I almost always avoid lines like that even if just on principle. Maybe I'd take Silva again at -700 if he was rematching James Irvin. But Bonnar is a tough, scrappy dude who has never been knocked out or subbed. (His two TKO losses are via cut.)
-500 should be about the highest line we ever see in MMA.I heart cockComment

Unless it's a total squash match--which I don't consider Silva/Bonnar to be--then there are just too many variables for the line to get above -500. I mean, that line is fucking HIGH. I have to think pretty damn hard before I bet a line that high because we all know how huge upsets DO happen in this sport and how one punch can change everything.
-875 is just some crazy shit. What's even the point of risking $875 to win $100? Just doesn't seem worth it to be unless you have a HUGE bankroll. Because one day that shit's going to catch up to you. I mean, you can win 8 of those in a row and then lose one and you're in the hole.I heart cockComment

Yeah, going that big on a straight bet is silly, I have become a fan or 2 fight parlays though. You can do something like Anderson Silva/Phil Davis which comes out to -286. Want to lower that? Throw in "Not Dave Herman by Sub", "Not Rick Story by Sub" when they come out which might bring it to -200 or close to it.Comment

I will point out though that I'm not saying I would never bet a huge line. But it would have to be a SERIOUS mismatch. Bonnar/Silva is a mismatch, but it's still a fight between two very competent guys who are good enough to fight amongst the best in the world.
Give me Jones at -875 over Seth Petruzelli and I might take it.I heart cockComment
