Well I definitely feel that he has improved and DOES have newfound abilities. He's not the same fighter who lost to Ishida or to Thomson the first time around.
Also, he destroyed Aoki, and I'm pretty sure Aoki was like top 3 or something at the time.
Masvidal is also a very good win (though there are rumors that Masvidal's hand was broken going into that fight, so if that's true, I really want to see a rematch).
In my opinion, he has done more than enough against very good fighters for anyone to have good reason to believe that he was going to walk right through Thomson. If nothing else, there's always MMAth. Melendez>Kawajiri>Thomson.
