My family is actually a bunch of NY Jews... my mother was adopted, and we really didn't know we were "Jewish" until later in life. My mother reads all the Jewish news and is something of a neurotic, but I did not inherit that quality. So i just think his movies and the things that motivate his characters to be weird and not relateable-- and therefore not funny.2012: +19.33

Anyone ever spent a significant amount of time in Charlotte, NC?
I have a job offer there. I am very seriously considering taking it.
Advise me. More money, but more responsibility and more time. Currently, I work for another attorney, get paid a pretty fair salary and also maintain my own practice part time. I pretty much make my own schedule, come and go as needed, and no one bothers me. I can work or not work, no one asks questions as long as the work gets done. I am completely autonomous. BUT, I have to keep my practice going to get what I consider an acceptable income. Also, it is a small office, I am going to be asked to buy the practice in a few years which could be good or bad. It is a pretty cushy set-up, but I am the bitch of another attorney. I used to have my own bitches, so it does sort of burn my ego a little.
The new job, I would be an executive, head of one of the practice areas of a larger firm. It is 25% more money and a better city. BUT, I am expected to account for my time- no more leaving at 3pm or slipping out for lunchtime BJJ 2x per week. The hours still aren't bad (only about 45) and the work really won't be that much more, it is just that it is more corporate, so they will probably get pissed if I just bail out at lunchtime all the time, like I do now.
So... should or should not? I am actually really torn here.2012: +19.33

It is about 25% increase, pretty significant. But I will lose my side income from my practice... so it only works out to a slight increase in pay, but I will only have to worry about one thing, which will be nice too.2012: +19.33

yeah, it really is. I have always been pretty independent and I really don't like having someone watching/judging me. It is all relative though, it is not like anyone would be watching my work or how I run my department, it is more just that I would actually have to track my days off and when I leave early, I would have to note it and keep track- not that I couldn't do it. Still, I prefer the laid back dowhatiwannado approach of my current life.2012: +19.33
