6^th race [Joe Hirsch Turf Classic (G1), 1 ? mi TURF] – (4) War Like Goddess will try and win the Turf Classic for the third time in a row having beaten the boys in this race in 2023 and 2022. She gets back to her preferred distance of 1.5 miles at which she has a spectacular record of 10: 7-1-1 with more than half of her career earnings of $2.8 million. (6) Silver Knott won her first three starts of the year in three American Grade 2 races as part of the Appleby barn at Saratoga. Last time he was third in the Sword Dancer (G1). (5) Truly Quality is in the best form of his career with an allowance victory at Aqueduct in the Spring and a win in the Colonial Cup at the Virginia track with that name. (7) Far Bridge was a front-end winner of that Sword Dancer which was not typically his running style for one that usually is closing from off the pace.
7^th race [MOC 50000, 6F] – (6) Melle Mel (B) broke slowly and raced greenly in her debut at Saratoga in a race that was meant for the turf and was run on a sloppy and sealed track. (9) Linda’s Jewel was bet in both of her starts and returns to the dirt where she was third in her first race. (4) Carol Said No dropped into a maiden claimer for her second start, set the pace, and got beat by a nose. (10) Shadyside was fifth in her initial race at odds of 2-1 at Monmouth Park for a trainer that is off to a good start at this BAQ meeting.
8^th race [NY, Md Sp Wt, 6F TURF] – (13) Disco Star (A) rallied from ninth to second in her first start well clear of the rest at 7-1 and will be the top choice if she draws in. (1) Miss C Banker set the pace in her first two starts and just missed the maiden breaker by a neck at Saratoga. She was unable to get the lead last month and will need to do better. (11) Vehemente will move from dirt to turf for her third race. Irad Ortiz and blinkers go on. (7) Pawtucketshuffle was bet to 7-1 for her debut in July and also tries the turf for the first time. (3) Silsbee will debut for George Weaver as a $330,000 2-year-old purchase.
11^th race [Pilgrim (G2), 1 1/16 mi TURF] – (1) Noble Confessor (B) raced wide against an inside bias and now tries the turf. (4) Zulu Kingdom is undefeated in two starts with a maiden score in France in June and then in the Chad Brown barn she won the With Anticipation (G3) at Saratoga. (5) Concord Dream was an impressive debut winner for Shug McGaughey who does not usually win with first-time starters. (8) Early Adopter won her only start which was last month at the Spa at odds of 4-1 for Chad Brown when the jockey lost the crop.
Best bets: War Like Goddess (6^th); Melle Mel (7^th). Best value: Disco Star (8^th); Noble Confessor (11^th).

Lukas Classic Stakes – Grade 2 | Purse $500,000 | One Mile and One Eighth | Three Year Olds and Upward
Analysis and top contenders:
Cooke Creek (4) appears to be another very sharp claim by Mike Maker as the horse won two in a row since being claimed for $40K in May out of a strong win at a mile and one-sixteenth here at Churchill Downs. He won right back one month later at the second allowance condition, easily clearing by five lengths with a career-best 110 Equibase Speed Figure which is certainly good enough to win this grade two race if repeated. That win was also here at Churchill Downs at a mile and one-sixteenth, then he shipped to Saratoga and stretched out to this mile and one-eighth trip for a classified allowance race. He was winless in seven tries at nine furlongs prior to that, but in his first try at the trip for Maker he won easily. He has won on fast or sloppy and he has won on the lead and from just off the pace, but with none of the three horses inside in the gate having ever shown interest in leading early, it’s highly likely Saez will put Cooke Creek on the front end from the start from where he will get very courageous and not be caught.
Hit Show (6) won in May at Churchill Downs at this nine-furlong trip, at a similar allowance level to Cooke Creek when winning on August 15, earning a 103 Equibase Speed Figure which he bettered to 105 last month winning the Grade 3 West Virginia Governor’s Stakes. Gerox was up for both wins and rides back and the colt did win back-to-back (in December ’22 and February ’23) so has a shot to run another “A” race good enough to win.
Warrior Johny (8) gets Jose Ortiz for the first time, which is extremely interesting as Ortiz rode Cooke Creek to all three of his recent wins. This is likely because this horse comes from the powerful Bauer barn, which has won several stakes this year and for which Ortiz has been up for three among 10 starts. The horse’s last two races were really poor efforts, but three back he won a classified allowance race (the same level Cooke Creek won at in June) at this nine furlong trip, with a very strong 113 figure, and Bauer may have Warrior Johny back in that kind of form based on two exceptional workouts here at Churchill Downs (where he’s earned two of his four career wins). The first of those was on 9/7 and it was the BEST Of 131 for a half mile, and he followed that up seven days later with another big half-mile workout (47.2) which was third best of 105 on the day. If he returns to his July form, he could post the upset win.
Win Bets: I think we should bet two of these three to win, at the highest odds, and at these minimums:

The consensus in this one is that DEEDENUTO A is the one to beat. Good for a win wager just off the outstanding prior class figures. Have to like this nice horse. Many expert selectors will recognize the exemplary speed rating in the last affair. Stacks up against any horse in this field. Siegelman and Posner have a very good working relationship. Amazing results from their races. CINDERLANE SHARK - He's performing in good form, recording very strong TrackMaster speed figs. An excellent pick. A respectable play in here as he has one of the highest winning statistics in the field of starters as well as strong credentials all around. MOONWARDS HANOVER - Running strongly, achieved a bang-up speed rating in his most recent outing (74). A very nice win rate has been achieved by nice horses beginning from the 1 post.
