Its not really dead. Just because an aldo ppv doesnt do 500k buys it doesnt mean mma is dead. It is because there are so many ufc's per month now. Plus all the free ones. There are the fx fights and the fox fights. Throw in bellator on spike and world series of fighting. Also take into consideration the ufc is making 90 million per year from fox. Dana and the fertittas are doing well.

MMA is not dead. And for the record, neither is boxing. Both are highly successful sports.

But I do think that both sports are relegated to the hardcore fans. With both MMA AND boxing, the only events that do huge numbers are events that feature the top 3 or 4 names. But those truly dedicated fans--the hardcores--are fueling it from one event to the next. Luckily, there's a pretty big base of serious fans. If there wasn't, Fox wouldn't make the UFC a staple of its programming.

I'm still not even sure casual fans know who Pettis and Aldo are yet. My brother is a casual and always watches Silva, GSP, Sonnen, and any HW main event.....that's it. I'm almost sure he couldnt tell me who Also or Pettis is.....and I'm 100% sure he has no idea who Mighty Mouse is

Yep. Sure, Pettis vs Aldo is interesting. But a superfight? Pettis JUST won title. Let him defend it a few times. Superfights are fights between two dominant champs in my opinion. Pettis has potential to be one, but has he yet? No. Fuck, I think Guida should move up to LW and get the title shot.

Also, I know Luke makes fun of me always being at Buffalo Wild Wings for fights, but that place is a PERFECT indicator of who the draws really are. Anderson Silva and GSP...can't get a seat if you don't get there 2 hours ahead of time. Jon Jones...MAYBE it will be busy. Brock Lesnar...packed as hell.

Ben Henderson vs Anthony Pettis? I got there right when the main card started since I had to work. Seats open everywhere.

Frankie Edgar vs Jose Aldo? Jose Aldo vs KZ? Shit, for Aldo vs KZ I could hear the damn commentary that's how dead that place was.
