    Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

    Turf Paradise - Race #4
#6 Code of Valor Taking a small look at this early season spot for 2-year-olds, and I wonder if this filly might be ready enough at first asking. The team has at least landed a race at this short trip before.
#2 Run Your Mouth She seems well meant on paper and could be quick enough to compete at this short kind of trip. Top two lead the way for my interest on paper -- check them both out on the track.
#8 Tommy Norris He's another who seems to be heading into this well enough with a forward looking series of works. One of the ones.
Race Summary Code of Valor and Run Your Mouth have some appeal on paper, but I think the former may be the better price while overlooked a bit today.
    Turf Paradise - Race #7
#8 Princessprancealot She has been an honest type since getting over to the dirt, and she figures for a pretty good trip while tracking the pace from close range. Lots to like.
#2 Sing a Happy Song Speed is typically pretty gritty, but I think the top choice and the one next to her could apply just enough pressure to keep things honest. Obvious player with her good stuff.
#5 Lovely Lola Think she'll come along too late to pick up the whole thing, but she turns back for this one with a handful of those minor stakes tries on her page. On backup plays?
Race Summary Princessprancealot invades with some good Sunland form, and she draws well to watch everything unfold from up close. Would be happy to take a midrange single-digit price.
    Turf Paradise - Race #8
#8 Shirley Ann's Girl Fresh face might be enough to make some noise here, as there isn't a ton of inspiring form on the pace in this spot. Take a look.
#1 Dyin a Thirst She's capable of something better than she showed before heading to the bench, and she can play with these if she's able to get back to anything like the two- and three-back tries.
#3 Clubhouse Drama Not quite sure how she's going to stack up while stepping back into a tougher spot, but she has turned in a couple good tries in a row from close range and wouldn't be a total shock. Still think she's vulnerable late.
Race Summary Shirley Ann's Girl is a question mark first out, but I wouldn't be totally shocked to see her make an impact with these. Dyin a Thirst also has appeal from the fence.

      Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

      Gulfstream Park - Race #2
#1 CHILL BEAN (6-1) Troubled third twice, gets 10-pound apprentice, moves outside in.
#5 SHANCELICIOUS (5-2) In the hunt in all four starts, adds blinkers off the claim.
#7 NOT ONE LESS (5-1) Earned minor awards in last five starts on the all-weather track.
Race Summary CHILL BEAN encountered early trouble but managed a pair of thirds to launch her career at today’s distance. She out-dueled the favorite last out but couldn’t fend off the 3- and 4-wide rallies of the top pair. Bet to win and place.
      Gulfstream Park - Race #3
#3 BOLD LOOKER (Even) Looks to upgrade in-money finishes in second gapped-out start for this barn.
#5 BIRD WILDCAT (5-1) Could take some catching in his second try for good claim barn.
#6 LOOKIN AT ROSES (9-2) Late runner was no threat to ‘Looker’ on the class drop.
Race Summary In his last two one-mile starts on a fast dirt strip, BOLD LOOKER stalked a slow pace while 6-wide and ran second, then he followed the move of the winner and gained ground late to finish third. He returns in the same spot and should live up to favoritism in this field. Bet to win and place and play 3-5 and 3-6 exactas.
      Gulfstream Park - Race #4
#1 COOTER’S REVENGE (7-2 Switches to long sprint on the dirt to try and reward loyal backers.
#6 LADY PATRICK’S (10-1) Should get good pace set-up if she’s not part of it for 16-percent debut barn.
#4 LA TREMENDA (3-1) Stablemate of ‘Lady” battled through turn in improved start with blinkers.
Race Summary COOTER’S REVENGE, the beaten favorite for the second time off an 11-month layoff, tries her third surface in as many starts and stretches out to a long sprint. Thinking she can rate behind several speed rivals from the rail. Bet to win and place and play a 1-4-6 exacta box.

          Keeneland Hotlist - April 10

          Apr. 09, 2025

By Bob Ehalt and Matt Shifman

          Hot List Key:

A : A preferred horse to watch B: Secondary horse to watch
*C: Went down 2 or more betting notches in the final 3 minutes and finished 1st through 3rd
*D: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 4th or worse
          * - 4 or more betting notches if 11-1 or more.

1st race – (3) Ashkenazi is working out quickly for her debut and should prevail at first asking for Ward. (8) Baytown Dreamer should be a factor from the outside post. (7) Double Talker cannot be overlooked here. (1) Pupil may be a factor from the rail. Betting strategy: 3 to win, place. Exacta box: 1-3-7-8.

3rd race – (6) Beelieve Her comes off a nice win and can make it two straight. (1) Open Soul Autism will benefit from a rail trip. (3) Bourbon Breeze should respond to a return to dirt. (8) Carolina Candy has a second over the track and deserves attention. Betting strategy: 6 to win, place. Exacta box: 1-3-6-8.

5th race – (8) Wistucky could lead throughout here. (6) Golden Plate was second last time and should be the main rival. (11) Golden Ice fits in nicely here. (5) Always Above may pose a late threat. Betting strategy: 8 to win, place. Exacta box: 5-6-8-11.

