Randy still has a nasty clinch game even if his chin and takedowns aren't what they used to be(not like the takedowns would have to be olympic grade to be effective on a guy coming from only boxing until this past christmas).

I looked at Pierce... I think Amilcar is live. He is a Nova Unaio guy (Aldo, Marlon Sandro, Leites, Shaolin). Supposedly, he is a really dynamic striker and has a solid judo base. But those NU guys all have old school bjj skills, they know how to avoid damage and they are all hell on wheels off their backs. NU is a really good bjj academy.

I got a guy on my blog swearing that Alves is going to burst on to the scene. Pierce has 1 path to victory, top control special. Alves has a a lot of ways to win, but has never faced competition like Pierce. I want to see Alves fight someone good before I buy in. But I am tempted by his line. If his judo is as good as I am hearing, he might be the one doing the takedowns, but I doubt it.

I am always leery of betting on guys who haven't had any experience in the big show. We see guys with undefeated records in lesser orgs come into the UFC and get beat. Often times these guys have very good credentials. Salter, Miranda, and Branch were all undefeated when they got beat by Gerald Harris. Volkmann was undefeated when he got beat by Thiago. Etc. . .

Pierce performed pretty impressively against Fitch, so I'd be hesitant. Still, at more than 2:1 Alves might be worth a small play. Who knows, he could be the next Hathaway.

Anyone else have that feeling about Couture/Toney in your gut, like we did when Sylvia fought Pudzilla? This fight just looks too good to be true the more I think about it, but usually in gambling (for me anyway) when its too good to be true, it usually is.

I do. I've just seen too much shit happen in the past to where I can just see Couture getting Mercer'd. On paper, it does seem like easy money. Toney has KOs in his record, but other than his last fight the last time he KOd someone was in 2003.

BTW, I like how Toney's Wikipedia entry describes him as an "aspiring mixed martial artist."
