Bush left office with an approval rating around 20%. Obama was able to coast to election in 2008 mostly by virtue of not being in the same party as Bush. There's a reason you didn't see Bush try and campaign on behalf of McCain in 2008 or Romney in 2012. Everyone knows he's complete poison.

I agree. He sounds much better prepared. Romney has definitely shifted his talking points to the center though, which is interesting. I wonder how that will play with his base.

I actually thought Bush was kind of cool, with his fuck you attitude.

The Patriot Act is gay, though.

Tried to get Romney at plus 320 about 20 minutes ago and the line shifted. now its plus 260...

I thought Obama was supposed to destroy Romney in the debates. And SPX Bush would get routed by just about anyone if he ran again.

Sounds like it might be a good time to play Obama then. The debates don't make that big a difference. Political junkies (the people who bet on politicians) pay a lot more attention to these things than the public does.

Obama may end up back around -200 soon. And I think debates play an important role. Most of the public probably hears the candidates point of view on many topics rather than having to to do research.

I thought romney did a better job in the debate. I only watched the beginning and the end though. Obama seemed like he didn't really have many good answers for the economy. What can he really say though, its in the shitter and he doesn't seem to have any new ideas.

I think that's Obama's deal. He gives vague answers and promises about "hope" and "change" but that's about it, at least that's my impression. If he does make a firm promise or plan of action, he doesn't actually follow through on it (i.e. Guantanamo).

Personally, I think that if you really want to be a good American, vote for a third party. I'd suggest voting libertarian, but even if you vote some crazy shit like communist it helps to push us away from the current de facto two party system.

yeah, the two party system is really pretty damn stupid. It is basically a fundraising system.

Obama doesn't bother me, I am actually starting to support gov't healthcare.

The plurality voting method we have essentially forces a two party system, since third party candidates have the effect of drawing votes away from one of the major parties, like the Nader situation in 2000.

yeah, but only because of the 2 party system... if there were no "major" parties, it wouldn't be an issue.

The voting method essentially causes the pool of political candidates to condense into two parties. A two party system is the only "stable solution" to the setup created by our electoral system.

If we only had one major party, it would split in two fairly quickly. If we had four, some would have to merge to survive.

I'd be in favor of getting rid of parties all together. Let every individual run on their own platform. No "conservatives" or "liberals." No more boxes.

Just let guys say "this is what I stand for" and talk about their shit. Then vote for who you like the best.
