      SPORTS WAGERS

      San Diego +106 over COLORADO

This is a tale of two starting pitchers closing out the season in opposite directions. Mat Latos is coming on big time while Jhoulys Chacin appears to be running on fumes. Chacin’s strikeout rate is way down recently with just four K’s in two September starts. He has just 16 K’s over his past 26 innings. Chacin has not made it out of the sixth inning in three straight starts and over that span he faced the Giants, Dodgers and Reds. Over his last three starts, Chacin has walked 11 batters while whiffing 10. These are all signs of a guy that’s fatigued and it also appears that the Rocks management is being cautious with him in terms of pitch count. Chances are he doesn’t go more than five innings. Latos is the complete opposite. He’s struck out 24 while walking three in his last three starts. His groundball rate is up over the past month, his ERA is down and Latos has added some velocity to his fastball over that stretch. That’s a sign he’s in mid-season form and not in “getting ready to shut it down” mode like his counterpart is. Play: San Diego +106 (Risking 2 units).

San Francisco Giants vs. Los Angeles Dodgers
Two of the biggest rivalries in all of baseball are set to meet up in Tuesday’s series opener of their final meeting of the season when former NL Cy Young Award winner Tim Lincecum leads the San Francisco Giants into battle against the Los Angeles Dodgers and this year’s potential NY Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw; first pitch from Dodgers Stadium is set for 10:10 ET.
It might be too little too late for the defending champion San Francisco Giants who find themselves five-games out in the NL West and four-games out in the NL Wild Card race with only nine-games left in their 2011 campaign. Having said that, manager Bruce Bochy’s men aren’t going down without a fight. San Fran enters this spot amidst an eight-game winning streak and has won 11 of their 16 September tussles (+$471). Their current hot streak has kept them alive in both races, while at the same time, almost got them in the black for their betting backers on the year (-$57). The Giants have been a decent investment away from AT&T Park winning 39 of their 75 games played as a visitor (+$226).
This has been a lost season for the Dodgers franchise. From MLB taking over the team’s finances, to the myriad of injuries the team has been plagued with, manager Don Mattingly’s squad is set to turn the page on 2011 and look forward to next season. They do however sit an ever 76-76 on the year (-$191) and winners of three in a row heading into tonight’s colossal pitching match-up. They just took two of three from the Pittsburgh Pirates in most dominating fashion outscoring the Buccos 30-10 in the four-game set. In doing so, the team improved to two-games over .500 as a host (40-38), but have still cost their supporters $535 when playing in Chavez Ravine on the year.
This has been a healthy rivalry this season with the Giants holding a slim 8-7 lead in the team’s fifteen 2011 meetings; the O/U has played to a 7-6-2 tally. The Giants are 17-14 in Lincecum’s 31 overall starts to date. He’s 7-5 with a 2.02 ERA & .211 BAA as a visitor and stands 5-3 with a 2.87 ERA & .219 BAA in his career against the Dodgers. LA has won 21 of Kershaw’s 31 overall trips to the bump. He’s tossed seven straight quality starts and is 11-1 with a 1.72 ERA & .188 BAA in his 15 Dodgers Stadium starts to date.
            PICK: LA/SF UNDER

Game: Tampa Bay at New York Yankees (7:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: Tampa Bay +1.5 runs -140 (runline)

The Yankees are in control in the AL East, but more by way of default as the Red Sox have gone 6-15 in their last 21, with Tampa Bay now one game behind in the loss column in the wildcard chase. The Bombers are not exactly reaping the harvest of late either at 5-7 in their last 12 games, as the pitching has faltered. The Rays are playing better than anyone now in the East at 29-15 over their last 44 games. The Rays' solid pitching has also led them to a 14-7 mark in their last 21 vs. a winning team. Ivan Nova saw his string of pitching in 12 straight Yankees wins turn into two straight Yankees losses. The Rays are getting it done behind Davis at 7-2 in his last nine starts. Take Tampa Bay on the runline
