      SPORTS WAGERS

      Pittsburgh +169 over ARIZONA

The D-Backs are very likely going to the postseason with a comfortable 5½-game lead on the Giants. However, these last few games to clinch are the hardest to win and Wade Miley is not a pitcher you want to be laying –180 with under these conditions. Miley has started six games since his call-up a month ago. His 4.24 ERA is average but everything else suggests he needs a lot more time in the minors. Miley's BB/K ratio of 17/22 in 34 IP is bordering on awful. His velocity and command are inconsistent due to his erratic mechanics. Despite control problems he's been able to avoid disaster because of pure luck. His groundball rate is low (37%), his strand rate is high (78%), and his xERA of 4.86 over his past four starts suggests a serious correction in his numbers are forthcoming. Ross Ohlendorf has a 6.82 ERA over just seven starts. He started two games in April before landing on the DL and has made five starts since coming off the DL. The guy is mediocre to be sure. He has good control and a low 90’s fastball. He could get rocked but he’s also capable of throwing a decent game, as he’s done in two of his last four starts. On Sept 15, Ohlendorf went seven full against the Dodgers, allowing just four hits, striking out six and walking none. The real value here is playing against Miley as a ridiculous –180 favorite. Play: Pittsburgh +169 (Risking 2 units).

San Francisco –104 over LOS ANGELES

Dana Eveland is 2-1 with a 2.25 ERA in three starts with the Dodgers since his call-up. Here’s a guy that’s been on three teams, the A’s, Pirates and Blue Jays over the past three years and all three teams couldn’t get rid of him fast enough. Last season he went 3-5 with a 6.79 ERA for Toronto and Pittsburgh combined. At Triple-AAA Albuquerque this season he posted an ERA of 4.38. The last two years shows what kind of pitcher he really is, and there is not a lot of call for a soft-tossing lefty with poor control despite his decent GB%. Bad luck? Yes, but also a bad pitcher that’s a complete disaster waiting to happen. The Giants are 25-15 against lefties. For the first time all year they’re hitting. In fact, the Giants have scored six runs or more in six of their past nine games. The three pitchers that held them to three runs or less over that span were Mat Latos, Cory Luebke and Clayton Kershaw last night. Those are three top-tier pitchers. Now the Giants will face another stiff with Ryan Vogelsong on the hill for them. Prior to this season, how irrelevant was Ryan Vogelsong? Spending his last few years between Japan and the Phillies' minor league system, Vogelsong wasn't even included in the 2011 pitcher profiles. We all know what they say about teaching old dogs new tricks, but at the ripe old age of 33, Vogelsong seems to have found a way to keep batters off balance with his low-90s fastball, cutter, curve and changeup. He has a 2.68 ERA, a 1.26 WHIP and he’s been consistently good all season long. Play: San Francisco –104 (Risking 2.08 units to win 2).

Tampa Bay Rays vs. New York Yankees (GAME 2)
The Tampa Bay Rays will look to continue their unbelievable comeback to close out the regular season when they battle the New York Yankees in the second leg of their scheduled doubleheader on Wednesday night; first pitch from Yankee Stadium is scheduled for 7:05 ET on ESPN.
Manager Joe Maddon’s Rays were left for dead at the beginning of September facing nearly a double-digit deficit in the AL East standings. However, after rattling off 11 wins in their L/15 overall games played, the Rays now only trail the Boston Red Sox by two-games in the AL Wild Card race and the Yankees by seven-games within the division. Tampa Bay invades the Bronx fresh off taking two of three from the Red Sox at Fenway Park over the weekend. The Rays outslugged the BoSox and outscored them by an aggregate score of 24-14 in the four-game series. Tampa’s been a solid investment away from home winning 43 of their 77 games played to date (+$1113).
New York might be sitting in the catbird seat within the AL East, but manager Joe Girardi’s squad has been slumping of late managing wins in just five of their L/12 games played. The Yanks starting pitching staff is far from deep, and when the offense isn’t putting runs on the board in bunches, the team struggles. Over the course of these L/12 games played, New York has scored an average of just 3.75 RPG and been shut out twice! Sure, Mariano Rivera just broke the all time save mark once held by Trevor Hoffman, but things aren’t as rosey as they seem. New York’s 47-27 home record (+$306) is second to only the Texas Rangers for the best home tally in the AL.
Entering Tuesday night’s series opener, the Yankees have gotten the best of the Rays this season winning six of the 11 overall meetings; the ‘under’ is 7-4 in those contests. These division rivals will meet four more times after this game with both clubs closing out the regular season with three at “The Trop”. Tampa Bay’s won each of Jeremy Hellickson’s L/6 Game 3 starts, but has only come out on the right side of the scoreboard in two of his L/7 road starts. Tampa’s won the second game of a double-header only three times its L/11 tries, while NY has tallied an 8-3 mark in the second leg of its L/11 DHs.
              PICK: NYY/TB UNDER

I really like the St.Louis Cardinals in this game vs the NY Mets...I think the Cards have a significant edge on the hill in this game with J.Garcia...Garcia has been solid @ home all season and Mets starter is making just his third ML start, so far he us 0-2...the Cards are making a push at the Wild Card winning 11 of their last 13 games overall...I like the Cards run line
