I just don't get how a grown ass man can sit and play a video game for hours and hours day after day. I know several guys that spend like 40 hours per week on WOW. The game is going to be gone someday, and all that time... just gone. We all waste time, but that is a massive time suck.

I do an average ov about 10 chess games on MSN per week. That is about it for video games.

I've found that my passion for the shit's pretty much gone, but the right game could probably suck me in for a little bit. It would have to be a badass game, though.

Truth be told, I miss being passionate about video games. It used to be something I was really into and now I just don't give a fuck. I kind of feel like I lost a friend.

Anime is kind of the same way. I used to be a fairly big anime fan and now I'm just not motivated to keep up with the shit anymore.

My friend beat it. I've gotten to the last guy and haven't been able to get past him.

See I don't get that at all... I mean, it is not like it is productive or has any value at all... I look at it as just neutral time wasting addiction. Not that everything has to be productive... but I don't find video games to be fun at all. I don't like pretending to do shit. I like to actually do shit.

So missing it would be like saying, man, I really miss the days when I used to look at porn for hours every day.

Just seems like a bizarre statement. I would be glad it was gone. I used ot play a lot of poker (as I have mentioned before). Since I never did make much money at it, I am just glad it is gone. I wasted a lot of time on it... I wish I never found it.

When I was like 12 I got addicted to Zelda, Ninja Gaiden and a few others. But my all time fave was Rygar.

I probably do a lot of things that you could argue is not productive, if that's your criteria. I watch a ton of movies and am a big film fan, and unless it's a documentary (which I watch a lot of), you can't say watching a movie is any more productive than playing a video game. Same thing goes for reading fiction books.

I would also address your point regarding "I don't like pretending to do shit. I like to actually do shit." I think most people like a degree of escapism, which is why movies and books are such big business. You say you like to actually do shit, but it's not like you can just go and be a special forces superspy in real life. You can do it variously, though, by playing Metal Gear.

But I do hear what you're saying. The last few times I tried to get into a game, I just thought about all the other shit I could be doing.

Another problem for me is that I actually think games have just gotten too complicated. I think part of the problem for me is that I don't want to deal with the learning curve. Not too long ago I downloaded a game from Yahoo based on Agatha Christie's "Death on the Nile." It was a seek-and-find game. So all you did throughout the whole game was move from room to room, finding shit hidden in the room that was on a list. It was very simple, easy to pick up, and I was kind of addicted to it for a few days.

So apparently I can still get into shit like that, but Halo holds no allure.

^^ I said that not everything has to be productive. As I waste a fair amount of time myself. I am wasting time right now. But it has to at least be fun if it is not productive. I don't find video games to be fun at all. Someone else might. I am not judging, I am just saying, I don't get it.

As far as actually doing stuff as opposed to pretending, I agree with what you say. I was talking more about the guys that spend multiple hours every day "escaping." The difference between things like WOW and a movie are that in that world, people all are delusional together, so they start thinking there is some value to it. I actuall hear people bragging all the time about what the did on WOW last night.

I actually watched a really good documentary on the effects of MMORPGs on people's lives. It was called Second Skin. Last I checked, it was available for streaming on Netflix. I recommend it.
