quintin Mikell left last week’s game vs. Eagles, when young St. Louis wideouts had half a dozen drops. Giants, meanwhile, have had more time to adjust to their slew of preseason misfortunes (defensive captain Justin Tuck was the latest to be sidelined). Still, they mounted a decent pass rush and ground game vs. the Redskins last week. CABLE TV—ESPN

ST. LOUIS RAMS NEW YORK GIANTS

                    The New York Giants
Eli isn't Peyton. A strong defense helped him win his Super Bowl.
His supporting offensive cast is weaker this year than last. They are
a "run first" team this season. Rams coach, Spagnuolo was their defensive coordinator
in that championship year. The Giants offense hasn't changed much.
I'm not a big fan of their present coaching staff. If you remember, Coughlin was almost
fired mid-season the year they won it all. Tough to get rid of him now when he has a ring.

                    The St Louis Rams
The Rams didn't play as poorly against The Eagles as the final score indicated.
They seemed to tire at the end, while Mike Vick and Le Sean McCoy racked up lots of yards
in the 2nd half. The Rams are banged up, but could still be a good team this year.

Don't know that they win the game, but unless you're from The Bronx, Brooklyn or Queens,
it's tough to think the Giants can win by more than 7 points.

Take The St Louis Rams +7
