The betting public is getting rich on these Sunday and Monday night mismatches and it simply cannot last. This certainly looks like another one of those but there are more than a few red flags. First, the line opened at 8½ has been bet up all day yesterday and well into today. Secondly, the Ravens have won their past three games by 30, 17 and 15 points respectively, thus creating a higher line on an already inflated line. It’s not easy to pull the trigger on the Jagwires. After all, most of these losers are at least entertaining at what they do but the Jags just kind of bore their way into submissiveness. Jacksonville needs a map to the end zone and as a result, this total sits in a rarely seen 30’s these days. That indicates a low-scoring, conservative affair and one that can have the home dog hanging around just enough to stay within the liberal points being offered. Ravens are too high and they may just show up here in body only, as more important fish are on the horizon. Big caution flag to Raven backers. Play: Jacksonville +10 (Risking 2.1 units to win 2).

Baltimore -10 over JACKSONVILLE 10 Dimes

Big line for the visitors on this play, but just consider the implications... Blaine Gabbert vs. the hottest defense in football. As I pointed out in last weeks play on J'ville, Gabbert is capable of limiting mistakes, but he isn't ready to lead his team to victories. He is definitely not ready to match points with one of the top 5 teams in the game. As for the Ravens, I'm making this play mostly because of Ray Rice. Jacksonville has no answer for him; especially when he starts grabbing screen passes, neutralizing their feeble blitzing efforts. Ultimately, I think Baltimore is also more likely to benefit from a turnover or 2. Look for them to keep their top spot in the division against an overmatched foe. While this one could be a blowout, it will surely be a 2 TD game.

Runs will not come easy. While I have the Side as a premium tonight, I do not see a ton of runs here. St Louis scoreless last night and while that will not happen tonight, I do not see a ton of runs in this one as Wilson will be at home, Carpenter is solid and both bullpens pretty solid. Runs will be at a premium tonight in my opnion in another tightly contested game.

I have a STRONG opinion on the Side Play here, cashing in 10 out of my last 13 in the post season, but like the Under tonight in this CRUCIAL Game 5 for a free play.

My proprietary sports handicapping database and simulator shows a high probability that the Cardinals will win this game and take a commanding 3-games-to-two edge heading back to St. Louis. Carpenter is on the hill and he sports a near perfect 10-1 (+10.4 Units) against the money line when playing against a team with a winning record in the second half of the season this season; 13-2 (+11.9 Units) against the money line in October games since 1997. Cards are a solid 15-8 (+8.8 Units) against the money line as a road underdog of +100 to +125 this season. Since throwing out Ian Kindler in Game1, St. Louis catcher Molina, has all, but eliminated any base running threat by the Rangers. Moreover, the Cardinals are 6-2 after being shutout this season. One of those games occurred against Philadelphia when Cliff Lee shut them down 4-0 and the next game Carpenter took to the hill and the Cardinals defeated Philadelphia 12-2. Point is that they have been in this situation before and know they respond well after a shutout. Carpenter is in great form sporting a 2.25 ERA and a 0.900 Whip over his last three starts. CJ Wilson has not been in top form and sports a 6.06 ERA with a 1.897 WHIP in his last three starts. He has allowed 13 walks in these starts and you can bet the Cardinals team will be looking to work the count in their favor. I have noticed that both teams are looking to hit the ball opposite field, which is more apparent on the Cardinals team. Of course when they get a pitch middle in, like Pujols, for example, the ball gets hit hard. The majority of Texas starters are working low-and-away in the strike zone and truly the only way to be successful is go with the pitch and hit it opposite field. The cardinals, through hitting coach McGwire are doing a great job and I expect them to do it again tonight. Take the Cardinals.
