What does everyone think about Alves 171.5?15 pounds in 2 days was alot I guess Did he just say fuck it I'm not going to make it like the Hughes fight or is he completely drained going into this fihgt

As for Alves I was hoping the betting line would reflect him not making weight but it doesn't seem to have moved. I don't really think it's too relevant either.

It's a good question. As zY mentioned hours ago, it could just be that he was working off a different scale. It could also mean he had a hard weight cut and he's pushed himself hard already and is going to have to go a little farther to make weight.

In any case, I don't think he'll not make weight Hughes Fight-style because of half a pound. The overall effect is certainly something to consider, though I've also thought about how few fighters really seem phased even during seemingly "hard" cuts. There's Irvin and a few others, but they seem to be the exceptions to the rule.

Yeah I remember when Anthony Johnson had to practically be carried to the scale at UFC 104 and he still missed weight by like 700 pounds. But then he came out the next night and absolutely laid waste to Yoshida like a Hiroshima victim.

Exactly.

It's a something to consider, but I'd never make any big decisions on a weight cut. So often it just ends up being a non-factor.

The Jon Jones Nutwagon is so out of control.

Shogun would sweep him and savagely stomp a mudhole in that black head of his. Machida would beat him too and probably never get taken down. Even if he did he would break his 9 foot monkey arm in half the way he posts that shit up. Plenty of HWs would beat him down.

And yeah I think Davis has as much potential as Jones.
