? Why would I be mad? I don't care if other people like stupid movies. I haven't seen it obviously so I can't say, just from the trailer, it looks like I have already seen it about 1000 times.

Naw, it was pretty entertaining actually. Sure there are movies like this one already but this one was way more entertaining. The main character gave me a stiffy throughout the movie.

I read something about it earlier actually, and the consensus is that it follows the typical horror movie template but has a few fresh things. I just don't like horror movies, but I guess if you know what you are getting and like it, people like the movie. It is probably like going to watch a rom-com. They are all pretty bad generally, some are a little better, and therefore they get a "fresh" rating based on being slightly less shitty movies than all the other rom-coms. That is more or less how I see horror movies too. If you can manage to make a slightly less shitty horror flick, people rave about it.

I'll at least say that I'm a lot more open to Ben Affleck in general than I used to be. I used to dislike him intensely, but then he started directing and proved to be a serious talent behind the camera, and I think his acting has gotten a lot better as he has matured as well. Both The Town and Argo were great.

So I don't feel the rage I would have 10 years about the Batman announcement. But I just can't see it working.

Neither, actually. I had another, older video camera with a microphone and I recorded all the audio with THAT camera. Then I transferred the audio from the tape and imported it into my video editor to put on top of the video I captured with the Canon. The audio was recorded at his office during a standard interview, so it was unscripted.

In any case, recording the audio ANY WAY other than the built-in mic on the camera is pretty much essential unless you're just shooting a home movie.

The horror genre is my least favorite of all the main genres, but I can occasionally watch and appreciate a horror film. Mostly I lean toward supernatural horror, not slasher shit or humans torturing other humans. The Conjuring was pretty good, I thought. And a couple of years ago I watched Let the Right One In, which was fucking awesome.

As for Rom-Coms, they are pretty hit and miss, but there are a few that I think are legitimately good movies, like How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and When Harry Met Sally.

Thanks. I have been looking into getting a camera mounted shotgun mic, but from what I am reading all the decent ones are a couple hundred bucks. So I decided to try to record the narration on my laptop first to see what's what. I have a logitech headset, that actually sounds pretty good. I was just wondering if I should invest in a shotgun mic for the camera AND another mic for recording narration on my laptop. I am definitely going to use the headset at a minimum and will probably pick up the shotgun mic later to record people talking to the camera. But I guess I wondered if I could get the same quality off the external mic to teh camera as I can off the mic to the pc

There are a few horror movies that I like, and like you, I like the supernatural horror movies more than torture movies. But there are just SO many horror films, it is a bankable genre for teh pre teen and teenager crowd, like poopoo. You don't need a bankable actor, just put some torture porn on and watch the teeny-boppers show up.

I agree with you on When Harry met Sally, but I veto How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. The latter is shit. There are some that I like, but like horror movies, even if they are shit, chicks will drag their boyfriends to watch them and there are thousands of those things.

If you're going to be recording any audio on location, I would definitely recommend picking up the shotgun mic. If it's a good quality microphone (yes, it should run you a couple of hundred dollars unless you get a great deal on a used one) it should make a big difference.

Bear in mind that you may need an adapter, though. A lot of shotgun mics will use a full-sized XLR connector and you'll need an adapter for it to fit the mic port on the Canon. The good news though is that I don't see why you couldn't use the same mic to connect to your computer for recording narration (although your headset might work fine as well).

The thing about horror movies is that they can be made for cheap and then make several times their budget at the box office. I mean, two of the most successful films of all time in regard to budget-to-earnings ratio are The Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity.

Blair Witch: Budget $60,000, Worldwide Gross $248 million
Parnormal Activity: Budget $15,000 Worldwide Gross $193 million

There aren't really any examples like that that you can point to in any other genre. It's amazing.

^^ thanks. I didn't think about using the camera mic to record to the computer for some reason. I am going to record some shit on the headset tonight and see what it sounds like... I don't need any sound on location for what I am doing right now but I will definitely need it for the next thing. If it doesn't sound good, I guess I will blow the $200 on the rode mic I have been looking at: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...G&Q=&A=details

The other thing I considered was getting a little Samson mic like this one: http://www.samsontech.com/samson/pro...ophones/gomic/ to improve upon the headset, though I am not convinced it will actually sound better than the headset mic.

                            Thanks for your help.

But I guess that if I buy the Rode, I really won't have any use for that one. Thanks.

Yeah that's what I meant. You can make a horror flick on no budget and it is guaranteed to attract the horror groupies, no matter how shitty it is. They almost never lose money.

That Rode mic looks pretty good, but I've never seen anything like that Samson. I'd make sure to read some reviews before making a decision. Glad to see you're getting some use out of the camera.

Speaking of cameras, I got a new credit card the other day with a $2500 limit and it's all I can do to keep myself from buying another one. But I must be smart right now during this time of economic peril.
