I wasn't aware of that. I wonder why he retired. He still has a lot of years in him, in my opinion.

Also, BOL at this line from his Wikipedia page: "He is notable for being the only man to defeat the current UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones."

imo, he would have done better if he listened to his corner during that fight.

Granted it has looked really really good against those guys. The diabate win was very good as well. On the other hand, Diabate is 38, Vlady is 40 or so, Hamil retired right after the fight was over( he didn't look like he was mentally in the fight at all)
Matyushenko may be old but he's still a game opponent for almost anyone coming up through the ranks. He's a very well rounded and savvy veteran of the sport who still has power(Jason Brilz) behind his punches. Silva hasn't exactly been fighting the cream of the crop either except for Rashad and Machida. His resume reads better than Gustafssons does for sure but I'm having trouble ignoring the fact that Alex represents a terrible style matchup. He's hard to take down and has striking power as well as an ability to control distance and work from the outside being so tall.

Yeah thats a good point about his takedown D. It is pretty good, but it isn't great. I would call it pretty solid. I just wouldn't be suprised to see Thiago take him down. That said, now that I think about it Gustaffsons boxing style is probably going to be tough for Thiago to beat. He seems like a real power puncher on the feet, I think he would have trouble catching Gustaffson who is fast and rangy like you said. He has the technical skill advantage on the feet as well. I just don't think its a good idea to bet against a guy that can drop him with one punch and was able to wrestlefuck Brandon Vera for 3 solid rounds.

Kruth is a very accomplished kickboxer but he only has 5 mma fights. Diabate has way more MMA experience. I think the reason Kruth is favored is because he is the better kickboxer. Other than that what can it be? Diabete hasn't been doing as well but he is in the ufc. Kruth only has 5 fights. They are both older BTW. 37-38 years old.

Abedi-Head: Heads standup is nothing special I would think Abedi's big and blackness should help him win there. Grappling: Head is a very good lower belt BJJ guy. I think he won some titles in BJJ at the purple belt level IIRC. Abedi has a strong Judo background. He might be able to stock the takedown and force a standup fight.

I think Paulo Thiao - Siyar fight might be pretty close. I don't know much about Siyar. He grew up in Afghanistan and has a good record. As to his opponents skill level. I do not know.

Apparently Dennis Siver opened at +170 against Diego Nunes. Anyone think that is way off?

that is a tough call. Diego is good. Siver is good at sprawl and brawl. Diego is good at overwhelming is opponents with tenacity. It will be interesting to see who can pull it off. I guess I feel that Siver is better at dog odds.

I think the fight is a toss up, but I would've definitely jumped on Siver at +170.

Jorgen Kruth Injured, Tom DeBlass Makes UFC Debut Against Cyrille Diabate In Sweden
Diabate has been training for Kruth...a kickboxer. Now he gets a grappler. From BE:

DeBlass is well known in the grappling world and on the New Jersey regional MMA circuit, holding a black belt in BJJ under Ricardo Almeida, and captaining Almeida's competitive grappling team. BloodyElbow.com readers may be familiar with DeBlass after he was ranked as the #3 light heavyweight on our 2012 World MMA Scouting Report. DeBlass's excellent grappling credentials include a gold medal at the 2009 East Coast ADCC North American Trials, and a bronze at the 2009 no-gi BJJ Worlds. In the MMA world, DeBlass has gone undefeated in seven fights, all for the Ring of Combat promotion in New Jersey, and he has added a solid striking game to his top-notch BJJ and wrestling, and even on very short notice, he should present a tough challenge for Diabate, who had been training for a fellow kickboxer, not a grappling specialist.