7th race – (4) Save Time finds some class relief here after racing in a stakes. (5) Sudden Switch won her debut and seems like the one to fear. (6) Into Amore belongs in the exotics. (7) Crazy Cami has a nice late kick. Betting strategy: 4 to win, place. Exacta box: 4-5-6-7.

9th race – (4) Army Hero seems on edge for a maiden victory. (5) Cinister Cix should fare better on dirt. (12) Sequential is worth a look despite the layoff. (2) Spielman may perk up in a claimer . Betting strategy: 4 to win, place. Exacta box: 2-4-5-12.

              # 5 HARLAN'S BOND 2/1
              # 3 LA GROTTE 8/1
My choice for this event is ROMAN GODDESS. Rodriguez has this mare racing well and is a very strong pick based on the very good speed figs put up in route races recently. I like the jock on this mare - respectable chance to win the outing. With a very strong 76 Equibase speed fig last time out, will unquestionably be a factor in this contest. HARLAN'S BOND - This trainer has the strongest ROI in this group of horses in this race with entries running at this distance and surface. A solid 87 avg class rating may give this mare a distinct class edge versus this group of animals. LA GROTTE - Looks quite good to be up on the front end at the first call. Must be carefully examined - I like the numbers from the last contest.

Turf Paradise - Race #8 - Post: 4:20pm - Maiden Optional Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $21,000 Class Rating: 69

                  Rating:

                  #3 CLUBHOUSE DRAMA (ML=3/1)
                  #6 SWISS DANCER (ML=4/1)

CLUBHOUSE DRAMA - My friends and I have made cash playing ponies with this type of early speed. Follow my advice and do the same. I really like that last contest on March 12th at Turf Paradise where she finished second. Recent speed figures show dominant pattern of improvement. SWISS DANCER - This filly is in nice condition, having run a strong race on March 12th, finishing third. This filly should be in fine condition, this far into her form cycle.

                  Vulnerable Contenders: #7 ROYAL INTEGRITY (ML=5/1), #8 SHIRLEY ANN'S GIRL (ML=6/1), #5 ABOVE ALL ELSE (ML=6/1),

ROYAL INTEGRITY - She showed not much at all in the last affair. SHIRLEY ANN'S GIRL - If she goes off at the morning line of 6/1, I'll have to pass. ABOVE ALL ELSE - Doubtful for this thoroughbred to make an impact with no recent good showings in a sprint event. I'd like to see more preferred recent outings with morning line odds of 6/1.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Have to go with #3 CLUBHOUSE DRAMA on the win end if we get at least 5/2 odds
                  EXACTA WAGERS: Box [3,6]

                      # 4 ARMY HERO 4/1
I've got to go with SILVER ORE and the potential return justifies the dangerous nature of the long odds. Could best this field based on the speed figure - 89 - of his last effort. Should best this group here, showing respectable figures of late. I like Machado on this colt to give him a formidable chance to hit the wire first. FORTY LOVE - Has run admirably when racing a dirt sprint race. ARMY HERO - Might best this group of animals here, showing very strong numbers of late. Could best this group based on the Equibase Speed Figure - 84 - of his last race.

                        #5 LOU (ML=3/1)

STEEL VENGEANCE - Be loyal to this racer. Coming off the pace, I think he'll be in a great spot to demolish them in the stretch. LOU - I like to play this handicapping theory, a thoroughbred coming back off a sharp race within the last 30 days. Earnings per race entered is something that I feel can be a crucial handicapping aspect. This entrant is ranked at the top in this bunch.

                        Vulnerable Contenders: #1A I'M SOLO N IN LOVE (ML=8/5), #1 JERRY'S OUT (ML=8/5), #7 JUST LICORICE (ML=5/1),

I'M SOLO N IN LOVE - Not probable that this equine will finish better than he did last time when ending up fifth. JERRY'S OUT - Most likely won't make much of a mark in today's event. JUST LICORICE - Finished third in his most recent race with a pedestrian rating. When I look at today's Equibase class figure, it would take an improved performance to triumph after that in this field.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Play #2 STEEL VENGEANCE to win if you can get odds of 8/5 or more

We've got an instinct PONDA JEWEL is going to get the win. This standardbred may have some hidden form, a triumph would be a pleasant surprise. Could surprise us at a good price. Don't leave out. She has been squaring off competently and the TrackMaster SRs are among the best in the race. INTELLECTUAL - She's going to post in fine form, recording sharp TrackMaster SRs. An excellent choice. Seems to have a very nice class advantage based on the competition she has raced against. BOUQUETS FOR ALL - Hands down the best hole at Hoosier Park is the 5. The win pct is very good.

Formidable driver-trainer, winning 21 percent of the time. Seems to be a terrific wager. SNAPPY CHIP - The consortium knows that speed is King in harness racing. This race horse will unlock our way to a nice victory. A good class horse cannot be passed over. With an average class stat of 77 all signs look good for this one. KASEY JOHN A - Not many knocks against this standardbred, let's give him a shot.
