    Free Play: NY Mets-129

The New York Mets are on the road to take on the Los Angeles Angels. Newly acquired Paul Blackburn is expected to start for the Mets. The Angels will go with Tyler Anderson on the mound. Blackburn is 4-2 with a 4.41 ERA, and a 1.16 WHIP, in nine starts this season. The Mets have been in or near the top in both pitching and offensive production. Anderson is 8-9 with a 2.96 ERA, and a 1.14 WHIP. The Angels have been poor all offensively and they will be without Mike trout for the rest of the season which just makes matters worse. As well as the offense the Angels’ pitching staff has been bad as well with Anderson being the only bright spot. New York is fighting to make the playoffs, while the Angels have no chance of making the postseason. The loss of Trout for the season adds more woes to an offense that is in the bottom 10 of most offensive categories. This is a perfect spot for the Mets to pick up a win as they try to improve on their playoff standing,

Friday MLB Free play. My selection is on Detroit -1.5 runs over Kansas City at 6:40 pm et on Friday.

Cole Ragans has had a fine season for the Royals but Tarik Skubal is on another level for the Tigers.

Ragans checks in having allowed 14 hits and seven earned runs over his last two starts, covering a span of 11 2/3 innings. He eclipsed his career-high in innings pitched long ago so perhaps that regression was to be expected.

Skubal owns a 2.59 FIP and 0.92 WHIP on the season - Cy Young Award type numbers. He has given up two earned runs or less in four straight starts.

The Royals hammered the Tigers in last night's series-opener. Look for Detroit to answer back on Friday. Take Detroit -1.5 runs

          Ricky's 1* play on Under 8 -103 Phillies/Mariners

Key Angle: It's important to remember that Ricky never makes a bet on any game based on just one angle. In order to make the grade, all his premium picks must meet several important criteria. He doesn't share all his secrets within his analysis, instead he chooses to reveal only the angle that he feels is the most significant. Here in this game the recent history of these two teams is particularly significant.

          - The Under is 14-5 in Seattle's last 19 games against an opponent in the National League.

          - The total has gone under in Tyler Phillips last 2 games.

          - The Under is 6-3 in Seattle's last 9 games against an opponent in the National League East Division.

Verdict: Runs should be hard to come by in this game.

            MLB:
            Cody Bellinger o1.5 Hits + Runs + RBI (-120)
Cody Bellinger returned to action on Tuesday after missing nearly three weeks. He homered in that game and has collected multiple hits in his three contests since returning. The left-handed slugger is 7-for-13 with two home runs, a double, five RBI, and five runs scored while batting cleanup in those three games. He was heating up before going on the IL as well. He started the season slower with a .226 average in April but picked that up to .290 in May and .279 in June. July was his best month thus far, albeit in only 10 games, with a .350 average and .884 OPS in 40 at-bats.

            Yankees team total o4.5 (-135)
Kevin Gausman takes the ball for the Blue Jays on the heels of largely steady starts in July, but his head-to-head clashes with New York’s power bats tell an ominous story. Juan Soto, Aaron Judge, and Giancarlo Stanton have combined to go 25-for-69 with eight home runs over the years against him, and he was chased from the game after 1 1/3 innings in his last visit to Yankee Stadium. Gausman also gave up seven earned runs in 4 1/3 innings of work against New York at Rogers Centre in late June, including a Judge dinger.

            Blue Jays/Yankees Over 9 (-105)
Marcus Stroman has hit the skids for the pinstripes, possessing an alarming 5.28 ERA in his last nine starts. Meanwhile, Kevin Gausman hasn't fared well against the Yankees big bats over the years, with Juan Soto, Aaron Judge, and Giancarlo Stanton all boasting an OPS of over 1.100 against the Jays right-hander. With both starters due to struggle and a weak Jays bullpen losing key arms at the trade deadline, expect a high-scoring affair at Yankee Stadium on Friday.

            CFL:
            Montreal -3.5 (-110)
The Alouettes are the reigning Grey Cup winners and they looked like the best team in the CFL until they lost QB Cody Fajardo to an injury in Wk 6. However, 25-year-old Davis Alexander looked like the real deal when he took over in the second half last week to complete 15-of-18 passes for 176 yards and two touchdowns in a comeback win against the Riders. With a terrific line protecting him and plenty of receiving weapons, Alexander should thrive in this offense. The Als defense is the best in the league and they should win and cover against a Ticats side coming off back-to-back wins against subpar foes after going 0-5 SU and ATS to start the season.
